  • Got mine fixed...well, I've found the problem. Had a wet floor in front drivers side and after sealing all doors (one of them 2-3 times) I've found the problem.   Here's how: Ripped out in

My Fabia went into the dealer today to get the door seals sorted. :D

Dealer knew exactly what the issue was the second I phoned him, and was very good about the whole thing.

Only had mine for a couple of weeks too was a bit gutted about the whole thing apart from, that can not fault the car in any other way.

I'm looking at attempting this fix but how do i actually remove the door trim? Is it screwed in/ clipped in? do i need any specific tools? Do i just try and pull it off the door?

Please help before i break something!

when it rains or i wash my car, my '56' fabia gets small puddles of water on my door sills.is this normal ?

It's briefly covered here -

Yes. The doors drain from the bottom.

Thanks Stu,

sorry, it is a bit brief!

What is a plastic trim tool?

Other than behind the armrest i cant see where else it could be fixed, as i dont have any speakers in the doors. In fact it looks one piece from the the top where the door handle is to the bottom with storage area.

Having changed the speakers on an old 106 i know the door trim fixings can be easily knackered!

Well having had both rear doors fixed for leakage recently (JCB Skoda Basildon), you can all imagine I was well impressed to open the rear o/s door to reveal water on top of the rubber seal at the bottom of the door aperture. To accompany this, I also have a nice soggy door card. FFS surely it is not beyond reasonable to expect this to have been fixed?

I wonder if it was door seal leaking on one side of the car and door liner on the other?

Chris

Have a look at the page again. I've updated it.

Oh ok, thanks Stu.

Sorry, i was just being abit lazy there! thanks for the info.

Had all 4 door seals replaced recently by the dealer (Autosales Bilston) and yet after the serious rain this weekend I find my passenger front and rear carpets are wet, not soaking, but there is definitely an issue.

Had a problem with the drainage hole under the bonnet being blocked, but that was unblocked and seems to be ok. Does anyone know if there are any other points of water entry that would manifest in the mentioned places? Recently had my water hose to the rear washer re-attached, so don't think it is that, plus I haven't used it.

Can't understand why is is still wet? Any suggestions?

Do you happen to know whereabouts it was reattached? There are two points where the hose can come disconnected that I know of: at the point where it enters the pump (i.e. in the boot lid), and under the trim that rises up behind the nearside back seat. The easiest way of telling if you still have a leak, however, is to see how far the washer spray goes up the rear screen. If it reaches the top, you're OK, but if it doesn't, then you've still got a leak... Not using it doesn't necessarily mean it won't leak, as the pump is at the opposite end of the washer pump from the reservoir, so everything between the two has the potential to leak out... :thumbdwn:

Also, did you use anything to soak up the water that had got in before the repair? I know from experience that it takes a few days to dry out if you put newspaper down underneath the mats...

Must say, wet carpets front AND rear is pretty bed - it's usually just the rears... :(

Had mine back for a week and a half now since getting all 4 door carriers resealed from dealer, it started to rain today and guess what water is still getting in.

Goes back in on Monday under warranty

Love this little car and it's teething problems. :D

You can tell we have had some rain, my rear drivers side has a damp carpet ,i only did the passenger side ,you know one of those jobs I'll do it one day its not that bad yet.

I had to do the passenger side twice ,the first time it was slightly damp and the silicone never dried properly, that sides been fine since.

I really was going to do it this week as I'm off work the trouble is once the seal gets wet its a waste of time trying to seal it from the outside,it took me a full day last time just to dry the door panel out with a hair dryer.

I found that pressing hard against the door carrier squeezed a few drops of water out - presumably from within the sealing material itself. Although it was only a tiny amount of water, it could well be enought to stop any sealant curing properly...

I share sam1973's experience. I have fixed the doors, the washer pipe and the under bonnet ventilation drain hole and still get saturated driver's side rear carpet, but not every time it rains badly.

Where else can this water be coming from? Only thing I can think of is some leak around a front or rear window or a hole underneath that floods when going through a puddle. Any ideas?

That's what i found ,when i was dying it out for the second attempt i kept pressing on it until nothing came out then dried it a little longer just to make sure.

Dealer took the car in and water tested it under their sprinkler system for a few hours, but couldn't get it to leak. Their response was, 'it'll have to be one of those problems that gets worse before it can get better' - not sure what to think at the moment.

will see how we go I guess - cheers ap0gee for the tip, I'll check it out

I was thinking about this logically and came to this conclusion.......

Water being held in the door to such an extent that it leaks out through interior seals (i.e. 50mm plus of water!! )

There must be an issue with the door drainage system! Perhaps the holes are getting blocked, or are too small? Has anybody checked the drain holes in the bottom of the doors?

I think the problem is that the drain holes are so close to the sill that the surface tension of the water prevents them draining properly. If you open the door after a rainy day, little streams will pour out of the holes as soon as the door's open far enough for the drain holes to be clear of the sills...

My fabia vrs had condensation problems everymorning how annoying!! esp when your running late for work. Got all my 4 doors done under warranty back 2 were leaking all fixed now though :)

Condensation could be because carpets were wet due to the leaks - I've found newspaper under the removable mats works a treat!

I don't like the idea of sealing the water in the door - not good for any electrical items/connections. It would be a better solution to make the drains work. Perhaps a small groove needs to be made under the drain holes if they are too close to the sill, or an additional hole that will drain if the others are covered up by the sill?

I have considered making hole in the bottom of the door seal, and pushing in a bit of small-bore rigid pipe. My thinking is that the reason water gets into the car is that it drips onto the top of the door seal and then has nowhere to go. Not sure my plan won't cause water to COME IN whilst driving, though, so never actually tried it...
