Just to make sure I have ordered the BKR7E spark plugs and a new throttle body gasket so I can give it a good clean. Thats it then not getting anything else unless I am sure its the problem. I will give an update to this thread once I have got it sorted. Thanks for the replies

  • I've had several different maps on my many VAG 1.8T's & the only 2 that didn't surge were Revo, & ECU-Evolution. A note of interest is that when I had my mkiv Anniversary Revo'd it did surge s

Hopefully we can get it sorted :-)

when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?

Forgot to mention I had no problems when it was 1st mapped and all the pipes were in place

Its a strange one, hopefully ben can solve it.

Just a thought. You have a forge 007P diverter valve. Have you the standard (green) spring or tuned (yellow) one installed? If the standard spring is installed this may make the car surge as the dv is opening slightly when under the most load and turbo is compensating and overboosting / surging.

Yip i changed the spring last week mate for the yellow one, no difference.

It is the standard spring, however Ben advised me to leave it with this one plus its not surging on full load.

earlier post, r tech worst map i ever had performance touque all the way

r-tech bad map really ???? that is the first one i have heard of!! why was it bad???

back to the op it doesnt matter what you try or what you swap if its software related wich i suspect it is then you will be able to do feck all to solve it

get map removed and see if it goes simple as that

Like i said earlyier when i removed the map with my STS unit there was no surgeing so something in the software in the map is causing a issue with mine and ollies car.

Weird how shark have mapped many vrs's before and our 2 cars have come up with this issue, my typical bad luck lol

As much as the stage 2 is appealing I can never ever convince the misses this would be a good idea :giggle: Thanks karlbar2k I am hoping this is the cure then I can spend some money on some other tweeks :)

stage 2 is the dogs balls!! no hassle yet and been running it since xmas. its a shark map as well

That's what I was thinking, never heard anyone say this. I searched through stig1 posts and all I found was him praising the R-tech map, very odd.

I have the exact same problem and i am sure it's a dirty throttle body, a freind with a saab turb had the same prob and a new throttle body cured it. Will be watching with interest..

is yours mapped by ben also????

It aint a dirty throttle body, mine was cleaned two weeks ago for the second time in 3months i put a new gasket on also. It made no difference what so ever.

Mine has fluctuating boost on WOT at the moment too, with the Shark map.

It didn't do it when I first got the map, but it's gradually become more noticable over the last few months. I serviced the DV, which didn't cure it, and I've upgraded to the yellow spring, which also turns out not to have helped. The complete breather system has also been renewed.

My guess is that it's just a dirty TB. So I'll sort that out first.

If it doesn't fix it then I'll have to get Ben to have a look at it for me I guess....

Is it most noticeable mate when you say overtake in 4th and 5th? I tryed this today on my comute to work this when the surgueing is most noticeable in my car it can be quite dodgy as you expect the power to be there and its holding back making the overtake a bity longer. Off a roundabout in 2nd 3rd 4th gear it will pull fine very smooth i had a wee play with a leon cupra r off the roundabout wasnt to far behind him :-)

Now that's interesting, as you have different software Bodge. Absolutely says to me that it's not the map, of course it might be something that we can work around in mapping as soon as we find out what it is.

Have you organised a time and date yet ben with ollie to look over his car mate? Dnt mean to sound pushy just really want to get it sorted i really like the map its very smooth and pulls very well, its just the surgeing in 4th and 5th, i have started running my car on 99ron fuel is goes a bity better could that have something to do with it as i had been running on 95 ron fuel?

should always run a remaped car on the best fule you can get

Yeah i have statred doing it now :-)
