Ah Ha. I wish I found this earlier. Do you know what VW 504.00 and VW 507 00 mean as it's in my engine now. Castrol SLX 5w 30.

The 504.00 and 507.00 is the one stop shop oil, it covers all spec and service schedules, the idea is to make the oil selection for these cars a lot simplar if one oil will do all.

Hi Oilman,

Wonderinf if could help,

I have a 140PD Octy II in Madrid, After seeing my oil was low I went to but some more, after showing the garage the manual they said they did not know what the codes were, then a Taxi driver tells me to get the following oil, I used about 0.9 litre

Just got the bottle from the car, It is Mobil 1 5W-50 Rally Formula Oil and it says meets ACEA A3/B3/B4: API SJ/SL/SM/CF

Approved MB 229.3 ; Porshe! just seen the Porshe bit, they dont make TDI's should I get an oil flush imediatly, done a a couple of 1000 kms since I did it, I am really worried now. Thanks for any advice.

Guys,

I have a 2002 Octavia 1.8T (AGU engine) I always use Castrol Synthec 0W 30

This oil is the one made in Germany and has a green color. The Castrol Distribuitor here in my country import it from USA and say is the same as in Europe but for USA they call it Synthec. I have read that this oil is used in Europe and change it every 30,000 kms.

Here in my country BMW use it and change it every 10,000 Kms.

I also use the same oil in my wife Skoda Combi 1.6i 2001

In both cars I change the oil and filter every 7,000 kms.

What you think guys?

What VW specs are printed on the bottle? I can't quite read them in the bottom picture.

Yep, I am interested in those to, if it is a genuine German one it will have ACEA specs as well as API.

One thing for sure though in order for it to be a 0w it has to be true synthetic.

Have a look at oilman's post on the first page of this thread, Isaac, for an explanation of what those VW specs mean. That oil isn't the same as the LongLife oils specified in Europe for the Skoda 1.8T engine, although it is specified for the 180+ hp 1.8T engines in the Audi RS4, TT and S3. However it should be fine for both your cars on fixed service intervals since it includes spec VW 502 00. I would guess that it is a very expensive oil to be changing every 7000 km - or it would be at the prices we have to pay in Europe for LongLife oil!

Probably the same as the old Castrol SLX 0w-30 or now the Edge 0w-30, just in a different tin.

I pay for this Castrol 0W 30 Synthetic oil US$9.00 for a 1/4. Car use 5 1/4's so totally is US$45.oo plus VW/Skoda filter and hand labor, another US$50.oo So my total oil service is US$95.oo What do you think about it?

Dont know how they call this Castrol Oil in Europe but the only thing I can tell you is that the oil is green color and it say is made in Germany:rolleyes:

Do the Green oil color, help you figured out which Europe Castrol Name is??? (SLX, Edge, SLX LongTec, Supertronic Longlife or any other fancy name)

I clearly undertand that this oil is fine for both of my Skodas on fixed service intervals but I am curious of under what name is selled in Europe:)

THX,

Isaac

Castrol have been going through a re branding exercise this year and all oils are now called Edge or Edge Sport. The ones you need for PD engines and variable service are the Edge ones NOT Edge Sport.

You'll find full technical data on our Castrol Page here Opie Oils

I'm slightly confused. who'd have thought they could make this so complicated! theres a dozen specs for each bloody model.

I have a 1.9 SDI on an 02 plate.

service history as follows

00000 miles - skoda uk 02/07/02

10700 miles - skoda uk 23/05/03

21885 miles - skoda uk 06/06/04

31319 miles - independent 17/06/05

42885 miles - independent 30/06/06

Now i do a fair few more miles than the previous owner (my father) and am already knocking at 51k. Now presumably as its not been longlife serviced, and the garage reset the service light by fiddling some code with the odo controls and ignition key, i cant put it back onto extended service? It seems to be a grey area to me?

Thats Q1, now for Q2, If this is true, then do i use a VW505.00 oil?

the handbook has 10W40 written in it in my dads handwriting, so i'm assuming that my dad has phoned the skoda dealer he got it from to ask what oil to top up, as it seems to use about a half litre every month or two.(that or the independent garage that serviced it told him to use 10W40 and he wrote that on the book)

My preference would be to spend a bit more at the next service and use 5W40 or even as low as 0W40. So question 3, is Is this advisable?

Thanks for any help/advice

Hi chaps, any opinions on Carlube oil? Makro sell a 5w40 fully synthetic for a rather decent

Hi chaps, any opinions on Carlube oil? Makro sell a 5w40 fully synthetic for a rather decent £17+vat. Is this stuff any good for the 1.8T engine in an Octy RS?
I found mention on another forum that Carlube 5W-40 meets specs VW 502.00 and 505 00. The former (ie 502 00) means that it is suitable for your car if on fixed rather than variable service intervals.

hi, i have a tdi from new, 2002, and have done 80,000, starts on the button in winter, no cold rattles, and i use mobil 1 0w40. no top ups needed between oil changes. runs real smooth too. have tried different oils over my many years of driving. i know many people get edgy at the thought of a 0w40, but.. if your car has been looked after from new, its fine. i service it myself, change oil and filter at 10,000miles. i personally wouldnt go past the 10thou mark myself, no matter what the oil brand or type... but thats just me. hope this helps you, regards....

Without reading back thrugh all the posts, I have recently purchased a (4.5 litre) bottle of Castrol GTD Magnatec oil as my Leon 130tdi is due for 'refreshment', shortly, at 50,000 miles. Is this oil OK to use?
