buying a VRS TDI CR -advice needed

Featured Replies

hi

i'm new and haven't posted here before as i don't yet own a skoda but hope to rectify that soon...

found a nice vrs diesel estate - been told it is a CR. fairly keen to buy but on doing a bit of research the CR only came in 2008 and this is a 2007 model.

can anyone tell me a) if this is possible and B) how to verify this for sure?

i've read a bit about some confusion between PD and CR models in the past eg http://www.honestjoh...dex.htm?t=73904

also, if it turns out to be a PD instead of a CR should I forget it and hold out for a CR model?

thanks

Switch the engine on and if it sounds like a tractor then it's a PD. The CR sounds more petrol like. On that reg it will be a PD though. If I remember the CRs came through in 2008.

If its a pd u will know as it will throw u into the seat! If it's a cr it will feel like a 110bhp :)

Don't be put off by a pd as there still a great engine and the main problem was injectors which is done free now under recall.

don't be swayed by this, the PD isn't actually any quicker.

Thanks for the replies. Dealer is adamant it's a cr based on the hpi report. Not sure this can be right. is there any other way of proving it? Sounded neither tractor or petrol like... somewhere in between. It did put you back in the seat though :)

An easy check is to have a look at the rev counter, if it redlines at 4k its a cr, if its 4.5 k its a pd.

I think the road tax might be slightly cheaper at £130.00 on the CR?

I think you made a typo, CR redline is 5K

Okay my mistake !

If it redlines at 4.5k its not a cr then !

To be honest the CR isn't all that quiet either. Most definitely nowhere near petrol like. If its a common rail it will have a CEG engine code.

Cr isn't as quiet as people say , just drive it and u will know, but there's no way there's a cr in a 07.

Engine covers are also differant the pd has a full black cover.

Pre fl cr's tachometer redline is the same 4.5k as pd models. The fl tacho redlines at 5k. This is irrelevant as, if it is a cr it will rev to 5k. Best way to be sure is check the engine code. Someone more knowledgeable will correct me but IIRC CEGA is the cr engine code. I had a July 2008 cr and understood it was one of the first so doubt that there are any cr's from 2007.

Thanks very much for the posts. In the meantime they've just dropped the price for us considerably, which makes it a much more appealing prospect and it is now a big difference in price compared to the *genuine* CR models for sale out there. Should be picking up this evening... Just need to put up with the turbo lag, the noise, the fuel consumption, the extra road tax... ah well- hope it's the right decision. Having said all that, from what I've read, the PD sounds like a pretty decent engine anyway.

The CR's are as quiet as people make out, i've got one and went from a PD.

The PD is the same road tax isn't it?

FAIL...Mine has an all black cover and is a CR

FAIL...Mine has an all black cover and is a CR

Mine too.

No way is a 2007 registered VRS a CR... has to be a PD

Still the design of the covers is different.

The PD should show on the car sticker as a BNM (motor kenn buchstabe, internal VAG motor code).

And as said before the CR came in the interim interior facelifted modells. Should have been after summerholidays in 2008,

just before the facelifted Octavia was produced.

Here is a piccie of the PD cover:

And this is the CR cover

Me too. (sorry magic I had to :p )

CRAWZ enjoy your new car im sure you have test driven it anyway and will have enjoyed it a lot! Sod dealers HPi report btw always get my own id especially have done so if their one had any a mistake in it and the good old fashioned checking all numbers look standard and match paperwork etc.

Car tax for a CR is £130 a year and £160 on PD.

£165 on CR DSG :(

No, it just feels it :giggle:
