Oil advice and recommendations here!!

Hi -

Which oil should I use in my 2006 (July) Octavia VRS? It's a petrol engine and I believe it's set to variable servicing. I'm told by the dealership that variable and annually serviced Octavias use the same oil: 1040 semi-synthetic. Is that right?

Thanks.

Not quite true

you can use the longlife 3 oils for both time/distance and variable but not the other way around.

Variable servicing requires the longlife oil 504.00 (5w-30)

Time Distance servicing requires oil approved 502.00 (5w-40 usually, only a few are semi synthetic 10w-40)

  • I have read that the Fabia VRS requires 4.3 litres of VW 505.01 oil. Is there a fully synthetic Oil that comes in 5 Litre cans, cos I don't really want to buy 2x4 litres

hi

what diesel oil would you recommend for my december 2003 fabia 1.9 tdi. - 55000 miles

thanks

ray

If its a PD engine you need an oil approved to VW 505.01 spec

If its a standard TDi then 505.00 is the spec

I would go for the Motul VW specific 5w-40 or X clean 5w-40

both are approved to 502.00 505.00 505.01

covers all bases then

Opie oils sells it

hi Guys,

I own an OctaviaII 5 model 1.6 FSI engine, what is the best oil to use? Bare in mind i live in Cyprus where the weather especially in summer is very hot.

Thank you

Hello Guy,

Hope you can give me some pionters for me to discuss with the garage.

I am having problems with the engine oil in my 2006 Octavia VRS. The oil at the filler cap is creaming and is starting to appear at the dip stick. I have checked the water level and I am not loosing any water. The garage have told me that the breather pipe is not blocked, but I am still getting the creaming.

I recently had an engine flush and some new oil, but I still have the same problem?

  • 2 weeks later...

Last year when I had my local garage do a service, I specified 505.01 oil. What they used was 1 litre bottles of Castrol 505.01 Pump and Nozzle. They left me some in the boot, it states "Top up oil for use with VW 505.01 engine oil". It does not give me any more information other than that. Obviously it meets the spec, but does not give the viscosity so was this oil suitable?

My second question is, this year I bought some Millers XFE-PD oil for them to change, but when I got home, the new bottle was virtually empty and when the engine was cold, the level was slightly above Maximum. Will this do any damage or affect my performance?

Does your car do a lot of short journeys and rarely get a decent long run? 100 or more mile journey?

Cheers

I've never heard of this oil, the Castrol that meets 505.01 is the Edge TD 5w-40

Cheers

One thin that I despise some garages for is the smug way they bill you for 5 X 1LTR bottles of oil at the standard rate per litre bottle, when what they have done is filled your car from a bulk storage tank that is located in their garage - so you get hit for say

Never heard of this oil??? It's on the list of PD oils in the Fabia Forum. See http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/what-engine-oil-must-i-use-my-fabia-vrs. It's the first Castrol oil listed on it.

As I said, I've never heard of it and we're Castrol stockists

The only Castrol 5w-40's that meet VW505.01 that we are supplied by Castrol are here

VW - Engine Oil - 505.01

You sure it's not some kind of dealer only oil like the quantum stuff?

Last year, 19/03/08, I was billed

Not much difference in price, they are all similar see here VW - Engine Oil - 505.01

Guy

Yep, a similar price for 4l for your Castrol and I got 4.3l + 2/3 bottle to top up. I, of course, did not include our 10% Briskoda Discount.

Anyway, will overfilling my engine with oil cause any damage?

hi guys

just spotted this thread, its fantastic.

I have a 03 superb 1.9 tdi classic 130bhp 124,000 miles on clock, it gets serviced every 10,000 miles, I never bothered asking garage what oil they use, but from now on i plan to provide my own oil to improve the life of my engine.

what do you think of TITAN GT PRO C-2 5W-30 or

TITAN GT LONGLIFE III SAE 5W-30 ????????? from GSF

From your experiences do you think these are good/suitable oils?

if so :confused:which one should i use?

apart from the titan brands are there any other good oils that you recommend???????

thanks in advance

The first one (PRO C-2 does not meet any VW spec so is best avoided.

However the GT Longlife III meets VW 504 & VW 507, so is the correct spec to use.

I have been using Fuchs for the last 5 years and have no reason to stop using it.

It depends how much you have overfilled it with Jim

It can damage the cat and the excess oil pressure can cause damage to some seals in the engine.

If you overfill an engine to an extreme amount like one of our customers did you can hydraulic the engine.

In response to the oil pricing. The price of oil always drops the more you buy, bulk buyers are rewarded for their big orders by a cheaper price and do so only to increase their profit. They will always charge per litre or per 0.1 of a litre which is why they charge at the 1 litre bottle price (thats just a fact of retail). If you want to pay

VW 507.00 thats all you need to know

A friend of mine runs a VW diesel with a PD engine so I asked him what oil he uses as he is a mechanic and services the car himself. He told me that he has always used bog standard Comma 15/40 oil for diesel engines and the car has done over 100,000 miles in 3 years. It runs as sweet as a nut.
