vRS 0 - 100 time?

Featured Replies

Just been on http://www.letstorquebhp.com/fwd.htm which has the 0 - 100 time down as 22 seconds.

Is that right? anyone timed it on a private track?

Those figures look highly suspect to me - i.e. not really tested. Things like a Yaris T-Sport quicker than a Golf TDI 130, which it blatantly isnt - and thats just one example, another a Suzuki Ignis Sport being nearly as quick as an Octy vRS... again, not likely. I'd say none of these figures are based on anything other than guesswork.

It is about right. it all depends on the launch but i would expect 20-22 seconds to 100 mph.

not strictly true actually. I had a Saxo VTR which was had the same on road performance my mates Yaris, and my VTR could keep with Golf 130's up hill and pass them on the flat.

Erm... righto

By that theory then a T-Sport must be quicker than my Fabia then, which I know it isnt as I used to keep up with T-Sport's in a 1.4 litre Nissan Micra, which incidentally almost used to keep pace with VTR's as well, and I know the Micra is nowhere near as quick as the Fabia.

No

The fabia is quicker indeed, more like that little gap between a golf 150 diesel and a golf 150 petrol. Not sure about the micra though, but in 2 years and 38000 miles the VTR got a seriously hard time and was really quite brisk ;)

The only difference is the smaller engined 'hot' hatches or warm or whatever are not that good over 100 mph which is where the likes of a Fabia / Octavia RS are still pulling strong to a reasonable 130/140 respectavly i asume :)

But theres virtually no difference in performance between a Golf PD130 and a Fabia vRS AFAIK...

The last VTR that tried it on with me got left with a bemused look on his face and a soot covered bonnet ;)

Back on topic, but anyway I thought the Ibiza 1.8T FR got a score of about 21 seconds in the wet, so I'd expect an Octy to be about 20 seconds tops. I still say those figures are suspect.

Autocar timed the Octavia vRS at 16.7 seconds from 0 - 100 when they tested it in May 2001 - although there is a suspicion that the engine of that road test car was tweaked.

So 16.7 in Autocars 'was it chipped was it not' octy is not reliable? I quote it to everyone :D (was it chipped?)

One of our members owns it now but we still don't know the answer to that question.

Do I guess there were a few jealous manufacturers/owners spreading rumours?I think when Autocar did the figures for their long term Fabia vRS they came up with some pretty stunning figures. It's their own equipment they use and I think(forget the 7 ish secs 0-60) they were getting the fabia to 100 in about 22?

Huge,huge difference though,5.5 seconds

AFAIK, Autocar are pretty brutal when running their test times, ie. they've broken a few cars while doing them...so even though they get these timed runs, you probably wouldn't do it if it was your own car! :D

Nice to know they give them a proper thrashing(and I can tell people what it could do if I wanted to thrash it to within an inch of it's life :D )

IIRC the chip rumour talked about 190 BHP so,even though I think it was a standard vRS I presume 10 BHP is not going to knock huge amount off anyway.Another 20 plus BHP maybe.

I don't really know who I would trust apart from Autocar for proper figures. It's where I always look for in gear times etc and as you say, they obviously test cars properly(oooh, for a job doing that ;) )

0-60 in whatever time...my 60 to a tonne is about 7 or 8 secs, depending on how far past 60 I am....not an exact science, so 16 for a breathed on is not that far off and possible more accurate than elephants.

Nice site here: you can compare and race cars 0-60 0-100 1/4 mile etc, not sure exactly how scientific the graphics are though. Has the octy rs down as 6.7 seconds, a tad optomistic?

I think 21.44 to 100 is probly very acurate for the octavia vrs. as is their quote of 7.83 0-60, keep remembering its only 180 brake

You should drive 1 of the Suzuki Ignis Sports before knocking it, l could not believe how fast it felt and how much fun it was to drive  , if only l could have gotten into a comfortable driving position :thumbdwn:

Hi

The best we could do with our octy was 12.99 0-100

at brunters with pvw .

cheers

12.99

12.99 and with what bhp and torque, what tires? weather conditions? nos? boost pressure?

Yes, ignis sports are quite nippy, my old man has one, and in the lower gears if the revs are kept up, goes well,

22 secs has to be wrong...even if you hit 60 in 8 secs (which is easily beaten) there is no way it takes another 14 secs to hit the tonne.

i think ur in denial mate, they are not supercars, take the data from that website, paste it into excell, then rank all the cars, by their 0-100 time, then look along at the power to weight ratio......... and loan behold, cars with a similar power to weight ratio have a similar 0-100, or is the octavia an exception as some of you guys own 1?

So if that table is so correct, how come better results have been obtained from many cars on that table in roadtests? Like someone knocking more than 5 seconds from the time of a PD130 given on that table - and it sure as hell would take more than "aggressive" driving to make that kind of deficit.

Bryan, I am sure the Ignis is quick enough to about 60 or thereabouts, but where it will falter is at high speeds - its not exactly a large torquey engine, or an aerodynamic motor by any stretch of the imagination - it will feel quick because its constructed from baking foil and has no soundproofing and a noisy engine. Fun... undoubtedly, but I still think I'd fancy an Octy to hit a ton much quicker than it could - at least judging by the one that tailgated me one minute and was a mere memory the next... and that shouldnt be possible according to that table ;)
