Tyres

Featured Replies

This has probably been done to death but I've tried searching and gone through a few threads but can't find my answer.

My VRS came with nasty, understeery, noisy budgets which are completely hopeless at clearing any sort of moisture.

I want to replace all 4 tyres. I have a budget of about £400 but could rise by another £100 if need be.

What are peoples reccomendations in this price range?

Anybody know of any deals on at the minute?

Thanks

I have Continentals. They are good and supplied by Skoda as original equipment on my 2011 vrs estate.

They come out at about £600 fitted. A bit outside your stated budget.

When I replace my tyres I will buy Falkens They also fit within your stated budget. Maybe worth a look.

Good luck.

I have Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas which were far better than the Continentals I had on before - more grip, quieter and far more durable. As they are a mid price tyre they should easily come in your budget - I had a pair fitted for £239 just before Xmas from an online supplier, may be able to get a better deal elsewhere on a full set.

Uniroyal Rain Sports, made by Continental

Awesome in the dry, even better in the wet

heard a couple of good reports about the vredstiens. if you do use an online supplier try and find where they are fitted and give them a call. telling them that your were looking at them through whereever.com and this is the price, chances are they will beat it

Try camskill for tyres and then get a local garage to fit for you.

Another vote for Uniroyal Rain Sports.

I also had cheap 'ditch finders' that were scary in the wet and after lots of research decided on the Uniroyals. They are fantastic tyres and I paid about £111 each fitted by Event - http://www.event-tyres.co.uk/

They gave a good service and offer a discount if you buy 4 tyres

Hope this helps

thanks for the replies, plenty to consider.

Ideally I would go for the conti's but they're a little over budget. I found Falken Ziex ZE-912 for a good price and they have relitavely good online reviews so I might go for them.

I ran ze912's for a while and they were fine.

...of your opinion :dull:

If you are really on a budget but want reputable tyres I suggest Barum Bravuris 2. Owned by Continental as said in every thread. I got mine via mytyres and chose National Tyres as the fitter. £360 for four all in.

I'm happy with mine, 225/45/17, so far but admit I do not drive at the limit.

Just out of curiosity what are the budgets you have fitted?

I'm in the same position, the car came fitted with four brand new budgets called Evergreen, fitted for £70 each.

To be fair I've been running them since October and have been suprisingly impressed.

TBH I'm not sure what is on it at the minute, I did look but wasn't familiar with the brand so forgot as soon as I walked away (I must have fallen on my head a few times when I was growing up, my memory is awful!!) :D

I've had Ultrac sessanta tyres on my last 4 cars, the best tyres I've had, I can't see past them and will continue buying them in the future.

Very grippy, in all weathers other than snow, my last car was a BMW 330D running about 270bhp through the rear wheels and I couldn't even get out of my drive on the vredesteins, dunno if any other summer tyre would have been much better so can't make a comparison for winter use.

The latest Conti Sport Contact 5 are only £116 on Camskill. Factor in £30 ish for fitting and you are within your higher budget. The Goodyear Asym 2 are the same price and would be my choice and will be come the spring.

Likewise - gy asyms for me next.

Good tyres but wear quickly in my experience. They're also more expensive than they used to be.

When i bought my vRS back in 2008, it had Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres fitted, which lasted well but I thought were very noisy, When the time came to change them, I fitted a set of Conti Sport Contact 3s which were quieter but didn't last as well.

I have just had a set of Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2s fitted on the strength of some good reviews in the press and positive comments on here. They seem to be slightly quieter than the Contis, but time will tell how long they will last.

My days of 'driving like I stole it' are long passed, but the car feels secure on the road in both wet and dry conditions and although I haven't explored the limits of the handling, they feel fine to me.

I paid £110 per tyre fitted and balanced at my local tyre fitters, which was slightly cheaper than the Conti SC3s.

Not really a fair comparison I know, but I had Falken 452s on my Z3, which were fine tyres for the price and suited the car well, but I couldn't comment on how they would fair on a vRS.

£600 - Where did you get them from?!

I have paid no more than £130 a tyre fitted.

Conti, Michelin, Vreds and Barum are meant to be good.

My local tyre wholesaler who kwik fit and most garages buy from are doing Conti sport 5 225/40/18 for £110 fitted

think this is what i will be purchasing next, the rainsport2's are good but flex to much for my liking.

Don't buy the 912's if you're going for Falkens, get the FK452.

I've run 452s on my BMW for about four years now and am about to purchase another four, they really are an excellent tyre.

Because of my good experience with the 452s I went to get a pair for my wifes old Fabia but they don't do them in the correct size so I went for the 912s. Big mistake. Felt ok in the dry and actually not too bad in the wet but were bordering on dangerous when it was damp. They inspired zero confidence. Avoid!

Get yourselves some 50 quid budgets, You have ESP/ABS What more do you want? Stabilisers? Lol ;-)

I am a big fan of Toyo T1Rs. Great grip wet or dry.

I've got Maxxis MAZ1 all round. Been perfectly good in all weathers for the last 18 months as good or better than the Contis and Avons I had previously. Look like getting 17-20k out of the fronts. £86 a corner fitted when I got the rears done last year.

Thats what I fired on my spare wheel :D:thumbup: £45 fitted fingers crossed it will NEVER be used so wasnt spending big bucks on it!
