SHOCKING SKODA CUSTOMER SERVICES

Featured Replies

This sounds right out of order.

Regardless of the system not operating properly as supplied, so yes potentially a case for trading standards, I would have expected at least 12 months of updates to be included.

When you ordered did the dealer advise of any limitations and mention anything about updating and costs?

I've never heard of a standard fit sat nav including updates.

Some people expect the moon on a stick...

And this is why I will never specify a fitted sat-nav. I'll stick to a cheap TomTom that can be updated more easily and more cheaply. OK I have a cable from the 12v socket, small price to pay IMO.

lol :)

You think Audi will be any better?

Garmin and Tom Tom charge for updates, not sure how much but I should imagine its not £130...

Can the disc be used more than once?

Maybe they should charge an upload/upgrade fee rather than selling a disc.

but tomtom sells a lot more then vag group

Was not told in advance of limitations ,only when I tried to utilised it for 7 digits did I find out,in regards. The updates not being free , YES they are it upgrades via the disk when you periodically put the disc into the header, now there is a new disk available were the 7 digits are in the disc, the disc initially that came with the car is for the continental 6 digit system and not the uk

Are you trying to say that the sat nav gets updates even without purchasing a new disc? If you are then I think you may be mistaken.

This is a £500 piece of kit, not a sub £100 unit from Curry's etc.

I didn't even consider it but would expect a unit costing this much from any manufacturer to work very well, offer more than just a neat installation compared to a TomTom Garmin etc and include good support for a while. It wouldn't be so bad if the updates were say £25 not £130.

According to this post Renault provide good support

I haven't ordered the sat nav with our skoda order because the dealer warned us it did not do 7 digit post codes. I'm shocked they want to charge you £130 for a firmware update. The renault carmanet sat nav in my trafic van update's via a sd card.So far since last december I've had

2 free firmware updates.

1 free map update.

£19 for 18 months worth map updates [at least 6 map updates].

£10 for speed camera updates. It really is a great bit of kit.

I think the big issue has been missed here.

V7 (7 digit postcodes) has been available since IIRC November 2010, (my December 2010 Superb certainly came with V7), so if you you bought your car just a couple of months ago then I would expect the latest disc to be supplied with the car!

Aye only had the car this feb but from may all new fabia's will get the upgraded disc, as for running day to day updates these are free as all you do is download the updates via disc and satellite

No not mistaken this is how it is, updates are free all you do is place disc in unit periodically and update automatically

Well I stand corrected then. I just didn't see how it had the ability to receive the data to update any of the firmware.

Clearly things have moved on from the factory fit sat nav I had in my old car!

Aye things have moved on, although still need to get the bloody new disc at £130 , trading standards today see what they say, thing is why give you the previous six digit set up knowing full well that there was a updated disc coming ?, idiots!!

Trading standards should advise you to write a letter to the dealer stating that the goods must by supplier in accordance with the The Sale & Supply of Goods Act 1994, Chapter 35, subsections 2, 2A, & 2B state that “goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, free from defects” etc. We have had 7 digit postcodes for decades!!! And if as some are sugesting there has been a V7 disc since last NOV then the dealer is a ***** and wants a bit more money in his pocket. B)

No my dealer is solid John good from suk phoned this morning I have to pay £130 for disc dealer said I can have it for cost, even he told me to contact trading standards

So the dealers offering it at cost and states that you should contact Trading Standards?? yes??? If so then write the letter to Skoda UK instead and inform Trading standards and how about Watchdog???!!!! As it is a clear breach of the Act especially if a v7 disc has been given out with other customer cars in last Nov!!!! B)

I suspect there are two issues here: firmware updates and data updates. The first would enable handling of 7 digit post codes and the second would provide those postcodes. Many AV goods can update their firmware over the air (OTA), so I would not be surprised if this SatNav can do it. This is done via a pre-booked schedule and is not available all the time - but it is free and no internet connection is required. I would not expect data updates to come this way. I expect that postcode data is the main content of the CD (although it would probably include the firmware as well).

OMG! Been to trading standards and I have a case under the sales of goods act, not fit for purpose apparently , went to see dealer and informed him (I feel awful doing it he and all the staff have been amazing) , I will need to write a letter stating my intentions and take it. In front of a judge , I feel it should be suk or head office in Prague that should sort this out the dealer didn't know there was an issue with the sat nav, all the other vag group have this capability, I feel so sorry for gwyn and the team having a really bad experience here, may in the future feel compelled to go somewhere else to purchase a vehicle for just £130

Disc with seven digits since November ? In the Columbus maybe but not the Amundsen I think other vag group cars had it but not skoda fabia,

Disc with seven digits since November ? In the Columbus maybe but not the Amundsen I think other vag group cars had it but not skoda fabia,

Just the Columbus (RNS510) had 7 digit upgrade last November. The Amundsen (RNS310) has only just had the 7 digit roll out.

Some VW models are now coming with RNS315 which is basically a Anundsen (RNS310) with in built bluetooth and DAB

Cheers

Dealer phoned me back today and stil trying to find out if they will give me a disk, charge me for a disk or do a firmware update.

I have been a bit cagey with them to see what the final response is i.e. if any cost to me.

Ill keep you posted, at least there working.

So you have the Amundsen sat nav? With the six digit disc, hope you get a better response than me , my dealer was pretty upset with the whole episode and I am convinced he's pretty miffed with me, so much so I am fairly certain that the next car will be something other than a skoda, SUK suck big time I am astonished that just have not supplied all fabia's with a replacement disc , I don't think they've sold many units, dealers only sold 1 other than mine 2 over all this time , so not a massive bill for skoda, but happy drivers they would have had!

Has anyone got the part number for the new upgraded disc, plenty of places on the web to download the data?

I just don't understand how manufacturer/suppliers have got into such a mess over 7 digit postcodes. I've resided at a 7 digit postcode for the last 25 years.

Even TomTom have been releasing non-7 digit postcode devices as recently as 2009 (the Smart)but at least they relented afterwards and updated their systems via the TomTom HOME system (free of charge) at a later date.

I note that the forums of other car manufacturers also complain about this particular deficiency. The following is from a BMW forum about an owner of a 2009 BMW purchased secondhand without a 7 digit post code facility, and querying this anomaly directly with BMW. Apparently the unit in question was originally a £2K optional extra!

Response from BMW, to my question about adding 7 digit postcode search facility to a Nov 2009 iDrive/Satnav :-

We at BMW Group are always looking for new ways to update the technology in our vehicles and as part of this process we have recently introduced a function known as ComBox. The ComBox upgrade has brought many updates to the iDrive system including the facility to enter full postcodes. Unfortunately, your vehicle was constructed before the release date of this technology and, therefore, does not include this function. BMW is, however, currently developing a software update for slightly older vehicles which will allow a full postcode search to be performed. The release date of this upgrade is not yet known, however, it will be displayed on the BMW UK website and communicated to our dealerships once the date becomes available.

Best of luck with Skoda Customer Services, but I fear they may also use the above "BMW defence" as an excuse.

Yes it shocking how this has not been sorted, I was at Audi this morning and they don't put the info on the sat nav until you ask for it and then they charge £300 for the sd card and disc, so Audi are worse you buy your car and spec sat nav then they charge £300 to activate it?

If your car is built after week 22 it includes the update as standard, we're on week 17 at the moment, doubt my car will be made in 5 weeks time so I should have the update as standard.
