  • It's funny. Before I found this site, I would never have dreamt of doing mods or even considered buying a dash cam! A bad influence you lot are!!

  • This picture should sum up what I got around to today and what element to this task went wrong after I returned from an extended test drive for a comparison video v the Blackvue.........     chrisw

  • Because you'll have a dead phone after a while from it constantly writing to the flash memory, unless you use a replaceable card.   Because you can leave the camera in the car when parked up to catc

Exactly why mine stays in.

@Fubar how are you liking the Mobius?

did you buy the mount from same seller as the camera? (eletoponline365)

I have the Möbius, very good, simple, reliable so far after 6 months, good quality HD images and about 5 hours 1080p footage fits on a 32Gb SD card at 30fps

All for about £60. Bargain!

Bought the suction mount and sticky pad version from the same guys. On the Yeti, the sticky pad mount allows the camera to sit higher up the screen but not behind the mirror unfortunately. Can't see it from the drivers seat though so I'm happy.

Exactly as CFB says with me, only you will not get 5 hours out of 16gb at full 1080p, more like 2 hours (more likely just under). A 5 minute clip is about 630-650mb. You can however going by the instruction manual use Micro SDXC cards 64GB tested and larger should work also but not available these must be formatted in exFAT, up to 32GB FAT32 is fine. You can get a 32GB card delivered for under £15 and a 64GB  for under £27 now.

I got my mounts from the same seller yes (eletoponline365) 9 months now and had lots of use, I run 2 and several drives of 800 miles in a oner. But a mount is a mount and I would buy one anywhere else if cheaper etc.

"Cottage"?? Darn auto correct I typed footage.

Anyway, my apologies FUBAR.

I've just checked. I'm running 1080p at 30fps and 32 Gb card. That will give you about 5 hrs.

Had me wondering if you might have been in mode2 preset to 720p at 30fps or something.

One problem with the G1W that I've picked up on after a bit of time.

It puts out radio interference when plugged into the 12v power. Not massively which is why I didn't click it at first but enough to irritate on some stations.

Might be something to do with how I've routed the cable.

Changing cars soon and if it persists after that I'll be returning it.

On the strength of this thread, I bought a Mobius last week. Estimated delivery for June 6th. I procrastinated buying the memory card and sure enough the camera arrived a week early today, so if I want to test it over the weekend, I'll be paying a premium for a memory card in whatever local shop. What a spanner!

Do you not have a 1GB for testing. Thankfully we had spare ones from old mobile phones

Fidget, that's another good thing about ordering the Möbius from that chap in china.

Can't remember his name... Electro something?

They seem to be delivered at least a week before the estimate.

Eleteponline is the seller. He also changed mine for me when it played up, no fussing, just sent me another.

All this talk has sparked my interest to get another for the rear window.

Only problem is the rear glass on a Yeti is near vertical and none of the standard mounts will work.

Problem 2 is a switched live in the back of the car. Any ideas Fubar?

I've sent a message to electro...?

I'll let you know when I get an answer.

If it's no I'm going to have to fettle something as Fubar suggested earlier.

EUREKA! (sort of). Thanks for reminding me I have an old HTC a MicroSD, think it's 1 or 2 GB......now if only I can locate the drawer/cupboard/dark corner it's buried in!

Yep, that's the seller. I got a free AV cable with it too. A bit naughty that they marked the customs label as $5 value, but I'm not complaining!

That is all it will be worth to them in China. In the same way a £600 iPhone costs like £90 to make.

I was just thinking about your situation the other day and  had a thought. As I have said before the thread for the mount is a standard tripod thread I think. So what about a mount like this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Action-Camera-Suction-Cup-Mount-Bracket-Camcorder-GoPro-/271229353292?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f26877d4c

Should fold over on itself pretty neatly and be able to point the camera at the right angle under itself.

Or better again one like this with a ball joint at tip?

A long reach type one like this should work pretty well but might need to hunt around to find a little cheaper?

This one is nice and neat, if the shaft bit can rotate 180 degrees*** would be the one I would go for in your big Yeti monster shoes.

*** Looks like they can by the pics in this one from China!!! Would be ideal! (locking key bit in last pic is facing opp way)

Here's my G1W installed. I also blacked out the shiny parts with electrical tape. Why it has to have shiny parts on it is beyond me in the first place.

I don't like lighter jack connectors all over the place, and since I'm in my 30's and not 18 anymore I like to do modifications that can be un-done in two minutes with no visible traces. Hence the piggyback connector. :)

Stealing power from the rear wiper. 15A, ignition switched. Using an oldskool aftermarket lighter jack and some cable, ground from a random screw nearby. The dashcam has its own 2A fuse on the piggyback connector.

This will have to do.

This is what you see behind the wheel. Pleasantly surprised that the suction cup works on the black dots (whatever it's called) behind the mirror.

Can you tell you're being watched? :D

Never uploaded anything to YouTube before... here goes... crazy foreign car nearly wiping me out on the A30 down near Newquay  :o

I have had a reply from Electro.

They don't do what I need so I'm going to order this one.

Of course I'll let the master of the dash cam know :giggle:

Perc, remove the rubber seal and you'll be able to tick the write in before it goes up the a pillar

total newbie to dashcams here and trying to decide between the Mobius and the 0801. Small and discreet is what I'm after as long as its reliable and the quality is OK. Both of these seem to have advantages and disadvantages in these areas. GPS isnt an issue and with a heated screen it might be a problem anyway.

Is there anything to choose between them? Whats the favourite these days?

Many thanks

Maybe biased, but I'm very happy with the möbius. Easy to set up and good quality images.

Nope no problem at all, my blackvue GPS works fine through my heated screen.
