Harrison's had a couple of used R3s going for just over £3k. Guessing some peeps will jump straight to the R1 now, but there doesn't seem to be that much difference between them.

I have a crazy wide APS-C Sigma lens that I haven't used in around 5 years :D I can mount it on my full frame R6, but the rez drops to 8mp. Might give it a go though, just for giggles :)

Grey import R3 is £3400 doesn’t make sense to buy secondhand at those prices. R1 is a big jump price wise for not a great deal more. If the resolution was higher I’d think about it. Though ideally an R5ii in an R3 body would do me.

@Graham Butcher Glass technology doesn’t date as quickly as camera bodies, though can be expensive so it’s seen as a long term investment. I’m stuck with RF glass and Canon now, unless something extraordinary is produced by another manufacturer. That said it’s just too expensive to change systems nowadays.

Even at £500, I would leave it in the shop these days, before I retired it might have been a different story.

I often look at Panamoz and their prices are tremendous :)  R5i with adapter ring £2230 and R3 £3540 all new and 3 year warranty. Shame they don't do the lenses I like.

But to be fair, I do like to support privately owned shops like Harrisons if I can., They offer a great service in these internet dominated times. There is something to taking your own camera and plugging on a potential lens purchase and running around the store like a loon, taking photos of people who really would prefer you left them alone. :D

Nice Scala. How's it handle standard?

It's been about 3.5 years since I had it standard so can't really comment.

All I remember is that the ride height is ridiculous on the Scala as stock, it is way too high and therefore it rolls a lot in the corners and nose dives under braking.

Otherwise the little 1.0tsi 115 is a great engine, reliable, punchy and efficient.  Mines done 42k miles since I bought it in March 2020, it's only ever had 99RON in it and still feels as good as ever.

And in reality the Scala is a phenomenal family car for the money.

Happy to answer any other questions if you have any.

Don't bring it round my way, if the speed bumps can get my standard Superb to bottom out, you would get left high and dry in that for sure.

  • 2 weeks later...

The northern lights were quite stunning in the Scottish Borders by all accounts. ( I can’t spell ori boriolus..) Too knackered to bother with them tbh as we’re flat out on a property conversion and will be homeless if I don't get my finger out, with a potential buyer for one and another not finished. Also the reason for not much togging lately. We are taking a day off next Sunday and heading to Knockhill for some Rally Cross. Looking forward to posting some mediocre shots of the local scrotes smashing their Poxhall Novas around a dirt track..

In the meantime a camera phone shot taken last night on the way back from the kebab shop.

Double win. nice photo and a kebab

Glorious this afternoon and still pretty warm (16 degrees)😎

Not too muddy either 🚲🙂

I spotted what appeared to be a chap getting knocked off his bike in the rear view mirror earlier - I doubled back to make sure he was okay and it turned out he was just unable to get his feet out of the clipped-in pedals quick enough - happily no harm done 👍

A couple of the shots I got last weekend at the National Tramway Museum in Crich, Derbyshire during an evening running event. I was walking past Sheffield car 510 (The last Sheffield Tram used in 1960) and saw the conductor sat having a break. I knew I had to get the shots and had a gritty dark 1950/60s style in my head..... I think they've both come out well and how I wanted.
