The painters are in!

Glad I sold them then, I need my arms, especially this week.

Truck's looking good, Tom - did you take pics of it before? Then the real contrast will be apparent as it was (ahem!) looking a bit tired! (no offence!)

i must admit i don't think i have many pictures of it before, it's not as if I wanted to draw attention to the fact it is a complete ****heap. i used to get people come up next to me at the traffic lights, and i could hear them through thier open window saying "what a piece of.." it was funny having the GTI badge on the back though like in my avatar pic

funny what a bit of paintwork can do, i've had people offer me silly money for it already.

I wonder what it would have looked like with the chrome conk Mk2 Felly front on? Complete with the round fogs..

To me, a lot worse - I much prefer the early Felicia front to the later one. Horses for courses though!

I have to agree. The corporate nostril on the front to try and give them all a 'family' look is horrible. The slots are fine for cooling so a huge air intake is pointless really.

Nice job there Tom! :-)

i prefer the early front ends as well, i've just got another grille to play around with, going to chop it about a bit and de-badge it and make it smooth

todays jobs, were to repair the tail loom which got badly mangled, these looms are no longer available from skoda folks... then did some fiddling around with the tailgate hinges and locks etc to get the alignment of the tailgate absolutely 100% perfect, it took a fair bit of trial and error and plenty of swearing, the bumper needs to come off to do it so it seemed a logical step to do it at the same time as repairing the tail loom... then fitted my new tonneau cover..

tonneau cover by monsoon 4x4 linky to monsoon 4x4

it fits really nicely, it slides into the c-channel on the back of the cab then you use the little poppers to pop it onto the plastic side rails, it's vitally important that the side rails (hockey sticks) are properly secured down and that the tailgate is 100% aligned right before trying to fit this though because you need to drill holes in the plastic to screw in the fittings, it is a really well made cover though but it's a shame they never supplied any screws with the kit to fit the poppers. the kit was £90 including vat iirc or therabouts which is roughly the same price as a skoda genuine tonneau cover

edit: mosoon don't list this cover for a skoda pickup, they only list it as fitting a vw caddy pickup 98> but that is exactly the same thing! i've often found when looking for aftermarket parts that searching for caddy 98> parts instead of searching for skoda pickup gets you more results

pick-ups looking great :) ,that tonneau cover looks better than the skoda one i bought last november :'( S ,ive just noticed one of the rivets on the securing straps is now missing :'( your right about the price, standard cover from skoda £90.01

should have gone to monsoon :wonder:

I would send your plates back too Tom :p

I would send your plates back too Tom :p

that's a special police evasion plate i had custom made which goes blank by pressing the accelerator pedal fully to the floor. money well spent

omg the tailgate looks well wonky in that pic (pic taken before i adjusted it), it's quite a tricky job getting them aligned right.. also looking at that pic i can't help thinking more and more that i'm going to paint that plastic trim with the pickup and lxi badges to matt black the same as the hockey sticks

Edited by TeflonTom

Well its standing still there, so I would say they are faulty :p

yes, quite right! foiled again :giggle:

does anybody know how much a new front skoda badge costs from the dealer? mine got broked, i seem to remember you used to be able to buy black front badges too??

I think the black ones were for the Favorit (late model).

looking good tom :thumbup: ......the car iam on about....do you have centre caps for the wheels....and is that more scrapyard goodies hiding under your new cover :wonder:

  • Author

i ordered a set if the black centre caps today from tps, and some little plastic 'nut' thingies that pop over the wheel bolts, since taking this picture i've ripped the body colour badge trim piece from the back of the tailgate and replaced it with a new one which arrived today (interestingly on etka it's described as a light fibre :giggle: ), got a complete new set of badges including the 'pickup' and 'lxi' badges which was just under £30...

i've also got a new front badge because i stood on the old one, but i can't figure out how it attaches to the grille panel, there's no fixings or screws or anything showing on the parts diagrams so i guess i'll just put some tigerseal on there and slap it on...

the hump in the middle is the rain bar to stop puddles forming in the centre of the tonneau cover when it rains

Looks great Tom :thumbup:B)

That is absolutely ruddy gorgeous - top job!

I'm pretty certain the grill badge should be the stick-on type with just a couple of lugs on the back to align it with the holes in the panel. If it doesn't have a sticky pad on the back already that's probably under a separate part number.

  • Author

there's deffo no sticky pad on the front badge, and there wasn't one on the old one either, i can't remember if it had any screws or anything either :wonder:

Ah yes, it's the later ones which are stuck on. For the pre-facelift grille the diagram has a screw from behind the badge (6U0 853 484 A "Oval head panel screw" so it's probably a self-tapper).

Looking really good, Tom. I can't believe it's the same car I had a go in a couple of years ago! Looks really "factory", which to me is a good thing!

Looks absolutely fantastic - really nice job all round.

Right, that's it. Had enough work (or at least surfing the web pretending to work) for today - going to go and play with my Felicia whilst there's still an hour of sunshine left.

Get it finished, James! :)

forgot to add this pic yesterday, replaced the body coloured trim panel on the back of the tailgate with a new one, i think painting it was a mistake and it looks much better black, replaced all the badges for new ones too
