Tyre pressure

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I got back to my car yesterday after 5 days and soon after the tyre pressure warning light appeared. Didn't know what it was at first and had no idea my VRS has such a feature, but stopped to add more air and when home had it checked by the garage. Had a nail in one wheel and was slowly using air.

Fantastic feature and impressed how it works as there are no sensors in the wheel itself.

Anyway, now how do I reset the warning light as it still remains on? Surely it can't mean I have another puncture elsewhere?

Cheers

Once you have all the tyres to the correct pressure, press and hold the button until you get a "bong". That should do it....

I had the same nervous / impressed reaction the first time mine did it. In the outside lane of the M25. At exactly the national speed limit.

It's quite clever though, as I understand it, it makes use of the ABS wheel speed sensors that are usually used to spot if one wheel is slower than the others when braking (i.e. it's about to lock up!). For pressure monitoring, it looks for a wheel that is going faster than all the others, because that means that it's a smaller diameter, and so must have lost air.

For reference, when mine 'bonged' the offending wheel had dropped to 24 psi, compared to the 34 in all the others....

you will also get it when you change tyres for new once as it recognises some tech stuff that tyres are bigger and something is different to its last setting with small tyres so if you get new tyres fitted its worth resetting so warning light comes on and you waste times checking all your tyres for nothing and wasting time

you are correct when you say wheel size..

the car monitors the speed of each wheel. when you get a puncture the wheel changes its diameter therefore making the radius smaller and this will make the wheel go at a different speed to the other one on the same axle..

you cant reset it while the car is moving.. i have to stop and apply the handbrake to reset it...
