does the fabia vrs have launch control

Featured Replies

just readin a bit on the vw dsg box and read a bit on launch control available on some vw & audi models with the dsg box. So doe the vrs with the dsg box have this. Its not mentioned in the manual so i dont think it has.

yeah, you put it in sport and pres the loud pedal to the floor ! ;) TC and EDL do enough to launch it perfectly

in all seriousness, no dedicated "launch control".. no.

LOL took the words right out of mouth......

It's not mentioned in the manual for the Octavia either but my DSG box does have it. I don't know if the 7 speed DSG has it though

In mine, put the DSG into Sport or Manual, turn of the Traction Control, put left foor on the brake and floor the accelerator with your right foor. As i have a diesel, the revs hold at just over 2000 and when you let go of the brake the car goes for it. I suspect the petrol would hold the revs around the 4K mark...

The 6 speed DSG in mine is a different beast from the 7 speed in the Fabia though having dual wet clutches as opposed to dual dry clutches and can cater for a lot more torque than the 7 speed box can...

Put it into 'S' and floor the acclerator then smile as you watch the diesel octy vRS next to you disappearing in your rear view mirror....! :giggle:;)

To clarify it: NO, the 7-speed DSG does NOT have launchcontrol.

However, skip the TCS imo since it is taking away alot off the power!

all thats happening there is the same safety program thats on all VAG cars (and fiats and many others I suspect [but wasn't on toyota! lol..]) if the brake is pressed, the revs are limited, no matter how hard you press the gas (try it in neutral and it'll do the same) so in sport, your brake is on so the clutch is disengaged, and the revs are limited by the blanket safety program that limits revs with the brake on, and when you let go of the brake, the clutch engages, and the revs are let free as the safety limiter is released.... and off you go... its just the same as letting go of the brake and standing on the gas... (maybe a fraction quicker due to not having to move your foot over) all VAG cars with DSG will work this way....

Nope, no LC on the Furby VRS, although to be honest I think it would have been a bad idea to put it in. Off the line in Sport with no TCS on is more that enough... LC would just end in more of your tyres on the road and less left on the car :p

not really. less wheel spin = savings on tyre life

Realised the other night (by accident) that you can only rev to 4k sitting in neutral anyways. Not much of a launch control though.

The wife goes everywhere in " D " Mode, very boring emoticon-0144-nod.gif

i noticed on the motorway the otherday, when using the kickdown, it seems to do a sort of rolling launch controlled start..

was just messing about really, see what the kickdown is like.. (this was 6am on a sunday, on the way to work ¬_¬).. put my foot to the floor pretty quick, felt the switch go, and the car didnt just drop instantly, the clutch popped out, lowered the gears, raised the revs, then the clutch popped back in and you have power at your fingertips..

seemed to take 2-3 seconds for it to do it, i could notice everything the car was doing, but that may have been cos i was on an empty motorway at stupid o'clock on a sunday morning, everything seems to be in slow motion at times like that :dull:

.. but errr... no.. no launch control =]

blip the trottle a couple of times and she'll drop some gears, better than kick down

thats how i normally do it, its alot quicker too.. just had to see what kickdown was like, having done 700 miles and never actually pressed it :)

you can mod the dsg ecu to 2000-3000rpm idle speed (in S only) should work fine

Not completely correct there I'm afraid...

If I just put mine into S and hold the brake (with traction control on), then when I press the throttle the engine bogs down as the DSG engages.

If I put it into S and turn the traction control (so called launch control mode) off then I get the revs sitting at 2kish as the DSG stays disengaged when the throttle is pressed until the brake is released

If I put it into neutral, then the engine revs higher than if I've engaged the "launch control" but still well below the red line

As i said before, the two models of DSG are quite different but never having driven the 7 speed I didn't know if it had the same features as the 6 speed box that is in my Octy.

Launch control = more wheelspin not less......

The other day, I put the traction control off, then engaged S - tried launch control but the car bogged down.

Very tempted to go out and try the "other way" now.

Then it's pretty crap launch control. A proper LC system would launch the car with just enough slip to get best traction. That proper amount is very small indeed, you certainly won't be smoking the tyres.

please do, let us know if Raglits method works on the 7-speed...

I'm not gonna try as mine seems to launch perfectly, as I said in earlier posts, by leaving the electronics on and simply flooring it in sport..

NOTE: at a meet, we did back to back test with my vRS and another, and mine has conti's and his had dunlops, and mine worked at least 50% better than his... almost no wheelspin (slight chirp, the best F1 stye granny start) no bogging down , no excessive wheelspin, his ("can's" I think) was having much more issues with traction... conclusion, it had to be the tyres.. now mine are wearing (4 mill) they are starting to struggle in damp conditions...

indeed, a small "chirp" shows you are right on the limit of traction = best take off, no noise and "bogging down" looses power in is slower, too much wheelspin is simply wasting power

Launch control = more wheelspin not less......

:D Thats not launch control then is it? pmsl, the clue is in the name

Those dunlops are awful as soon as there worn i'll definitely be getting some conti's.

Well I've since done 4k miles on them and they are hardly wearing and still less than great of the line but I am getting better at juding how to feather the pedel to keep the traction control out of the way.

Also forget getting representative launch's untill the car has done a lot of miles.

launch control is there to make you get a faster launch, so if created more wheelspin it wouldnt work. think about it logically.

wheel spin = loss of power transfer to the ground = slower off the line because your stationary spinning your wheels.

A well setup launch control with the optimal revs to limit wheel spin as far as possible will equal earlier traction and a faster launch as you dont overcome the grip level of the tyres so much.
