The Twins. (And Yeti RS)

Featured Replies

I had 40kg spare. :)

1960kg total.

Fortunately Brian James trailers tow very well, even when it's rather windy.

Blimey :o The advised safe caravan weight is 1325kg so you were a tad brave there!

Edit: Forgot to put what I'd come here for, the leather looks fantastic

I was of the impression MPTLM is 4080kg, that is a maximum for the Yeti of 2080kg and maximum tow weight at 2000kg, I would have said you were well under, damper vans are empty boxes with light air cooled engines.

Looks impressive though! Yeti to the rescue lol

Information for weights and measures HERE

I'm intrigued where you get that figure from.

Even using the 85% guideline it is more than that for the 140 or 170 diesel.

2080kg x 85% = 1768kg.

Got it from here Graham http://www.towcar.info/advise.php

1768kg is still quite close to 1960kg but it's only a guideline I suppose.

Less than 2,001kilo and you can tow it, the 85% rule is years out of date and modern cars with all the stability programmes and the modern caravans with fancy chassis and stabilisation not to mention the braking performance, why would you only tow 85% of what you can legally tow?

James you're making it sound very simple but it's not.

The MAM of both car and trailer/load combination cannot exceed 3500kg

The Yeti weights 2080kg, plus trailer/load of 1960kg is 4040kg, so 540kg overweight.

Or am i being thick?!

u Gross vehicle weight 2080 kg compare.jpg Max towing weight - braked 2000 kg compare.jpg Max towing weight - unbraked 750 kg

Gross vehicle weight, 2080kg

Maximum tow weight, braked 2000kg

= 4080kg is this not the maximum weight from the figures above?

3500kg is the maximum legal combined weight limit from what I can gather. Anyway, Richard won't appreciate his thread being filled with trailer talk so I shall bow out of this one here.

Just been out and checked the weight plate at the bottom of the drivers B post (I cleaned the car today!"!)

Kerb weight 2050kg

MGTW 4050kg

So we are all wrong!!

85% = 1742.5kg

Personally I would probably go up to 90% and I've been towing for ???? years. I have towed at +100% with a Freelander and I wouldn't do it again!!

It's a bloomin minefield, the regs are confusing to say the least!

Richard, one thing fotos cannot convey, how does it smell like? :)

I love the smell of new leather in a car!

It's quite nice getting into it, smell reminds me of the Range Rover. :)

Didn't used to get that before.

Just catching up... looks great - the quality of the stock leather being below par imo so thats a very nice investment indeed. :)

I do not think it is an ivestment as I doubt it will be possible to recover the money invested at the selling time. That's the general problem with car modding, with few exceptions you just throwing away money. Still, If I had it I'd retrim my vRS in no time :D

It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside when I drive it. That's a good investment in my book. :D

Yup, profit is not limited to £££. Something we have been trained to forget.

Update from the latest Briskoda event I attended in the Yeti.

Bedford Autodrome, MSV How Fast?

A Yeti in it's natural enviroment...

Pictures kindly supplied by Brimma. :)

Video from James I as he was tailing me in his Fabia mkII VRS.

Overall another great day and the Yeti performed amazingly bagging 5th spot out of 16 Skodas to attend.

As usual, it was the only Yeti to attend with most of the other cars being either Fabia or Octavia VRS versions.

A nice pic of the Yeti, doing the job of all round practical car with it's housemates. :)

I though you had sold the vRS....

I did.

I liked the colour so I bought another. :bandit:

(after I bought a black one, then realised I should have bought another Race blue...)

You don't want to know what goes on in my head. :giggle:
