Is Insurance getting cheaper?

Recommended Posts

Last years insurance cost me £449 for my 2008 L&K with remap through Admiral. The renewal quote was £418 and, after a brief search on Go Compare, Elephant came in at £350, which Admiral matched. I also reduced my voluntary excess from £500 to £250. Happy days!

I'd say no but it's all over the place. My brother just insured a Suzuki Swift Sport, fully comp, 2 years NCB, with both parents as named drivers for £1000. If he wanted to insure my vRS Estate with almost 60bhp more and a lot faster it would have only been £900

I was insured with Elephant last year, they were in the cheapest bracket. This year's quote was way up. I easily got new quotes at around £130 cheaper using the confused web site.Coverage is the same and I've reduced my overall excess as well.Paying about £240 this year with <1000miles business use and protected NCB.

Oh this is all promising I will be happy if it comes down more when I move back to the UK it was £330 for last 2 years there with the Mk1 Fabia VRS and quotes for the Octavia were a joke most wanted £600-£800. Currently paying €1226 :(

I have never had a cheaper renewal quote from the same firm, however, I had got it cheaper once I have looked at other companies, Chris Knott has generally matched it. was happy with £360 this year :)

It's insurance, so it depends which way the wind's blowing!

I've saved money year-on-year though, but it's such a minefield and there are that many variables they might take into consideration - it'll depend entirely on who you are, where you are, your driving history etc etc etc.

Yep, I had the same - even the specialist brokers were putting it up each year, but a few hours ringing around between them tended to do the trick. I usually end up moving, but I did have two consecutive years with Brentacre a couple of years ago - which is the first time I've stayed with one company for more than a year :)

I have never been able to get a price for under £500 whatever I have driven, be it an Accord 2.4, a Focus 1.6TDCi (yes, really!) and now the VRS. Latter cost me £750 last year with ecar (I have one claim from 2010 when I slid on ice into a parked car = £800), and 2000 bsiness miles a year.

This year its down to £635 but via Quidco I get £40 cashback.

Shame I can't claim for a rebate for the last 12 months when the car was way down on power!

Not sure I can afford a remap, last year Flux was about £1500 for the standard car (I have 5 years NCD)....

Iv fully comp garage insurance for the last 7 years so can drive what I want including modified/sports and performance as these are the type of cars I deal with mostly.

I think it's down too 1150 now.

The wife has the Vrs insured fully comp for €680.

Think mines going up from £485 to around £520 this year. I've had a shop around and the cheapest quote I've got is with more than for £420. Baffle me though how you can attain another years no claims, show that you are a lesser risk driver by having that additional years no claims and they still put it up.

Mine's not gone down - £850 last year, £855 this year :'( Did manage to get a slightly cheaper quote from another company, but when I asked them about winter tyres they had never heard of them (I even had to explain that they weren't snow chains) and categorically told me that when I put them on my policy would be void and hence I would have no cover! :o Needless to say, I didn't take out a policy with them (and ended up having to renew with my current insurer)

I got a quote from Skoda and fell about laughing....it would up my premium by £300.

I'm with Skoda. Not overly pricey & they were willing to negotiate on renewal. I have usually changed on renewal. But, ever since I had to claim with Admiral and got APPALLING service, I now appreciate the 'you get what you pay for' principle.

If you look at the small print, Skoda (via Allianz) provide a great service!

Renewal quote this year from admiral for my Scout and swmbo Merc A150 =£1,344

Shopping around I can get this down to about £700 insuring them seperately, so the multicar discount is a load of bull once they've got you with them.

I've been with the same company for years (Royal &Sun Alliance ) via a works scheme broker for my own and the wife's cars and they've always been around the £280 to £370 mark, the newer car usually the more expensive quote.

This year though the premiums both leapt to over £380 for the wife and ......£480 for my VRS!!

Shopped around and the best prices I found were with Tesco Compare, with the lowest quote for the VRS being £214 !!!

Obviously got to check the smallprint and exactly what benefits you're getting so I opted for Hastings Premier through the Tesco Compare site at £276 which not only got me better cover than previously but also Tesco clubcard points into the bargain as I bought through their site. Result !

I've just cancelled my Hasting cover (£620 for std VRS) because Green Light got it to £550 with a remap (underwritten by LV I think). My current (due to expire end April) premium was £784 in std factory set up.

Not so much a requote but revision...

Eibachs added to policy - no extra cost

Oz ultraleggra wheels - increase in excess by £50

Amazed! That is with Chris knott

I don't renew until September anyway so I'll perhaps give them another shot then

I'm surprised CK applied an increase for wheels? The usual approach is that anything that doesn't increase performance won't affect the premium.

Not too bothered as it was to the excess opposed to straight from my pocket. On the same policy they used to add £15 a time with the alfa per slight mod.
