  • Got mine fixed...well, I've found the problem. Had a wet floor in front drivers side and after sealing all doors (one of them 2-3 times) I've found the problem.   Here's how: Ripped out in

With the rear windows wound fully up, stick electricians tape (preferably black) along the bottom of the window where it meets the outer door skin, this will prevent any more getting in until its fixed. Its working for me and you can hardly see it coz its black!

my wifeys 03 plate fabia had this, local skoda people gave her a set of instructions on how to fix it... its been a known thing for a while and its easily fixed. my 07 vrs has suffered no such fate (yet :o) -

Could you scan those instructions for us please? :)

I saw that one, but I would be interested to see official skoda blurb! :D

Fair enough, but the above method works!

Took mine to the dealer and was met by the bloke at the desk. I asked if i could speak to the guy who would be doing the work and was asked why? I said that i wanted him to explain to me how he was going to fix the fault and for him to answer any questions that i may have. The guy said that it could be anyone of 4 technicians so he couldn't get the one who'd be doing the work. I said that anyone of the 4 would do. He said that he could tell me how it would be done.

How hard is it to just have a conversation with the mechanic????????

Anywho, deskman told me how they would seal the doors so i asked him what they would do about the carpets. He said that they would vax them clean/dry. I said "What about the foam rubber underneath the carpets?". He said that should get dried from vaxing the carpets. I said that i'd heard of other owners getting their carpets replaced, he said that that only happens under a manufacturers warranty and not an extended warranty. We only fix the fault i.e the door seals, we don't fix carpets. I said "What? not even if the fault is a direct result of another fault?" He said, "No!"

Then he gave me an example, "If your alternator went and snapped the belt in the process, we would only replace the alternator, we would not pay for a new belt!".

So then i mentioned the seat belt not working and he said that they would fix that because it was 'safety' irrespective of whether it was caused by the damp.

So, 3½ hours later and the job was done, all 4 doors re-sealed and carpets vaxed. They will let me know when they have a new complete seatbelt in and will fit it for me. On the whole, fairly pleased as long as the doors have stopped leaking and the carpets dont go mouldy or the floor start to rot. Condensation seems to have stopped too!

I have had wet carpets many times. I have never had mould though as long as I used a wet and dry vac to suck out as much water as possible. Indeed the carpets are nice and clean now having been 'washed' so many times in this way.

has anyone actually had a dealer fix this problem under a extended warranty?

i know its fixable under skodas own warranty, but i know someone who has got a extended one, and they are saying its not going to cover it :(

extended warratnies dont cover leaks, the original 3 year one does, ive just had this out with my dealer!

Well known problem on all Fabia --mine is 04 and rears needed doing - dealer sort of admitted that up to 2007( 2007 ones had just come out -so no one knew) all were at risk - if carriers screwed on they replaced the seal: if carriers riveted on they used sealant -Plenty of posts on here on this and how to cure it .

Read my earlier post, #158 and you'll see they do fix it

I had to have mine done just before christmas and had to pay for it,cost me £93 ! not covered by Scoda extended warrenty.

Had to wait until Jan 10th for mine to get in. :thumbdwn:

The moisture trap is certainly help keep the screen clear despite being top-heavy and having a tendancy to roll around scattering crystals everywhere.

I've just acquired a '55 plate (still under warranty) which now has around half an inch of standing water in the rear offside footwell. Has anybody managed to get the carpet replaced as well as the seals repaired? Mine looks to be stained and who knows what lies beneath. I was not expecting this on a car of this age.

I havent experienced any leakage and the seals havent been replaced on my y reg 119000 mile classic mpi.

Looks like i am just really lmao.

I've developed a leak (rear, offside) on a 52 plate which doesn't appear to be soaking the carpet (yet) but leaves the bottom half foot of the door trim panel soaked right along it's length. Is that likely to do any damage to the car if I don't get it looked at?

It sounds like it isn't a big job to fix but I'd rather get it done by a pro. Would an average garage be able to correctly diagnose and fix the problem or do people think you should really get it done by a Skoda dealer (who are likely to be more expensive)?

Mine has been in the dealer today and has been diagnosed as.......

Yep, leaking door seals. Back in on Wednesday to be fixed.

They also cleared my exhaust control warning light. Apparently a less-than-optimal battery voltage can cause it. Left a torch on trickle charge in boot.

My '05 VRS is in at the dealers this saturday for them to have a look at my gear-box as when cold its notchy in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. But when I got home this evening I noticed that all the windows were steamed up (first time i've really noticed it), I checked the rear carpets under the floor mats and they were/are soaking. We've had really bad rain here for 2 days now so its probably what's caused it. I'm now hoping to have them diagnose it as the rear doors leaking this saturday and get a fix under warranty.

It's probably good that it happened this winter as its the last one covered by the 3 year warranty!

Mike.

I have this problem again on my nearside rear door after it was repaired (supposedly) under warranty in March 2006.

Booked in for repair tomorrow.

Just a reminder to anyone who is taking their car in for repair on the rear doors:

***Before you leave the dealers, check that your interior door trim is undamaged. Speaking from experience I have had 3 replacement panels following leaky door seals after the panels have before damaged following removal - usually come in the form of a tear ***

It is honestly a p1ss easy DIY job if you get the right tools to remove the door trim. Follow Stu's guide on Fabia-vrs.com. It is seriously foolproof. Dont' spend your money at a garage or a dealer.

All,

I've got some good news. While my fabia was in at D M Keith this morning I asked them to look at the rear carpets as I knew they were wet. They concluded that the door seals had gone in the rear and they want to re-seal all four doors as a preventative measure even though the front (as far as I can see don't leak). Their reasoning for the front doors was because although its more common to effect the rear doors it could effect the front ones later on (i.e outside my warranty which ends in April).

I hope that when I collect it next week it doesn't have 4 very rattly doors that will bug me something rotten! :)

Mike.

after reading all this, im getting our manager to put all our fabia's through the workshop to have the rear doors resealed before the skoda warranty runs out.

ive got one demo thats defo suffering from it, so badly in fact i cant drive it without wiping all the windows off!

I had the door carriers on my car repaired on saturday for the grand total of £44.00, and was prepared to pay that rather than risking doing it myself and creating rattles/marks.
