Miles to a tank

Featured Replies

I dont seem to be getting that many to a tank, normally about 330 or something like that. Is there any ways of improving this as i dont think its that many? Its on 17s but dont think that makes a huge difference and im taking off my coilovers asap. Any ideas as to how it could be improved?

cheers

Having come from a big thirsty V6 I have a very light foot most of the time, I manage about 500 out of a tankful.

Used to get 350 for £60 out of the V6

So my advice do as I did with the V6 learn to drive economically, there is an art to it.

330miles from a 45litre tank equates to about 33mpg!

You're supposed to average 53mpg with that car, so should be seeing about 520miles on a complete tank.

So you either drive like a loon, or there's something up with the car I'd say!

What pressure you running your tyres? My MPG drops off a bit when the pressure goes down in my 17"s, I tend to run them at 36psi.

I get about 440 out of around 9 gallons without much effort since the Turbo upgrade.

I dont drive my car like a "goon" at all. Thats why i asked this question, if i was driving it like that then id realise why its not so good. Ive recently had the car serviced aswell but hasnt really changed much. Maybe i should run the tyres a bit higher then

I usually average about 320 miles to a tank.

I aim for 450 when I fill up, by the time its time to refuel again its more like 400 and that's combined goon and eco driving. Totally standard VRS

I get at least 450 miles to a tank with the expansion tank filled. Easily get over 600 if I drive like an old lady.

I dont fill my expansion tank as i still havent worked out how lol

Don't forget its been winter/still is - heaters on, car takes longer to warm up etc etc.

I'm etting 350 per tank atm. We all do differing journeys too so its no biggy.

280 miles in my 1.2 classic. I duno whats wrong! I've very careful with accelerating etc drive most places in 5th and dont rev over 2000rpm.

I usually get between 350 to 380 out of tank and that soley depends on how I drive. Some days I just like to put the foot down (not speeding, just some nice fast acceleration)

I was lucky to get around 300 though out the bad snow the UK had recently. I filled up the last two weeks with Maxol diesel (usually use Tesco) and it definitlely runs a bit smoother.

Try adding some Millers Diesel Oil. It will clean the engine and reduce black smoke. It def got me a few extra miles here and there.

dont worry chris, mine is the same, i used that fuelly site to confirm and it said 34mpg for mine!! nothing wrong with the car tho. altho im aware it should be more than this, im gonna increase the psi in the tyres altho currently running 2.2 bar front and 2.1 rear which is the reccommended pressure. i too had a service about 3000mile ago and still made no difference. i dont drive like a "tool" either, the odd blast here and there but still should be averaging the 45mpg urban figure (nevermind the 54mpg combined figure) at least as 90% of the time i play the economy game lol very addictive. really is quite annoying losing 10mpg! should pic up come the summer time but i must admit i do alot of short runs but still 45mpg should be a cert i would have thought.

I'm not sure if it's classed as an engine oil. You don't add it to the oil cap. You put a bit in the fuel tank before filling up

yeh im aware you add it to the fuel tank lol i just googled millers diesel oil but didnt see anything, any links to what you use?

I get around 430 if im honest thats my daily drive to work main B roads and some A roads, drive with some accelaration etc.

If i drive on he motor way get more towards 500 odd.

How many miles do you drive a day that could be why you arnt getting many to a tank,Whats your trp say mate?

my trip says 44mpg.

I have a fairly smooth drive to work and back so I can get a good 420-450 miles to a tank (filling up just before the light comes on). I think it's down to how well you can maintain a constant speed, which in rush hour on main roads is difficult for some areas of the country.

According to my phone I get:

Average: 410 miles

Maximum: 488 miles

Minimum: 340 miles (before I found the expansion tank, so this probably throws my average off a bit)

Last: 454 miles

My daily trip consists of a few (or just one, depending on the day) relatively short dual carriageway stretches and the rest A / B roads.

Try using fuelly to track your mpg it gives you a graph to show your mpg per month and shows how much you could save per mpg. it's very good.

I get 290 out of a full tank :giggle: (1.4 MPI)
