Des - It's All Your Fault !!!

Featured Replies

Bumped into Des round at Impossible on Saturday... I only went to have a look at the ABD stuff.... look what happened:

abd_induction.jpg

OH MY GOD!

Now i've had induction kits on most of my performance cars - but I have never seen or heard anything like this!! It actually sucks in small animals and pedestrians as you drive along (well it feels like it anyway!). It is fantastic!

The car now pulls much stronger - must be the combination of the decat and the induction kit but it goes like stink!

Like I said i've had some kits before but this is LOUD. I've decided to not even bother fitting the Hybrid BOV now as this kit actually sounds louder than most BOV's i've heard! What an addictive noise!

The 3" ducting feeds air up from a mesh-cone filter which is located below the headlight - just above the lower right vent. The filter is an absolute work of art - shame it's hidden.

I thoroughly recommend checking this one out and at 175 squids inc VAT it's got to be bargain of the month?

Thanks for fitting it btw Des :D Now about that front mount we were discussing.........

Looks nice, when do we get a movieclip with the 'improved' sound Dave?

It has to be said that it looks f**king awesome. I would love to hear what it sounds like now.

Pretty sexy!!!:D I just discovered how much noise an induction kit makes myself =) I think it sounds the coolest and deepest sound is around 1500rpm. I would imagine mine is a little bit louder as the filter is closer to the bonnet. Somehow my fuel consumtion wen't up dramatically after installing it. Might be due to the addictive sound =) Screw eco-driving, I wan't to see people turning their heads when I pass by(not only 'cause I look so good :D:D

Looks nice Dave, not sure what I'm looking at, but it does look nice :)

On the sort of noise subject, does it always have to be noisy? Or in other words, could I have the same upgrade fitted but without the noise?

Q - it's an induction kit like the one's you see in other pics - apart from the actual filter is on the end of that silver duct pipe, which locates it nearer the cold airflow (and away from the heat of the engine bay) by the front bumper

You can have the same kit fitted with a K&N filter - which I would imagine is quite a lot quieter - the mesh one I went for is particularly thin and that's where the sound comes from.

K&N/green etc are paper/foam based which would deaden some of the noise from my experience.

I haven't got a digital camcorder unfortunately but i'll try and borrow a digicam which does video off someone tonight.... :D

Dave, you live so close to me, I really just need to come down a day and have a listen myself :D

It's pretty smart placing the filter down there. I am going to put some kind of pipe from the front spoiler vent to my filter myself. I wonder if that long pipe you have, have any effects on airflow, etc?.

Dave or Des,

Do you have a part number for this?

And for the filter you used, quite like the idea of a quiet filter, I'll never use it but I like the idea!

You can buy me one for a Fabia if you like... :D

hehe well I got an APr switchable chip so I could switch for motorway driving, Town driving or when SWBO takes it out...suffice to say it does not get switched alot, but in its defence I do switch it alot when I have/don't have optimax in it.

The "switching" filters I thought might be nice if you had to go on a 100 mile round trip or to a wildlife park :)

That looks really impressive, Dave! I bet you are glad you didn't meet Des in a Toys'R'Us car park or your car would probably be sporting pedals and a rubber bulb air horn instead.

He'd have to drive a long way to the nearest Toys R Us ;)

Sure, it looks luverly. However with my grumpy old git head on I have to say that to me, an air filter is not for making a noise, but for FILTERING CR*P OUT OF THE AIRFLOW :nono:

You have to compromise between nice noises (if that's your thing) and a filter that actually does some filtration. Me, I want my engine to last as well as go fast.

There is nothing wrong with being a grumpy old granny ;), I too would like my upgrades to be silent... but only cos I fear SWMBO's wrath more than life itself :D

Hi Dave

Hope you didn't scare any body on the way home Saturday, that filter even surprised me.

Really glad you liked it. I must admit I was a bit disheartened when we first heard it out side the unit but when we went out and played I couldn't believe we got all that noise out of a little 2" filter, only joking. If someone out there has a louder filter it can't be road legal. You had the last one so I couldn't even have one myself.

Your RS did feel quicker with the filter on, I think we hit 140 as apposed 130ish before on that stretch of (private) road.

As for the FMIC you'll be in a queue for that mod, everyone want's one.

Did you know we did 2 Nos kits when you left, has the world gone mad.

I'm chuffed for ya Des. :D

 There were so many cool toys in the warehouse you don't know how close it was - almost had neons, shift lights, turbo timer, rear wing etc....

Nick - you have to hear it going - all your worries would go out the window!

You should have seen peoples reactions in the multi-storey I parked in this morning - purposely making it pshhhhhhht at full volume frightens the life out of people :vamperic:

What warehouse? You mean there are places that sell real performance upgrades? From the shelf?
