I just got a phone call from my mate......

Putting a silver stripe up your bonnet is "quite unbelievable"' date=' setting off in second gear is really quite simple. Disengage asr, engage second gear, get clutch to biting point, wait for start/traffic lights to change, press the torque pedal whilst engaging the clutch and voila - the car is moving and in its power band quicker than you can say "silver stripe on my bonnet please stevie:cool: "

[/quote']

That's mockery. You're mocking me, and that's not cool. I din't say I don't believe you, in fact, I said that if you say so then I believe you.

'Unbelievable' doesn't mean I don't believe you, it means it is quite 'remarkable' (to put in simple terms so that you don't misunderstand me next time) that you can take off so quickly on a gear lower.

Nice one. Hope you felt good being an addition to the people who like to mock others.

I dont feel good Mil, I stuck up for you in another thread where you took an undeserved verbal tw@tting.

It was your use of the word "unbelievable" which is the same as "not believable".

Astonishing could be used instead of remarkable, or why substitute words at all, and say what you mean.

I kinda like the silver stripe, ive got one too.

The 300ZX is a beautiful car, and it is very fast! Heavy though...that's prolly why you din't feel it as fast.

I forgot to mention that his cat was ****ed, and the car felt like it was running on 2 cylinders when i hit kickdown. :D:D

But i was well ****ed off, because i would have loved to see it go running over 300bhp. Ah well, i will just have to wait until its fixed. Such a waste sitting in his drive.

Oops, have i started a row. I have to agree with Mil. The Furby's first gear would have to be incredibly short for it to be quicker to 60 by starting in second than in first. I don't doubt it, but it would be interesting to see how little difference there is. Maybe you could do a little experiment on a private road and let us know. I may try it myself later.

By the way, this isn't a witchhunt for Fabias, more of a I'll have to see that to believe it to Diesels in general.

That reminds me, i will have to turn the tuning box up another notch. :D

I wasn't putting you down here. It IS unbelievable that you can do those times with a heavy weight diesel, STARTING from 2nd gear. 'Unbelievable' isn't a bad thing, I use it when it is, like you say 'astonishing'. Maybe my choice of words was wrong.

Sorry about that, but I do believe you, as I quote myself :

...but if you say you can, then I most definitely take your word for it

Maybe I should have put a smiley next to week..then it would have stood out more.

So you really have a stripe?? Can I see a pic? Because I was gonna have mine removed, but it's starting to grow on me...

This is my stripe, took me ages. Used 18 tins of primer. Took me ages to kipper up the grill at the front. Must have put 200kgs on the sprung weight. Do you like my "brows".

Hope you have a sense of humour Mil, i'm only messing mate

a quick explanation or torque. An engine with 100lbs torque at 1000 revs and another with 50lbs torque at 1000 revs, the second with have half the torque and thus have half the exeleration and half the bhp.If the secong engine had 50lbs or torque at 2000 revs, the engine would have half the turning power but at twice the revs therfore would have the same bhp and would exelerate the same because it would be pulling half the gearing hope its helps i cold explain really good if i had not hit the bottle after a bad round of golf lol

But cars dont have fixed rpm engines. And the 50lbs@2000 engine will take longer to reach 2000rpm so will accelerate slower until it gets to 2000rpm

It's the amount of torque available in a wide rev range that will help straight line accelleration. if you need to get to 6000rpm to have the same amount of torque as an engine that delivers it at 3000rpm then the lower revving engine will accelerate quicker IF it can hold the torque long enough, which is why diesels don't often have comparible 0-60 times.

Thats how I see it, wrong as I could be...

you are right. I was doing the fixed revs to make it easy to understand

if you have to get to 6000 holding the same torque you are gaining in bhp every rev

if you have to get to 6000 holding the same torque you are gaining in bhp every rev

WHich is why you want a high revving engine with a high, flat torque curve! :D

Oh really? I like that...flat out...'You're wrong'. Let the specs speak for themselves.

Mil Mate' date=' that's the JDM (import) CTR you're refereing to there, which is slightly different to a UK CTR (LSD, different manifold, also runs on 100 ron fuel). They are 212bhp, but UK are 197 bhp.

BUT, I agree with you on the vRS subject, as most people on here refer to them keeping up with the odd CTR (which was more than likely being driven by a muppet. A Chipped vRS won't be MILES behind a CTR upto 100mph (about 4 car lenghts IMO), but will certainly not be snapping at it's heals. What's the fastest Chipped vRS's 1/4 mile time on here (ie Santa Pod, not Elvington or Bruntingthorpe). Because from what i've seen they struggle to break the into the 15sec barrier. Where as a standard CTR with the right driver will be able to do 14.5-8 @ 97mph without to much bother. I know cause that's what mine did.[/quote']

No offence mate, but i do love it when poeple who werent there at the time pipe up and say it can't be done, or the other driver was a muppet etc. You need an Octavia Vrs mate then you will be amongst friends.

Its an open forum and as far as i can see Vtec Abuser made a valid comment.

So what's your problem???

JD

I've owned a CTR and Ibiza PD130 (essentially the same as a Furby vRS) and have followed Josh's Furby a few times and I've gotta agree with vtec abuser. Driven properly the CTR will have a remapped Furby vRS in a straight line, not by a mile but will get the better. Throw in some twisties and it's bye-bye Furby.

Oh for the love of whatever, does all of this matter. They're both great cars!

Of course it doesn't matter but a discussion forum would be a bit boring without discussion!

Its just that the CTR i was referring to belongs to a mate of mine, and he isn't a muppet. Yet again, because mine is a Furby, and only Octavias are allowed to be fast here on Octavia.net, it just gets on my tits. Obviously there is something wrong with his CTR.

I think Josh had a play with a CTR once, IIRC he could stay with it to an extent but the CTR was faster.

Wahay.Swear filter forgot a rather obvious one :D

Forgotten what the thread is now

I don't think an Octy vRS with just a remap would beat a CTR either.

Go remapped Matiz!! :D
