Hey Dainott, I have a question....I'm embarking on a project to swap out my 1.6MPI in my Octy MKII to a BWA 2.0TFSI motor from the VRS....what I want to know is if would I have to keeps copies of my coding for all ancillaries such as the dual rear fogs, auto locking etc or is there some other module that keeps the coding and just interacts with the engine ECU?

Hey mate sorry for the late reply ive only just seen this post.

To be honest i cant answer your question in regards to the coding side of things. I have a bit of knowledge in regards to VCDS, but nowhere near an expert (although im sure there will be a few on the forum), but sure the codes your talking about will be stored on the ecu and not on a separate module. Is there maxidot on your car now or the donor as quite a few functions can be setup and controlled through it? Tbh though it wouldn't be difficult to re introduce these once you have completed the swap via VCDS.

Get yourself a build thread like i did mate and any little niggly issues u can post on there as people keep up to date with progress they will answer.

Anytime u need a hand with something gimme a shout and if i can help i will. One thing i would look into first is last is to if your planning on modding the car in future then plan out what will be much easier to do while your doing the swap eg fueling on the FSI needs to be upgraded for bigger power so as your gonna have to do it anyway, just do it once.

I did ARB's and suspension while rebuilding and so thankful now. Only regret it not having the cash (or able to find a good deal) on the S3 intercooler while rebuilding the front.

Good luck fella

Been enjoying getting used to the car but been a slight knocking coming from the front end so trying to get that sorted. I had fitted diesel front rear wishbone bushes a few weeks ago to see if they would be an improvement over the standard petrol ones as had a bit more rubber in them without going all the way to the solid TT ones. I suspected that they might be the cause of the knocking issue as were used so yesterday i decided to get them pressed out and fit the TT ones.

The result is noticeably different (in a good way) over both the standard petrol and diesel bushes and the car feels much more planted on the road. Very good little easy mod if your not looking to go all the way for the WALK kit.

Unfortunately it didnt resolve the knocking so the search goes on and thinking it could be the shock absorber as knock is only there over bumps in the road at speed rather than slowly over speed bumps etc. (its when the wheel leaves the road quickly). Il pull the wheel off tomoz and have a good check that everything it nice and tight and see what i come across.

Also go to pull my finger out and get the sideskirts fitted aswell as heading up to the meet at Castle Combe on the 28th of this month for a look at a few of the cars on this forum and the 30 cars that are going on the track from here.

Anyone else going up with their octy as be good to catch up with a few of you and your cars?!

Sounds good. You got a part number/price for the TT bushes?

What great read - I wish I was a millionth as handy around cars. If that was a TV programme it would be a keeper on the Sky box!

If you do have a part number for those bushes that would be great as I think I'll be getting mine changed fairly soon too.

As for the knocking, check the drop links, that was the cause of mine.

Not sure if it helps buy my TT bushes had the following part numbers

8J0 407 183 G on the rubber

or

8J0 407 151 D on the alu case (which I believe you buy and the rubbers are pressed in when bought)

I can't comment on price as I bought them off a member on the ukmiv forum

Have a read here lads about the TT bushes.

http://www.briskoda....-bushes-fitted/

I asked a mate in Audi if you can buy the bushes seperate (not in the housing) and he couldnt find them anywhere and part number on the bush didnt show up in the system (very strange i know but mine says 8J0 407 183 DE on the rubber) so looks like they have changed the part number a few times which always helps lol!

I had mine off the mk5 forum for about £40 if i remember correctly. I had also managed to get a spare one (already pressed out) so if you do manage to find a single TT bush then let me know and can have my spare for £12 (what i paid for it). First come first served. I also have the contact (user name, name and phone) for the guy on the golf forum i bought off so anyone wants it then gimme a PM as dont think i can list it on here?

Dont forget thought that you cant swap the aluminium housing over complete as different so factor in £20 to get them pressed in by a local driveshaft firm (2 minute job and the TT bushes have a metal housing so are strong). As for fitting its an easy enough hour job. Jack the car up and 3 bolts each mounting (18mm and 2 x 16mm), then get some washing up liquid and chuck loads it on the bush and then work it off the wishbone (a mate with a crowbar sat by the wheel arch is a great help here, as can leaver the wishbone down for access). Then off to get the bushes pressed out and TT ones in and reverse the process. I used a nylon mallet when refitting as the TT ones a bit tighter, but little wood block and hammer will be fine.

Catzi, cheers for the kind words fella. Most of my knowledge is self taught and surprising how quickly u pick things up as long as your interested. Im just lucky to have access to 2 good garages to learn. Got a barn find 68' MG Midget off the missus grandfather to get to know soon and will be a k series going in there, so something to properly learn on :).

cheezemonkhai, i had heard that i could be droplinks and so will give them a check. Ive been on nights so planned on having another look yesterday, but woke up late so couldn't. Did yours sound like my description of the noise fella? I know aint the easiest to describe :(.

I had a knocking on mine, replaced the droplinks, the oem replacement ones are beefier, and I replaced the anti-roll bar bushes with some poly ones, like a new car after

Just thought as i hadnt chucked anything in this thread for a while, i would put an update on the car.

