New Here - Just bought a new 2.0TDI

Featured Replies

Hi all, on Sunday I bought a new Octavia Hatchback 2.0TDi in Deep Sea Blue metallic with 17" alloys and sports suspension, onyx upholstery.

I took the 1.9TDi out for a test drive which only lasted 10 minutes or so and the chap taking me out was a bit odd so I never really got in to it. The whole thing felt more like a driving test. It did not take much for me to go for the 2.0TDi and my wife was happy enough at the jump in price.

Can anyone tell me what the sports suspension and 17" wheels will be like? I currently drive a little Peugeot 106.

I am very, very happy with my buy; I paid

Hello :wavey:

Sounds nice! :)

Welcome! :D

I'm sure there will be quite a difference between the two cars mentioned. Not sure about prices but my view is, once bought, forget about how much you paid, 'cos there's nothing you can do about it other than being really hacked off if you find out after the event that it wasn't a good deal!

What spec is it, Elegance?

The model is Ambient so I'll not ask what others paid for there car. I felt like I got a decent deal, perhaps a bit over the WC Target Price now that I think about it. I get the car in a matter of weeks though which is nice. The car arrives on the 15th and my new son arrives on the 19th all being well - a big month all round.

Double congrats in order!

Can you give me a guide to the 6 speed gearbox and the best way to drive to get the best out of it? I am new to all of this and wanting to learn fast.

Well.. You start off in 1st then change up into 2nd then third .. Keep changing until there is no gears left!! :D:rolleyes: Cmon its nearly hometime!

Seriously initially keep the revs in between 1500 - 3500 rpm.. Also vary your

revs, don't use full throttle .... But also don't drive it like a granny...

Basically don't thrash it.!!!!

Nice car by the way....

Cheers

Will the 2.0 feel any different to the 1.9?

Oh yes. 2.0 is a lot quieter and has a hell of a kick to it - seriously fast.

Enjoy.....

Welcome to Briskoda.

Congrats on your purchase, i test drove both 1.9 and 2.0, the 2.0 felt much stronger in acceleration. I get mine 26th This month......ROLL ON :D

Everyone talks about DSG, will my new Octavia have a DSG gearbox? Hope that is not to stupid a question.

Unless you specifically ordered DSG yours should be a normal 6 speed manual. DSG adds about

Welcome, and a great choice if I say so myself, great engine the 2.0TDi, just clocked up 4K on mine.

I echo what's been said about the 2.0.

As for the 17's and sports suspension. I find it a wonderful setup. It's only harsh on very rough surfaces and a little bit boomy going over cats eyes on the motorway, the rest of the time it's just very surefooted and loads of grip

6-speed box. Doesn't take much getting used to and you'll find that on occasions you can block change to 2 gears up because the engine is that strong and the torque curve so broad. e.g. uphill slip road onto motorway in 4th, merge with traffic at 70 and go straight to 6th as peak torque is available from about 68mph onwards in 6th

The 1.9 is an 8v unit and the 2.0 litre is a 16v unit I believe for emissions purposes.

I've also just taken the leap. Currently own a X Reg 1.8T SLXi but ordered an Elegance 2.0 TDi with DSG couple of weeks back. Onxy leather (invaluable when cleaning up various ejected kiddies fluids etc.) , front p/sensor, curtain airbag, multifunc s/w & maxi dot, TPM.

Nice choice of cars, EdinburghKev and Atomic Sprout, and welcome to you both. :wavey:

Nice selection of toys! I'd have liked leather too, but budget meant it was either leather or DSG, not both. As you say, the DSG is lovely, so it was no contest really.

Welcome to a fellow DSG-to-be!

Forgot to ask, I also opted for the lights home/assist thingy option (

Ref Studbuckles comments - Does the 6-speed box increase final gearing for more relaxed cruising, or just put an extra gear in for acceleration purposes?
