VAG 170 PS Diesel Injector Failures - VOSA action

Featured Replies

For me the injector change has made a good car even better – long may it last!

Glad someone's getting some benefit out of this experience.

Do you declare to your insurer you're using Bluefin? If so, which insurer are you with? Cheers.

I'm also quite happy to report that, although my DPF issues havent gone away, since my full tank including a bottle of JLM DPF cleaner my problems seem to have settled (although not gone away complete

  • Yep, that's pretty much what the previous 769 posts alluded to too Glad you got it sorted, it's just a shame you hadn't seen this thread earlier and avoided a breakdown on the motorway. I wonder ho

Mine's doing exactly the same thing, I did have the dpf light on, the day after the injectors were done, but I don't know if that was because I was in stop start traffic for a hour or so or if the dpf was playing up because the injectors had been just changed. Anyway I soon cleared the problem by going on the M69 and sitting at 60mph in 4th gear, light went off after about 5 mins.

I did have a new dpf sensor fitted last Jan because of dpf regen problems and never had a problem until I had my injectors replaced a couple of weeks ago, now it seems to be ticking over at 1000 rpm most of the time, even after my 20 mile each-way comute to work every day.

I've had exactly the same issues with my car since the injector change. But (fingers crossed) it all seems to have calmed down now. I've done around 2k miles since if thats any help.

Had a Phone call from Dan Latta today to ask if all was OK with my motor.

Told him it's in at the dealers in the new year to have the Injectors replaced, he said he would phone me again in about a month to make sure all is fine.

Now Thats Customer service emoticon-0148-yes.gif Thanks Dan

Promised update on my experiences since the injector change last Wednesday [14/12]. I ran with the standard ECU mapping for 3 days / 150 miles of very mixed driving and car remained smooth and very responsive. No starting issues and fuel consumption was only marginally different, a little higher in traffic, slightly better in the 40 – 60 mph band and no noticeable change at typical motorway speeds.

Bluefin now re-installed and engine is still running like a sewing machine, flexibility seems even better. I need a few more miles to see what the fuel consumption figures show but initial indications are a slight improvement all round with Bluefin. For me the injector change has made a good car even better – long may it last!

Excellent news, I do some things right then ;)

Mines was doing that before my injectors failed! It still does it after they have been replaced. I thought it was firing fuel down to the dpf to clean it out!

I received a letter from Skoda, to take my car in for a complimentary check up in the injectors. I thought was strange as I just had my replaced by in sept/oct and thought maybe the new ones have issues aswell.

Took it in yesterday everything is fine, was just curious if anyone else got the letter inviting for a check up?

I didn't receive a letter but i took my car back the main dealers about two weeks after the injectors were changed. They checked it over and surprise surprise there was nothing wrong. The DPF light came on a couple of times and it seemed to be doing regens all the time.

But as mentioned earlier it seems to have calmed down and gone back to its previous ways.

Not sure how true this is but someone mentioned to me that it may take a while for the ECU to adapt to the new injectors and settle the car down. Is this feasable does anyone know?

I was advised take it easy for first 150 miles after they changed my injectors. Done 92 gentle miles already but last night on way back home a new Audi TT drew up in 2nd lane at lights maybe thinking the lowly vRS had no chance, he was wrong! Hope that doesn't upset the ECU.

Maybe this was why i had a few problems after the change. I thrashed the ******** off mine all the way home after i picked it up from the dealers!

Understandable!!

Hmm What i did notice after a few weeks, was that the car would rev up without picking up speed! It seems more settled now and I have got the car remapped aswell!

Rev up? You mean at idle or travelling?

Once it became clear via this thread that if failures were experienced SKODA would stump up for the bill, I finally decided to take my chances and buy my Octy 2 VRS PD, trading my mk 1 VRS in for a 57 plate 1 owner beauty at my local main dealer, Alex Lawrie Skoda Liverpool.

