Does the VRS have heated mirrors?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I noticed the VRS had loads of rain on the side mirrors. I started the car and thought the rain drops would vanish after a good 45 minutes of driving...

Nope they were still there and made overtaking a tad dangerous. Moreso as it was pishing it down like mad on the M6!

Does it have heated door mirrors or not?

Thanks

Mine does, just set the mirror switch to the centre setting (a little mirror icon), switch off by moving to one of the L or R symbols to avoid over-use.

Thought they all did TBH......

They only come on when you have the heated rear screen on.

I find the same, if the switch is left on heating i think you need to switch it off and on again to get the heating to start again

Edit: oops just noticed this is on a Fabia so i might be wrong :giggle:

Serious??? That's good to know!

Not quite - I think earlier ones were like that, but later ones work independent of the rear screen. It's like that on my wife's 51-plate car, but the mirrors on my 54-plate work by themselves. The switch is different on my wife's compared to mine as well, but I don't know if that's any way of telling...

Hmmm...mines a 2006...I also thought they would work independently....maybe not then?

Mine's a 2006 car, and they definitely work separately on there.

Are they any good at getting rid of rainwater?? On my Z4 they clear instant...

Maybe its a Skoda thing...just a bit worried for the wife when the snow/ice starts....

Big raindrops aren't so good, but frost and mist go in no time. I don't think I've ever driven a car where the heated mirrors have got rid of raindrops...

On my Fabia 1.4 TDI, I always leave the mirror adjusting knob in it's centre position, if it's been raining leaving rain drops, I just rock the adjusting knob towards the rear of the car and it switches the mirror heaters on, cleans in about 5 mins.

DB.

Yep, agree with this exactly.

Edit: If you're worried about raindrops, just whack some Rain-X on there - it'll soon run off.

And you don't have to turn them off, they switch automatically.

They are independent of the rear screen. My mirrors demist with the heater on, without having to have the rear screen on too. :)

Hmm mine must be wired differently then, as they definately only come on with the rear heated screen.

It was the same in the polo I had before too.

And you don't have to turn them off, they switch automatically.

A point to remember though, Every Fabia I've Vag-Com'd has the mirrors set on infinite heating, So as long as the ignition is on, The mirrors will be heating, Which will hasten their demise

So the rear screen and mirror heaters can be changed on VAG.com. for any time you like? I didn't know this.

Assuming the switch is set in the central position - and have you heard on here of many mirrors failing - I haven't....

The standard situation with the rear window is as follows:

The rear window heater switches off automatically after 20 minutes. If you press

the switch  once again, the rear window heater is switched on permanently -

the automatic deactivation is thus deactivated

Yes the activation times can be altered!

Well, I bow to your greater experience!

Start a poll! Or shall I?

Mirror heating elements fail, There's been a few post regarding the same over time!

So without any other factors i.e. Impacts or vandal damage, How else can you explain a heating element failure?

Constantly powered, Or just a case of bad Juju?emoticon-0105-wink.gif

The subject is the mirrors not the rear screen!

I find that any rain water is cleared in about 5 mins when the mirrors are heated

I've had them set on heated since I had the car (2 years) and I can't see them burning out any time soon !

The subject is the mirrors not the rear screen!

Yes - but it's a connected subject and I didn't introduce it. If you feel that posts veering off topic is a problem please post such remarks on all the other ones which do too.

+1 ;-)

I used to think that they worked in conjunction with the rear window heater, so always kept the knob in the middle position... Until I was sat in traffic one day and went to wipe someting off the mirror and thought 'holy crap that's hot!' haha. It's been switched to L or R ever since! I'm sure when I have been in Vw's they have a 4 position switch, one being the off position at the top - not sure why Skoda never adopted this.
