  • It's funny. Before I found this site, I would never have dreamt of doing mods or even considered buying a dash cam! A bad influence you lot are!!

  • This picture should sum up what I got around to today and what element to this task went wrong after I returned from an extended test drive for a comparison video v the Blackvue.........     chrisw

  • Because you'll have a dead phone after a while from it constantly writing to the flash memory, unless you use a replaceable card.   Because you can leave the camera in the car when parked up to catc

If I was getting a new camera now, this would be my choice hands down. £59 without GPS mount £73.99 with GPS and 79.99 with GPS and built in 8GB memory (handy if you forget to put card back in some time) on amazon.co.uk  Looks similar to the older models already shown in here but this is the badger! Updated to be fantastic all rounder!

Like that!

Tried the the 720 version of this.

First one had a fault, second one snapped off when I tried to remove it as the mounting plastic is too thin from the camera to the mount.

Quality was fine though.

Went with the Blackvue for ease of removal and refitting.

Strength and general QC seem to be much improved, I dismissed the 720p one for the issues you experienced. It is great to see the good quality lower priced units starting to come out of the woodwork though. There are more and more of them these days.

  • 1 month later...

A nice little montage from my mobius camera taken yesterday morning

I watched this wondering what the problem was with the Jag turning right, but then I kept watching. That looked VERY close! Is being stuck behind a bus really worth nearly killing yourself and others? Mad.

They must have left their brains at home. Mike, I am glad I always leave plenty of room and look ahead, could see them happening from a way back and glad the camera picked them all up.

Dan, not sure what was going through the guys head as he overtook the bus

That night I went to football and a focus ran a red light too, must have been one of those mondays

See next Monday ...just stay in bed!!!...Think you might be a wee bit safer!!!

Kit :)

Kit, funny you should say that, I've got Monday and Tuesday off :)

+1 for the E-prance - Installed nearly 7wks ago now and forget that it's there!

Must check it to see if it is still working, but the led is blue when driving.

I'm thinking of buying one if these as well. Did you get the one with or without GPS. Do you really need GPS? Thanks. Paul.

Would be interested in one of these myself let me know if you think the gps is worth the extra also comes with 8 gb built in !

Cheers

I decided against GPS as I not keen on having my speed displayed on the screen!

I just bought the 0801 DVR from here:-

Having spoken to them it would appear that the casing is not copyrighted so there are some rogue versions out there. I was also told that even though they use the same chipset the ones on Amazon are actually copies. They have their own firmware and you can't beat a UK warranty.

I have just set it up and it works very well, simple with the hardwire kit.

Here is a night sample:-

Brilliant driving!

How many hrs driving does the 8Gb memory record?

Sorry if this does not specifically answer your question but -

It depends on the make of camera you buy & the quality of picture as the HD versions will give less hrs than non HD.

It would be worth looking at the specifications of the camera you want, if it is not supplied in the blurb then e mail the supplier / manufacturer.

Also worth checking if a larger SD card can be used specially if you do long trips.

My Road Hawk non HD camera will give just under 12hrs on a 16gb SD card.

I am worried about coverage of a collision so am unconcerned about how many hours of recording I might or might not have prior to that happening.

Really like the look of that 0801, though I'd be interested in powering it some way other than a big lead to the 12v cigarette lighter socket. Stupid question maybe but does it rewrite over the oldest clip when the 32Gb card is full or must the files be copied off/deleted from the card. I'm lazy and would just want to let it run unless there was a specific incident I wanted to take off and keep.

They usually record on a loop.

I have the möbius recording at 720p and get 2 days of normal driving, say about 6 hours, on a 32Gb gard

Same camera and memory card, I get 4 hours 1080p
