anyone finding the mobius not starting up with the latest firmware update. I have it set to fast start, but unless I wait when turning on the ignition for it to power up, it doesn't come on at all

  • It's funny. Before I found this site, I would never have dreamt of doing mods or even considered buying a dash cam! A bad influence you lot are!!

  • This picture should sum up what I got around to today and what element to this task went wrong after I returned from an extended test drive for a comparison video v the Blackvue.........     chrisw

  • Because you'll have a dead phone after a while from it constantly writing to the flash memory, unless you use a replaceable card.   Because you can leave the camera in the car when parked up to catc

Not had any problems, been a few weeks since I updated though. If it's a FW problem they will fix it fast, best keep eye on mobius forums and see whats what.

Think I will go sign up and have a search. Good shout fella

Will try messing with the settings, failing that take it back to the original FW that I had no issue with

Seems we have the irresistible force of the dashcam meeting the immovable smartphone object LOL.

In summary........

If you want better quality footage get the Mobius

If you want easy peasy neat installation and a few bells and whistles get a blackvue, but the video footage won't be as good.

If you don't mind the faff and loose wires and having to remember to set it up every time get an app for your smartphone (assuming you've got one good enough, which if you haven't will cost you far more than either of the above)

Above all else get 1 or the other, there's too many lying shoits out there and many Briski members have wished they had one when the brown stuff hit the fast spinning piece of metal......simples

I had your problem with mine. In the end I had to send it back for a foc replacement. To be fair they replaced it for a new one with no issues but of course takes a while being based in China.

Adam, was this when you first bought it? Mine has been perfect for ages, I think it may well be the settings or FW update. I should have stuck with how it was as I don't need all the extra functions the new FW has to offer. I find myself having to unplug and replug each time I get in the car and don't see the red light flashing whilst moving

Yes but it started after a fw update back then too. That same symptom of the flashing red light not coming on was what I experienced too. I initially thought it was the battery, but the problem remained after a battery change, although it did not occur as often.

Ok, cheers Adam. Will try it and if not, contact China

Daily Roads Voyager app.

Works in background so you can take calls, do whatever.

On an HTC one, factory cradle.

This is on its most basic video setting, so you could get higher quality of you wanted, but I think this is fine.

Why waste money on a separate camera?

Yes hot all that BUT WHICH CRADLE?! This is the critical part of using a phone

* stable so no vibration

* where mounted so that you get a good clear view but is within reach to operate/view satnav (primary use for my phone when driving is copilot)

* major benefit is phone uses one charge port. A separate cam requires another to be used constantly unless hard wired.

*car home ultra or similar app is really needed to operate phone safely in car.

* camera in an S3 is good resolution, but way too wide angle, and image is stretched horizontally, so number plates of incoming cars unreadable (so back to quality of the mount)

I have an HTC one and use their own make cradle. As soon as you slide the phone in it automatically goes into 'car' mode, connects to my bluetooth device and I have a screen with the apps I use when I'm driving. I also use copilot. It all works absolutely fine. I'll take a pic later today so you can see the setup.

I'm torn between cheap, potentially unreliable quality of a G1W, and a Garmin dashcam 10.

Downgraded the firmware last night and worked perfectly this morning, started up and stayed on so will be leaving that well alone

Caught my awful driving on it last night when a lapse of concentration nearly ended in disaster. Got to take my hat off to the young lady driving the mini although her and her mum thought we hit. I guess the ABS noise was loud as she didn't hit me and she didn't hit anything on the side of the road. It would have rounded off my awful monday, but thankfully it didn't and has given me a reminder to concentrate more.

Which number version of FW should we avoid?

I struggled with the latest, 1.7 is it? You can easily go back a revision or 2 so I wouldn't worry too much

Having had a few more close shaves I've ordered a G1W cam.

We'll see how it goes.

How do these compare to the mobius please?

Thanks. Will review!

Mobius looks like the winner?

That's entirely up to your own opinion. I personally view the footage as mostly better if the slightly better footage for slightly more money is what you are after "Come Join Us" :D But the shape of the other one might suit you more or the little screen on it (I mount mine behind rear view mirror so screen for me personally pointless and I wouldn't want it in my eye line while driving ,to stay 100% legal) Mobius you can change lens for an even wider one etc and is an action camera also with lots of mounts available now, so can be used for more than one activity.....

To note the Mini 0801 in the test reel above has a newer version just released the Mini 0803 which goes higher than 1080p (1296p or something I only glanced at it) Around £70-£80 with GPS mount delivered online. Also worth a look on the higher priced cameras is the A7 GS6000.

The G1 is considerably cheaper than the mobius. Amazon reviews suggest pic quality is excellent, but build quality sometimes suspect. I've bought a Samsung OE window mount. If that is rigid enough then I'm using my phone for free.

I'll carry on not deciding for now I think!

There are G1W counterfeits all over Ebay best to look for a good source, but even the cheapest suspect ones are still only £13 cheaper than a Mobius costs. Hardly significantly cheaper, when compared to the likes of paying another £200 for a Blackvue etc.

Out of interest where are you guys mounting your phones to get a good view as a dash cam? I for some reason have images of them right in centre of screen etc. Do folk go for top middle or low etc, any pics of phone in place?

Seems to be particularly good at night.

Mine was fulfilled by Amazon. I took the assumption since it's in their warehouse it'll probably be legitimate. Or at least they'll take more interest in sorting any problems.

£34 for the camera which I thought was worth a punt after some of the driving I've seen in the last week.
