Push Bikes & E-Bikes.  I am on the East Coast and she is on the West Coast.

i made my first push bike out of a scrap frame and pirated a tandem with drum brakes, french gears,... and gradually formed the first butchered road going bbbike...

i cycled from bo'nes west lothian  to musselburgh in east lothian and back in one day..25.2 miles..that is in Skocia btw

that was 1958 when i was 15..and i look back on it as a great adventure i had no food nor money and no weather protection

it was summer, it didnt rain and i didnt get a puncture...some of the hills i had to walk up

Again, not taken for the quality, but for the fact I've never been so close to a Heron.  It was fishing about 8' away from me, on the Cuckoo trail between Eastbourne & Polegate.  They're beautiful birds (just not if you're a stickleback!):

That’s a good wildlife shot..most would criticise any flaws in the image of the animal and forget the presence of the surroundings are as important

what struck me was the way the animal seemed folded into the background camouflage in some respects ready to strike its quarry.

Thought I'd add a heron too but not sure what I took the shot with! :worried:

that is another bird in the wild shot...not an overcritical portrait with pin sharp eyes etc

held in an oasis of light and its reflection, musing perhaps on what might be for lunch..or digesting the one it had..in quietness...the leaves give us a 'secret viewer' feel but not intruding so.

have you seen a quite marvellous shot of anything...and no one to tell you what camera it was taken on...B)

that is a mere detail...and cant make the knowledge of it make the photo any better...just raise GAS in the viewers wallet

cheers

It may have been shot on a camera phone. Sometimes it's 'the moment' that matters!

Anyway, whilst I'm in a twitching mood......

i like your processing or method of selection of preset...if in fact you used any

Thanks Geof, used a bit of HDR processing, lifted the detail and structure. Not everyone’s bag but works well with some shots, including this one. Another couple below, taken at a mining museum.

I have tried HDR but couldn’t get good results...I have oloneo  software...can you give me some of your tips on processing

ps I worked for the national coal board and have used these type of showers

where was that museum?

Not familiar with oloneo.. I tend to dip in and out of a few programmes and just stick to the presets with minimal adjustment. Then make final adjustments in lightroom or similar. Oloneo looks good as it processes RAW files.

I use it for single shots, though Ideally you need to use bracketing and upload a set of shots. Avoid anything that’s likely to move such as people, nature etc. Again just work through the presets to find something you like. To add more colour, a tweak with the gamma setting usually does the trick if the software has one, if not use another app to add contrast and increase luminance and/or saturation.

Hope that helps.

thanks...since i bought it i havent used much of its power...and made wrong adjustments

i did try 5 bracketed shot processing and i could see then what the programme was best at...

normally as you do use lightroom..as it does raw as well

now i have changed camera i will have to buy lr 4 ...i have lr3

my usual technique is the use of burning and dodging once i have set in place the initial processing

CC crop and clone first then whatever tonal changes please me...and usually a sharpen/noise reduction adjustment

then a going over with the burn and dodge tools...

sometimes apart from crop and clone...nothing really changes..but i use this routine to check out variations

notwithstanding...i dont change any flora or fauna if labelled such..except the crop and clone stage

thanks for the insight to your workings..we all take different paths but usually arrive at progressively good material

i think you go too far old chap....climbing trees are just not tout à fait acceptable?? nest pass..  its cheating..

they all are quite interesting for the race enthusiast...for the photographic point of view show good compositional and use of background to emphasise...as in the striped areas in a lot of the shots..

my favourite for the group are the shots of the 3 lawbreker being chased by the shire reeve with his posse comitatus right behind

there is a story there...

also the last..the mini..its nostalgic even though it probably doesnt have a 950cc engine

my lightroom is not suitable so i used maximum jpeg...LR4 soon...maybe

this one appeals to me for the vibrant colours...they take away any feeling of the car being 'static' in the eye of the viewer...the background suggests movement by association.

I wish I had spent a little more time perfecting this, as this was just a "quick snap", but playing around with a long exposure (15s) and high ISO (1600) as it's pitch black - only the full moon in the background which you can see with the light peeking through the trees on the right.

The trees were then mainly exposed with a torch for a few seconds.

My aim was to get the trees lit up a bit whilst still seeing the starry sky above. The full moon doesn't help with the stars as you lose out on contrast, but for a quick attempt, I'll take it :)

997475007_skodamoon2.jpg.5b10cf1791516276c7ba62846f56fec5.jpg that is a good start...getting the stars to shine is difficult unless you use a longer exposure...imho

the moon i feel is a good item to mystify the shot a bit....

the fill light could be lower

i do a bit of post processing and have done what i thought might be an indication of how to burn and dodge to get a different effect...which is open to argument!!..:nerd:..??

a 15s exposure is fine with a fast lens.

And the photo above is pretty much SOOC, no real retouching. I could work on it a bit like you've done to improve it :)

thats what i do all the time...photoshop etc

it is possible to get a great shot without any processing...just crop and clone which are my first jobs to improve composition and take out nasties

really that should be all...but its not easy to get a shot like yours again...conditions change...

best of luck with the camera though

my motto

fotografy is phun!!

ps for starry sky shots with long exposures one can get star-trails and the moon would blur...

its a trade off really speed and iso and aperture as you have mentioned

I've found that up to 15 seconds, it's fine. From 30s onwards, you start to see trails when pixel peeping.

Lens is one of my favourites: 24mm f/1.4. cost me a small fortune but shallow DoF for journo style shooting or night scenes is brilliant.

I've also started to do some serious timelapse work with LRtimelapse. Awesome software and excellent usage of xmp sidecar files for transferring changes in and out of lightroom.
