VRS arrived... but with the wrong spec

Featured Replies

So our VRS arrived today, but it's missing the climate control and electric rear windows.

Dealer has been very apologetic, but we've not reached a resolution yet.

He has offered to refund the missing bits, obviously - but it's not what we wanted, and more specifically we wanted the rear leccy windows to stop small children from escaping (as they're lockable whereas the keep-fit windows aren't).

What would you do/expect in this situation?

We've obviously not signed anything yet, but I've transferred my funds already in readiness for pickup (before I knew it was all wrong!).

dont accept it as its not what you ordered.

new cars arent cheap and should be as we spec them.

Just refunding the difference isn't good enough. If you can live with the spec then get some freebies or free servicing. Dealer wont offer you much as they can put the preregistered car on the front and sell it for a profit.

Is the standard aircon totally manual? On the Mk1 Fabia the standard aircon is climatic and still maintains a steady temperature you set the temperature but have to manually adjust the fan speed and direction. It's a good system and I wouldn't miss the full climatronic system if the vrs has that. If it's fully manual with just a hot/cold dial then I'd probably stick out for another car.

If you wait for another car then at least you will get a MY12 with the black grill and lights.

Cheers

Don't accept it, it's not what you ordered get another one made and you want freebies for wasting your time

Reject it, it's not what you ordered.

just to echo everybody else...

Reject it and get what you actually ordered - oh and push for a loan car in the meantime. ;)

Need to establish who's at fault, the dealer or the factory.

Someone over on the Audi A1 forums had their car turn up with the wrong spec. They were allowed to keep the wrong car while they waited for another car to be built.

This is what you should push for with the dealer

If it's green and the price is right I might want it. lol. Trouble is, I probably wouldn't qualify for the cheap finance then as I guess it would be registered already.

the aircon is climatic anyway..... it maintains the temp you set (the standard system) for example been hot today, I've had it on 18 C and its been feeding the aircon in appropriatley....

Thanks for the responses.

It's extremely disappointing and ruins what would have been a very pleasant buying experience.

The problem was with the dealer, not Skoda UK.

Dealer suggested that he might be able to give me the car and let me use it while I wait for another one to be built with the right spec. I figure the 2nd hand prices are high enough for it to not cost them that much. In 4 months they'd have a 4 month old car with a decent spec and only 5000 miles on the clock.

I'd be happy enough with that, but not convinced it'll happen. He said he'd ring me today to confirm what was happening and I haven't heard anything...

I hope they sort something for you... I know its only climate control/rear electric windows but you ordered those for a reason... why should you have to miss out through no fault of your own? =/

that would be acceptable in my book... use the car that has arrived until one of the spec you ordered arrives.

Echoing everyone else but it is unacceptable and they are pretty big options to miss It's not exactly a glasses holder. If I was in your situation I'd expect to be able to use the wrong one until the one ordered was delivered and nothing else. Looking at used values they seem to be holding well so the dealer won't lose much.

Agreed! What a mess - letting you drive it while you wait for a new one, with the right spec, is the least they can do!

While disappointing your only options are to accept the car and work out a deal or wait for another. If the latter they should provide you a car either let you use this one or an agreeable substitute. I would want the car I ordered and push for some compensation e.g. a free service when due, not a deal on this one.

Pretty conslusive replys....if he starts to dither get him to put things in writing as by letting you drive the car that turned up you could have "accepted" it under contract law. May be best to write a letter to him and send by recorded post stating that the car is not as ordered (and why) and if he is letting you drive the car until you correct one turns up state this in the letter!! This is to put in writting the situation in a legal formal way!! You could also see your nearest Trading Standards unit as these are run by your local council.!! B)

Sorry to hear the news.

I would reject the car.

However if you felt you could live with it what about get the money back for the options and 2 years completely free servicing ?

Good luck.

I was due to pick up the car this evening, but no word yet on what the dealer is going to do about it. Have left the ball in their court.

Will keep you all posted as to what happens - hopefully anyone else who has the same/similar issue can get some use from this thread.

I'd reject it also. Climate control as an extra adds a little functionality/easy of use but makes the dashboard look better aesthetically. Rear elec as you say, is safety related and seems very important to you.

If you can keep that car for 4 months until you get the correct spec then this would alleviate the problem somewhat. Remember, the dealer is at fault and so are you. Don't sign anything until you're very sure.

Difficult one really. As you've probably waited so long for the car and was set on it having the extra bits its probably a real disappointment but to be honest I wouldnt write it off.

Lets face it....Climate Control, it looks nice but it's hardly essential, the standard Climatic is very good anyway. If the car didnt have AC as a result then yet i'd be absolutely fuming! Elec rear wins, again nice to have but sure you could live without them.

To be honest you could really hold the dealer over a barrel here, you could probably push for additional discount on the vehicle as well as a refund on the options, plus some accessories or free servicing. At the end of the day its still a vRS and if you reject the car you'll be waiting months again for another one. Rejecting it may be even more of a pain.

A similar thing happened to my Dad years ago. He ordered a Mk4 Golf GT TDi PD 115 6 speed as a company car, when it turned up it was a non PD 110 5 speed, otherwise was the same car. He was furious but in the end accepted the car. This is probably worse as mechanically it was inferior to the car he should have got but was still a lovely car and didnt regret his decision.

If you can play the situation to your advantage financially i'd keep the car otherwise throw it back at them and tell them to provide you with the right car but accept the fact you'll be waiting months for the replacement.

I have to say though this has worried me......just e-mailed my dealer to confirm the spec on our car just in case!!

i can understand why the leccy windows are important to you,

i would just echo what everyone else is saying to an extent.

reject the car for sure,

if they give u a courtesy car in the meanwhile then i would be happy(as it essentially means free motoring) but wouldn't be surprised if they offer u a lower powered car as a courtesy vehicle.

Good luck and let us know the outcome.

I'd be seeing what they are prepared to offer before making any decision, as said the Climatic is liveable with and despite having 2 kids I've never had them try to escape through the back windows!

Generations of kids never tried to escape. My dad just told me not to play with them.