I must say that I'm delighted with the car and the service so far, not least as they called me early this week to say that there's a recall to check the injectors, and if my car has the affected parts they'll be replaced without question. Very happy with that. :)

Course you'll be happy with that, so was I, and many others have on this thread, until your beloved car has problems starting from cold after the change, coupled with low mpg and other oddities.

Update: just collected the car (which has had injectors replaced FOC). Noticably more smooth/linear power through the band now. By comparison there were almost some flat spots previously now I think back, so all good. Also good is that MPG seems to have definitely improved as well. Fingers crossed thats sorted.

After what sort of time scales or mileage are people experiencing these issues? I am a good 2 months and about 3000 miles into the new injectors and its still all good.. Mpg way better than before , much smother car... If the issues people are experiencing was due to the injectors, wouldn't more of us be getting the problems?

There might be loads of people with these problems but we can't assume they are all aware of this website or even have internet access, I certainly wasn't aware of this thread until I Google'd more info about the recall. On 3 of the injectors I've done 213 miles and on 1 of them 113 miles (this was a brand new faulty injector!)

I appreciate there may be.. But skoda are only just starting to contact people aren't they? The people who have had injectors done for a while are those on the threads like this on forums across various marques . It seems to be those who have had them changed recently that are experiencing the majority of issues.. There dont seem to be many people from the early stages of the swap outs with problems, and im sure they would post if they had.. Coincidence or has something changed now that they are actually asking owners to come in for checks..... Are they The same make if replacement injectors now compared to say 3 months ago?

Not so, some people been contacted for the work to be done and some haven't and had it done during a routine service without them being told, like me! Some people have had problems cold starting since and some haven't, it doesn't make sense! I mean all the cars are out of the same stable and I'm guessing they're all having the same parts fitted - maybe someone can clarify whether the make they're using 3 months ago is the same they're using now?

Had my recall letter last week and booked car into local wayside dealer and they changed all the injectors etc and even washed the car for me.

Feels and starts better still checking MPG.

My 07 TDI VRS failed 2 nights ago, having driven from Channel Tunnel (Calais) to just over the Czech boarder, 600odd miles. It was dark, lightly snowing, and the car was full, with 2 adults, 2 kids, and a boot FULL of Xmas presents and clothes for a week away. The coil warning light came on, and the car seemed to go into safety mode, but the power continued to fail. So we pulled over onto the hard shoulder, tried restarting the engine but it wouldn't start - as though the battery was on the blink.

Luckily, my Czech speaking wife contacted Skoda roadside assistance, and they came as quick as they could, with a courtesy car. But the 1.2 hour wait, standing with 2 young kids, in the snow, in the dark, next to a very busy road, was more than a little daunting. The car had only been serviced in September, and we had no idea that this issue even existed, so we were ill prepared for it. But the car is now at Jan Šmucler Czech Skoda dealership in Horšovský Týn, and the parts are coming direct from the factory. I suppose the car chose the right country in which to break down!

Skoda Assist on a 2007 car? Do you have the extended warranty?

Sounds a pretty scary ordeal to breakdown in a foreign country airshod, hope it's sorted now?

Maybe this should be on a different thread now but as I only started having cold start probs since the injectors were changed it's why I'm updating my status on this one. Took 2 turns of the key this morning at +10.5DegC to get car started! Drat! And I thought it was behaving itself since the milder weather has returned. Only thing different is I didn't start it yesterday, so a day of not using the car has caused the problem to re-occur and now means I either put up with it or take it back to garage, not sure I can be bothered.

We contacted Skoda in Cz. and it was pretty much "Help first, ask questions later". When they established what the fault was, they pretty much said that Skoda would get the tab. Proof will be in the pudding when we collect the car on the way back through Europe next week...! But so far, the original Czech Skoda service has proved to be very good indeed (no matter what it may cost).

I had my injectors replaced last week but ever since engine seems very hesitant a bit jerky drops in power a bit when driving. never noticed it before unless DPF was due to kick in. Could this be related to the injector change or another issue ? Anyone else encountered this ?

cheers
