bumpers, and hockey sticks all in primer

Looking good.

Looks good. You doing the spraying yourself as well?

Indeed, looks well on it's way to B)

Did you sand down the bumpers or just use a high-build primer to deal with the texture?

Debating about re-spraying the rear plastic number plate surround on my MX5 - how much do I need to do first Tom? As above what sort of primer do you need to use? Cheers

plastikote is an excellent primer for plastics because it stays flexible

This is impressive. Good work. Don't think many pick up's receive this sort of attention.

right folks, sorry i've been really busy... it appears that the wings on the pickup are different to the hatchback ones.. just went to try and bolt them on and the top chassis rail is a different shape on the pickup, there's an extra piece of box section added for strength. so out came the nibbler to chop them out to make them fit

more updates on this soon

I don't mean this as an 'I told you so' but did you order the non-RB wings (098 901 23x)? The difference between the non-RB and RB inner wings as shown in the body repair manual sounds a lot like what you describe there ;)

Looking good, only thing it's missing is grey side-repeaters :)

Is the front bumper standard?

  • Author

i found out that the clear number plate light fittings are the same fitment as the side repeaters so i might try and grey out a pair of those and see how it goes... yes the front and rear bumpers are the orignal standard bumper, painted up with high-build plastic primer and flatted to remove/disguise the textured finish.

painted the bed and tailgate top trims in matt black because they were really faded, going to do the plastic tailgate trim with the 'pickup' and 'lxi' badges in matt black too when i get round to it  i decided on matt black because it seems more sensible than having them body coloured which damage fairly easily, plus i think it looks better in black anyway

there's only a few minor adjustments to make such as the tailgate hinge alignment (it's slightly out in the pic above) and the left hand indicator/grille needs a bit of fiddling too to get it 100%, next job is to clean it thoroughly as you can tell from the pics it's absolutely filthy, then machine polish it all, then job done!

then it's onto fitting the new wheels and tonneau cover which are sat here ready to go, also i need to repair the tailgate loom because it got torn out, i didn't work anyway because there is a dodgy connection or a broken wire where it goes through the flexy rubber from the body to the gate

Well done Tom! another superb job and a very good colour choice, though it's a colour that will clearly look better in the flesh than the pics do justice.

I can't wait till May when i hope i will get to see it.

I dunno if the ship has already sailed in regards to the L&K leather seats,

These ones look in fair good nick

I know there not the cheapest but i would definately buy the rear benches, doorcards and headrests off you in May when i come down!

Bournemouth isn't a world away from you either, i think?

Edit: I REALLY AM A NUMPTY SOMETIMES, the listnig ended on the 13th Dec 2010!!!!