Not a great deal has happened over the last few months with the car, just enjoying driving it really.

Its remapped to stage 2 with shark and love the smooth extra performance, which is a huge difference over standard to say the least. Ive got a decat to fit, but decided to get a 100 or 200 cell race cat welded in before fitting so dont have to swap come MOT time. Just aint had time to sort it yet but will get it done soon as craving the extra horses now ive got used to the remap :). Still makes me laugh when the TT boys think its standard and probably a 170TDI and then watch their face change as they cant catch it lol. Never fails to make me smile :).

Still got an issue at the mo with the MAF which doesnt really affect performance much, but slowly burns the MAF out (been through one so far) and then car runs like a pig. Im sure its wiring related and need to get it sorted, but got lazy and keep putting it off!

Have got all the interior sorted and cleaned :) and finally managed to get the leather armrest which was missing (police removed it) for a decent price this week so fit it in the next day or so (famous last words lol).

As for the roof i just dont know if i will actually fit the gloss black vinyl or just leave it as it is. Happy with the look right now. The side skirts are in the old mans garage and need to get them fitted (note to self - sort your head out Dai and fit the bloody things!).

3.28 am? Can't sleep then Dai?

:)

Car sounds awesome - and just about finished (!) Great project, you must be very satisfied with your handiwork.

Nice one! Best of luck and let me know how you get on. Still not swapped mine over :)

Have you coded the sills Dai ? I could have met up with you, in your region in August, met stever750 ,get the roof done  In penault

How much of it was missing, just the top arm rest bit or the whole centre section? What had they put there instead?

I'm thinking it could have been to fit the control box for lights and siren, but could be wrong.

I would have thought they'd taken the top off and dropped it into the jumbo box but I'm sure Dai will confirm.

Haha 03:28 I've just come off my weekend of nights fella so for the last 4 days that time has been lunch time lol.

Yea sills are the same colour as the car and really want to get them fitted, but wanna make sure they are on right so will drill the sills and fit the holding strips so the skirts will be properly secure. Bit of a daunting prospect though lol.ps yea would have definitely met for a chat and a look if I known you were about the area.

In regards to the arm rest, they had removed it and the rear section of the jumbo box to run a tube to the dog cage to give it aircon. They had just put a couple of screws through the rear vent surround to hold it together as the arm rest basically is what everything bolts to with the jumbo box. I've ended up getting a rear drinks holder instead of the little cubby hole. ps no worries Wardy and know how hard it is to get time to do jobs these days. I'll let u know once I have it fitted if there is anything to be aware of when doing it but seems straight forward and have taken it apart once already, as I have with just about everything on the car lol.

Ps sorry can't quote I'm on the phone and far to much hassle trying to multiquote.

Well car still aint perfect but just been so busy recently just havent had the time to sort out the little niggles. Im used to the stage 2 power (Cheers Ben Shark) now, but everyone is still shocked when they get in the car at how quick it is :).

Ive just managed to get my hands on an S3 intercooler and gonna be fitting it soon enough and just been doing a little digging on fitting. I have found that the existing hoses can be used as long as you cut the metal connector off the drivers side hose (dont cut the hose you cut the metal with a dremmel or hacksaw and then the second inner metal part will pull out leaving you to just use a jubilee clip to connect), but wondering if there any instructions at hand for replacing without removing the front slam panel? Cheers for any help

  • Author

Just thought i would add these updates here for reference and to see ifanyone has anymore input as the original thread is in the tuning area of the forum.

my tech just removed the front panel, as it was too hard to get it in/out leaving it in, we used the hoses that came with the intercooler, they were very tight, but went on eventually, Im not sure if they were S3 or regular hoses though. BTW, you wont need another map to go with it, your ECU will adjust accordingly.

Ok mate cheers for the info. Have you or has anyone changed the flatter outlet pipe coming off the turbo to the intercooler (drivers side behind the arch liner and usually called the pan pipe) before the rubber one that connects to the intercooler as its restrictive (know it was terrible on the 1.8 20vt)?

Heres the link but thinking of buying universal silicone and aluminium pipes and doing a DIY as the route is simple enough and dont need the fancy clip connectors as would be jubilee clips (is at turbo and intercooler (if your cutting the metal connector off the standard pipe) anyway).

http://uspmotorsport...products_id=526

Just nipped out and had a look and tell a lie it is one of those fancy push fit connectors from the turbo to the pan pipe.

Had a search on google and can get the intercooler hose set for about £40, but have to order 10 pieces. Heres the link but doubt we will get 10 people, but worth the ask! Im trying to work out where the smallest pipe with the metal connector goes, but im sure it connects to the small metal turbo outlet (the one bolted to the turbo and had the clip connector which the pan pipe connects to.

If this is the case and wanted to get rid of the the restrictive pan pipe, then would simply be a matter of getting a 2.5 or 3 inch (will have to measure the standard hoses but sure its 2.5 inch) universal aluminium pipe (which this chinese company supply) with a 135 degree and would do the job nicely. Looking about £50 delivered which is a bargain when you consider the usual costs and the standard rubber s3 pipes will be over double that alone. Can even have Briskoda stamped on the pipes for free lol :)
