Skoda Yeti GAP insuarnce

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to post, but everyone here is so knowledgable and helpful!

With a new Yeti due next week, I'm pondering Gap Insurance. Anybody any opinions on this? And know of any good providers? Skoda offer it, but it seemed a tad expensive at £350. Have yet to choose somebody to do the normal insurance (quotes range from £2,600 down to £400) so I'm not sure what "gap cover" I'll be getting there.

Get it online - Click4gap or Ala are the most used ones on here.

Don't have it myself, although it's possibly a good idea and yes you can find it much cheaper elsewhere but you need to understand the small print get out clauses and that there's a number of different types of GAP insurance. Gooling will throw up a few links.

I got mine online - way cheaper than that offered by dealer. However you are correct in that a few "normal" insurers do offer it inclusive for say the first year. The gap insurers sometimes offer a delay in invoking it to cover that instance. I think it is a very worthwhile insurance when one considers the fast early depreciation of any new car.

If your lucky enough to be 50 or over Saga Car Insurance give you 2 years free GAP if you are the 1st registered owner of the car

What the heck is 'gooliing?' :giggle:

 oops

Have a look at "moneysavingexpert" and what he says about GAP Insurance.

Thanks all, will check your recommendations, but off to hit the sofa now :)

I went withnone of the companies recommended on here. Can't remember which section it was in but it wasn't in the yeti section (gap cove is available for other models too)! :p I think it was surf protect I used. There might even have been a forum discount but can't remember for sure. It was much cheaper than the SUK scheme though. Dealer tried to match it but skoda couldn't get low enough in the end.

I got my GAP insurance fropm the Skoda Dealer. Paid £399. Yes its expensive, but you'll feel pretty sick if the car gets written off, or stolen, and your Insurance only pays you, say, 70% of retail value two weaks after driving it out the dealership. Where you going to find the other 30%? I got my dealership to let me see the full insurance contract in advance so had a chance to view small print as the devil is always in the detail and policies can vary. Hopefully you won't need it, but........

Wish you lots of safe driving.

Less than half that price at ala.co.uk and you can choose back to invoice or vehicle replacement if for example you got a large discount on your car and then in 2 years time it would cost £5k more than you paid, this would pay out for a replacement to the same spec as the one you had.

Just quoted a £25k car covering £15k over 3 years and that comes out at £168. Reality is you i doubt you would need £15k of cover. You need to work out what you think your car would be worth in 3 years time and cover the difference.

You also get 11% cashback with Ala on quidco ;)

It's a bit like Dogging but different

I'm under the impression there's no benefit to 'cash back' other than it saves the seller from having to visit the bank to pay in any cash payments they've received? :wonder:

eh? www.quidco.co.uk enables you to click through and get cash back so if your gap is £150 you will get £16.50 paid into your bank account after a couple of months.

I have earned £1000 cashback in the last 4 years..

I spent some time looking at GAP cover, with the dealership telling me better to pay £400 and get it from them, rather than a dodgy company off the interweb, but when i looked into the internet all the companies were FSA approved, and backed by big UK based insurers, whereas the dealer cover had nothing to do with skoda, or VAG and when I researched the backers they were small foreign banks with hardly any info available on them. I decided to save the £250 extra and get mine online, dealer prices for these products is well known to be one of the biggest rip off's when buying cars.

Regarding insurance, don't forget to take advantage of the free 7 day skoda insurance, came in useful for me when my insurance provider managed to get the wrong reg when changing the policy, meaning I could have spent a few days driving around in a £20,000 uninsured car if not for the free cover!

Will certainly take advantage of that - just got the reg number so will call Skoda tomorrow to get that set in train.

My real "headache" at the moment is trying to compare different insurance company's offerings to decide which one to go with. On price it's looking like a choice between DirectLine and Churchill, but I'm sure other policies will have better T&Cs. Decisions, decisions, decisions! I should have stuck with the pushbike :)

When I took that 7 day free insurance from Skoda insurance they rang me to see if I wanted to extend it. They ended up making me an unbelievable offer I could not refuse. I even curtailed my existing insurance to take up the offer. They warned me that it was a big intro discount and that on renewal I would not get quite the same deal. They charged me (in May 2011) £217 fully comp for 12 months for Husband and wife driver on our Yeti 170 Elegance. It is worth asking them.

Just renewed with direct line as they were by far the best deal on offer. I've also had to use them for a claim before and they were really good

My Renewal went up by 25% from Skoda for my 2nd year. It was still cheaper than everybody else I tried including the site sponsors.

Some companies would not even quote me. :(

Direct Line are quoting £301, Churchill £245 - however I confess I'm not sure if that's like-for-like (e.g. on excesses) as Churchill were the first company I rang and I wasn't sufficiently clued-up to know what questions to ask. I must call them back. I did read the policy documents from both companies and they are, near as damn it, identical! Turns out they're both owned by RBS Insurance. Both consider optional extras (front parking sensors, electric seats, TPM etc) as "modifications". It's not clear if this causes any premium hike. Unfortunately both quotes include a new-customer discount so that'll be a minimum 20-25% increase next year!

Saga offered £443, but it was unclear what car they were quoting for as the Yeti Elegances in their list didn't have engine sizes! They on the other hand didn't care about the optional extras I've ordered. Nor do they mind that I'm thinking of doing voluntary work at the National Trust - DL (and I imagine Churchill) does, and that will almost certainly bump the premium.

Admiral quoted £725 but I was losing the will to live by then so I can't remember what their T&Cs were.

Tesco quoted £1448, John Lewis £1453 - neither of these two were interested in offering me any discount for having a good company car driver record (DL and Churchill will), but they seem a good bit more expensive anyway. I might have expected that from JL, but was surprised at Tesco.

Haven't tried Skoda - anybody know if they offer good rates to insure their own product?

Hi I am with morethan £245 for my 1.2tsi me main driver and swmbo as well, then when my 110 arrived and on informing them no extra cost and no cost for the paperwork or factory fitted options well happy with them, and I'm sure they give new price pay out for the first 2 years of the cars life (to much small print to read through now) but I seem to remember it mentioned on the phone nearly a year ago now, (due for renewal next month :| ) will see if it has gone up much soon

Just renewed with direct line for £208

For me the answer was definitely yes - Skoda (Allianz IIRC as with all VW group insurance) beat everyone out of sight - £250 in 2010 for a CR170 and still under £300 at renewal this year.

Skoda GAP insurance was also at a good rate. Can't immediately see the paperwork but from memory it was £200ish after some negotiation.

Edit: Just found the paperwork: This year's renewal was £287 from Skoda/Allianz and the GAP (return to invoice value) was £195

Strange ... Skoda turns out to be one of the more expensive for me! £520 (versus £246 from Churchill).

Haven't got around to gap insurance yet, sigh.
