VRS PD Diesel 'Choking'

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have an 07 reg Octavia VRS Diesel (PD). For over a year now, the engine is choking - it feels like it is 'misfiring' and there is a noticable drop in performance. This is particularly noticeable in wet weather, when it is almost certain to occur.

My local Skoda garage has looked at the problem, and suspected a faulty lamda sensor which was replaced. This did not resolve the issue.

Subsequently, I have also had all of the fuel injectors/pumps replaced (fortunately under a recall/'campaign'), a cambelt change and regular services replacing all filters.

Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this, or have experienced anything similar?

Many thanks

Alex.

Try unplugging the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. It's on the pipe after the air filter housing.

If there is no noticeable change in how the engine runs/performs then that's likely your answer there.

Many thanks Phil,

I will give that a go.

Cheers

It will also leave you with a warning light on the dash/error code after it has been run unplugeed which will need to be reset via VCDS.

was your fuel filter replaced during your services? as mine had

similer symptoms once it became clogged

I've just chnaged my MAF on exchange (about £65 + £25 old part return deposit) and it helped with an issue that sounds a lot like yours.

Also worth checking as stated are the fuel filter and getting the EGR/Intake manifold cleaned out. On the PD 170 be careful cleaning the manifold as there are swirl flaps that can be easily damaged.

Thanks for all the advice. I got the MAF changed on Saturday, and it seems to have resolved the problem - I went for a run in the pouring rain this morning without a single splutter. Very chuffed.

it is good to hear that it is OK now and useful too to have your feedback.

Glad to hear it!

Phil
