Shush it's a winter tyre thread :D

No I've not traded in the cube for squared just yet :giggle: however I've briefly fitted the winters and first impressions are favourable for the Hankooks (215/60 R16 99H XL) in at least there quieter than the summer Continentals. Running at temperatures of 13 deg I could not detect any change in handling characteristics, even with the winters set at the recommended 2.4 bar (+ 0.2 bar over standard).

Once I find some more challenging rubbish conditions I'll update all.

Thanks for the pic of your YETI - I have not fitted my set to my YETI YET i :giggle:

can't wait for the temp to drop

Mike

Hi TP

Just put the extra 0.2 bar (3psi)to 2.4(35psi) into the Goodyears. Blooming mild though, be a bit of an anti climax if by the end of March they are saying this has been the mildest winter since records began and we have been mowing the lawn and silaging all winter! :( :)

Cheers

At least you have a Yeti to put them on - I've still only got the Winter Tyres (currently without rims!) emoticon-0106-crying.gif

I only looked, because I was surprised somebody had bought a Yeti "E". :wonder:

Surprised somebody bought a Yeti E ??

After a six months wait for a red Roomster Auto and no hope of a delivery date, that was all that was on offer as a red Yeti

There were only two red Yeti's on the unallocated list at that time so it was an "E" or NO YETI

No longer a surprise!

Hi all,

little more feedback after the first run to work with the new rubber (36 miles of rural A road). This morning light rain and 10 deg, grip levels in the wet were far superior to the summer Continentals; felt very sure footed. Road/tyre noise can get a little more vocal than the first impression, however this rearlly only comes into play on the very roughest of road surface accompanied by a very low level vibration transmitted into the floor pan. Also noticed in one sharp bend on a down hill stretch that little more flex in the tyre side wall. However these last two points are not dissimilar to previous observations with Nokians used on the 140 Monster. 10 deg again coming home this evening but dry, again very happy so far and Fuel consumption wise the maxidot indications suggest an improvement around 2mpg. This could be down to the 2.4psi tyre pressures mind.

at least the yeti hasn't been whacked with the ugly stick like the Roomster :giggle:

I cant believe they're using the Roomster as a (styling?) basis for a Mk2 and a proper MPV.

If the school run mums are the Yeti demographic, is Stevie wonder the Roomsters? To me looks like a Fabia had an unfortunate accident.

This is a winter tyre thread remember, shouldnt your post be in the Roomster forum? or don't moderators have to follow the rules?

The offensive Stevie Wonder "joke" led me to ponder on what the octavia demographic is and I came to the conclusion that there isn't one! - just a case of the bland leading the bland. lol

we just wandered off topic for a bit, my fault for calling the roomy ugly. But if this is a winter tyres thread it needs to be in the tyres section. There are winter tyre threads popping up all over the place in the Octy and Furby sections, the mods can't keep up I suspect

Hey! Since the weekend the section has been returning to what it used to be-a bit off topic, a bit light hearted and with no aggressive/provocative posts-don't start poking mods who are posting in that spirit :wonder:

The roomster falls into the deliberately ugly mode of design. I have a sneaky regard for that as an ex-Fiat Strada owner who was strangely attracted to the original Multipla.

Just a bit of banter. I did note that things were returning to normal after a strange few days! The Roomster is unusual but not ugly - imho of course. :D

I know I saw one the other day in a kind of darker aqua blue and it actually looked quite good - but now that someone has mentioned the multipla the roomster looks positively gorgeous :giggle:

Love the new look yeti plumber. How much did the wheel trims cost? Wouldnt mind them for my when i get them.

I see you have went for the 215/60/16 this time. I have spent most of my spare time this week phoning skoda dealers and tyre fitters and as expected some are advising 215/60/16 saying that 205 is to much of a step down. Sherlodge said to use 205/55/16.

I am aware both will work fine just unsure which to go for. The 205 seem to have more choice. Been pricing 205/55 goodyear ultragrip 8128 fitted and 216/60 vredestein wintrac4 i think it was for 144. How much were the hancooks? They were recomended by skoda inverness. Tried skoda uk but no comment. I seem to no more about it than most skoda staff thanks to this forum! So much confusion over such small detail. Do you prefer your 215s plumber?

Hi Andy,

went for the 215 this time as my Monster as you may well know is a Special Build with this size tyre as standard ;) plus I cannot envisage needing to fit snow chains. The 205/55 is the official winter size on a 16" rim for a Yeti and no surprise Sherlodge recommended it if they know what their on with re tyres for a Skoda. Having driven the Yeti on both sizes of 16" winter now, there's not much in it; probably the 215 just edges it in terms of handling particularly when it's warmer.

The Hankooks are good in the coolish damp weather we have had round here, not tried them in snow. Can get a little noisy on rough surface dressed roads but only a minor issue. Bought mine from Camskill at a very reasonable £78 each delivered. The Yeti 'E' Rif trims I've had since 2009 and cost then an eye watering £90 from memory :o good quality mind and they look the part

Oh when I rang SUK in 2009 re winters for a Yeti, they advised me to ring Kwikfit;as they knew nothing about tyres :o :o :giggle: Hence how I became a Yeti tyre and rim anorak

The Goodyear winters are supposed to be very good, my son has their Vector 4Season on his Fabia I; stick to the road like glue.

Oh again remember to make sure you get a min load index of 94 as your new monster is a 4x4; quite a few places will try and sell you the 91 as it's more common but no good for you.

Regards and I hope of help,

TP

HI Andy

Good to see you are getting sorted.

I have the 215/60 GW3`s with 99 rating (might be 98 ? TP?)as worn by the Great Dane who we have not heard from for a while (Agerbundsden) sorry if spel wrong

Seem great but not cold yet!. Gave them a wuz on sweeping road today much driven by Bob Dog overt moors Keighley to Hebden Bridge dry conditions and fairly fast held road well.

Should be just the job for your part of the world spent many happy times up in Peterhead and have some friends who live down a lane beside a loch near Collieston near Newburgh. You can cop some serious snow on that coastline let alone inland on the main road.

All the best after your trials and tribulations.

Cheers

Would think the ice cream rating  most winter 215/60 R16 are with the addition of XL (extra load)

So you reckon go for 215? Wanted the ultragrip 8 as cheaper. I have 2 brand new 17 inchgoodyear vector 4 seasons that just did a few hundred miles i will have to sell them.

I am not far from peterhead about 35 49 mins inland on the edge of the grampian mountains near inverurie and we normally get alot of snow and frosts. What are gw3s? Nokians? Im away to check whats available in 215 with correct load index. The guy has the 205 ultragrips and can get me 215 vredestein.

Lot of snow, then daft question time? ever needed chains then :wonder: Sold the ones I had form a trip to the Alps to a forum member up there. If the answer is yes then it has to be 205's.

Oh Nokians are good, had the WR G2 in the 205/55 size, emoticon-0106-crying.gif far to expensive and difficult to get hold of this time round.

TP

Alot of snow and drifts i stay in the countrysides where the gritters dont venture much. Wont need chains. Guess that makes the choice easy 215.

I never missed a days work last year working doing a kitchen 50 mins west on a farm in royal deeside i made it in my berlingo with coopers sailing through the drifts. That ment the tyres paid for themselves in a day or 2 even tho the journey took 2 hours each way! Thats commitment or maybe madness. I guess everyone has a favourite brand but im sure most do the job. My dad just bought general grabber ats for his new tourag . I think they are more of an offroad pattern. He used to clock 100 - 120 000 miles a year in his toyota landcruiser 4.2 when he ran his building company and farms and he swore by b f goodrich mud terrain for fields/building sites and snow although they were noisy. He thinks i should get general grabbers not sure of them tho as he just got them

Camskill currently have the Goodyear GW3 (highly rated) in 215/60 99HXL for £108.30

My link

mytyres are asking a whopping £232.70 for the same tyre :o :o :o

TP

Great link ta! Not sure local guy woul fit tyres if he doesnt supply?? Love the dunlop 4ds they get great reviews to. Camskill seems cheap!

Hi

Having viewed lots of good comments on here I fitted a set of Goodyear four season tyres 3 weeks ago. I am pleased with them so far no more noise and handling feels the same as the original Pirelli Pezro (22500 miles).Hoping I will not get to use them for real but a least I will be prepared .Managed to get car stuck across the road last year I was only trying to back into my drive with a slight rise in the pavement so much for modern low profile tyres.Hopefully Somerset will be spared the chaos of last year.

Brian

Just fitted the steelies and 215/60-16 Vred Wintrac Extremes

Wheels look a bit odd, so I've just ordered the same "E" trims from Skodaparts (Bikerton) - where I got the steeloes from.
