Anyone find their VRS....

...unemotional/souless/boring/lacking in character?

Previously when i was lift sharing my driving experience was limited to a few weekend trips in the Fabia and it never failed to bring a smile to my face. Having spent pretty much 8 years driving exclusively turbo diesels I was a torque addict and loved the easy and quick progress.

However since the purchase of Pasty Wagon #2 I've been driving that everyday and i think it's weaning me off derv?!

A day in the Fabia yesterday (to get the new wheels balanced on my lunch hour) left me a little underwhelmed.

Ok so it's lighter of clutch and lighter of steering making it easier to drive and a nicer place to be than the Beezer; and yes the extra 60bhp is certainly a bonus but while torque is fun after a brief foot down acceleration down a slip road I found myself thinking "meh  it's quick but where's the drama?!"

Don't get me wrong i still think the Fabia is brilliant and i can't think of a better car for the combination of economy & pace but occasionally think it's a little...um....dull? :S

On the flip side though it did mean the other half had to do her 60 mile round trip commute in the Spanish contingent and returned home complaining of a headache, aching biceps, and a left leg she could hardly move :D

You get used to any car, if my car was standard I would be bored silly with it but 240bhp and handling/braking mods make it fun/interesting to drive around the lanes. :)

I like the standard Fabia vRS as much as you can like a 130bhp car but it's not exactly lightning quick (not that I'm saying 240bhp is either) so gets tiring quickly. :)

What you need is a Morris 1000 petrol and the VRS. Believe me, the VRS still thrills me 3 years on  That said, I am still thinking of getting a Westfield, 0-60 in 2.1 seconds is pretty amazing, but the real buzz is in the corners. You can chuck a sorted Westie into corners at insane speeds (on a track). The only down side, is a noodle full of bugs :D

I drive my Fabia everyday, but the past 2 days I've been driving a 206 GTi that I'm selling, the 206 handles the bends much better than I remembered!

However I'm getting new tyres on the Fabia tomorrow so it may change things :)

I'm with you there! B)

7 years down the line and I still enjoy mine. But then my attitude to driving has change since I first got it.

On a test drive I found them quite boring too. No noise/shouting about again, all over very quickly/short gears.

Find a (maybe slower) petrol more fun, even my old 1.4 had a sense of occasion about it (maybe as it was shouting for its life trying to get anywhere!:giggle:).

Oh don't get me wrong this is NOT a "aren't VRS rubbish" thread.

I love my VRS.

I just hadn't realised until my deviation into naturally aspired petrol engined motoring how much fun revs were!! :)

Even though the 115(ish)bhp don't prompt as much violence as the torque swollen power of the derv there's something about having a car singing that can't be replaced

What you REALLY need is a Moggy Light commercial vehicle with the low ratio diff in it, coupled to a fairly tuned Midget 1380 engine & sierra 5 speed box..

I can honestly say I've never had as much fun in a car (well, pickup), what with being able to blow many rude boys away up to 50mph.

And a Vrs of course.

I normally drive mine under 2000 rpms so everytime I put my foot down its still fun.

I enjoyed the time I drove the MX5 whilst the mongrel was undergoing extensive repairs. Was great fun, but I do love my car. I do seem to be constantly changing stuff so maybe I have no time to get bored? ;)

to be fair im the complete opposite lol i love dervs with a passion, i love the fact that it doesnt shout about it or doesnt make a fuss of shifting on fairly quick, its so effortless, its when your going down a bit of a back road, bumps and dips quick few seconds on pedal, not much noise or fuss, then you feel yourself bouncing up and down in the seat look down frig im shifting rightly lol good times lol

love my vrs :) and mines standard, all be it blt, so possible 250-300bhp lol :giggle:

I love mine, and it's not even a vRS B)

Not long had the CTR, and ready to sell my vRS, so have been driving it around getting the seats done and the tracking after having new front tyres on it. So been in it most of the week.

It just feels boring compared to the CTR, light steering, clutch etc. Don't get my wrong i love the vRS. Its a great car, but the CTR is really fun and always puts a smile on my face. The vRS never did until I was at the post office putting tax on it.

I think its the incremental noise of a revvy petrol engine makes a big difference..

I sit in my friends vti civic, even though it doesn't feel as fast (even on paper its @168 bhp, its a 4 door and its a vtec so it takes forever to pick up :p ) it sounds so much faster and even as a passenger it feels much more fun.

A piece of music is generally judged on how it is being delivered rather than the pure complexity of the piece.

Love the engine, power, economy etc. But the looks are killing me! It's the least prettiest car i've ever owned.

Parked next to our corsa with the vxr pack, the fabia looks naf.

Even though it would blow half the street's car's away, it just looks dull.

But i'm not getting rid just yet.

(no offence intended) just all this vtec talk lol

Mum's just got a hybrid.. Makes the vRS feel like a rocket ship.

It's a all about comparisons, and a tidy Ibiza is a good car.

There's always something more exciting about a lighter, tinnier older motor. The vRS probably is boring in comparison because it's just less drama.. but it's not just the engine or the fuel.

You're lucky.. you have both :D:thumbup:

Google 'Morris Minor Spellbound'..

IIRC, he's running about double that power

Edit:

Sorry, 150%:

On the dyno it made 752hp @ 7000rpm with exactly 10 pounds of boost and has pushed our truck to a 9.32 @ 144.7 mph with a 1.28 60 ft with a 3600 RPM trans brake launch!

i swapped my 280bhp starlet (under 800kgs) for a 63 vw splitty :) u cant use a properly fast car on the roads anymore! slow and the low is the way to keep your license! and yes i know my name is 64 bus! because its now been proven to be a 63 not 64 as the paperwork from the states suggested!

lol. I'd rather an m3, golf r32 or rs4 for looking mean! No one moves out of the way when there's a fabia up they're arse.

Never mind, still luv mine. :)
