The LED Lights Thread...

Recommended Posts

First things first, we want those old yellow bulbs out of the number plate lights right!?

Lets assume you are in fact super cool, you agree and you wish to continue... Please read on...

Start off by undoing the two screws in the bulb holder casing with your T10 torx driver...

I found it easier to remove the housing from the wiring, just pinch the two tabs on the connector and pull... heave-ho!

NP3-4.jpg

You will notice these arent any old led bulbs, they need extra resistors so that the on board computer canbus system will see some resistance and assume there is still a regular bulb there...

Now because of the resistors, this will cause extra heat, i bought a set with heat sinks on the resistors, just because we have a plastic housing!

So... easy job, one out one in!

Again these are polarity sensetive, so trail and error on installation, although i like the odds of 50/50!

NP4.jpg

Replace the wiring connector, housing, and the two screws and take a gulp of tea... then do it again for the second one!

I have left the sidelights on for about 3hours on the drive now, and no heat transfer issues, going to keep an eye on them for a little while longer and pop one out just to check.

i logged in just to see those pictures, very white, would have been good to do before and after as its a bit difficult to see what difference they've made

thanks very much for sharing

and the interior led's, do u think thy'll need esisteros, as led's are lower power cconsumption

The first shot is a 50/50... Right side photo is the Ultra bulb, left side photo is original bulb!

Definately need resistors on the numberplates, although they still light up without them, you would have errors on the dash.

Edit- Just read you asked interior, these dont need resistors, only external lighting need them!

Regarding led life after having them in my interior and exterior for over two years I've come to the conclusion that even though they can outlast standard bulbs sometimes they can just go bad just out of the blue. Either die or dim or strobe.

Just got my covers off so I can measure up my lights properly (Don't want to order and find I've bought ones that are all useless)

Word of warning kids, them light bulbs get VERY hot, as I've just found out the hard way

Well they all do, silly me put a finger on the longer interior ones to try and get them out.

Promptly burnt a finger doing so.

Have left it 10 minutes to cool down, going to fish them out now so I can get an order in and hopefully get them posted out today ready for tomorrow. I've got quite a big project doing tomorrow. :D
