Dash Cams

Featured Replies

Great topic!

I have the Mobius like alot of other people.

But I first found it through a youtube review like this:

Thats a newish 1 with the added on wide angle lense and an extended lense wire to hide the cam away "stealthily" ninja style!

Il find the original youtube vid it was from this same chap and he fully reviewed it with how the cam works with all of the modes etc.

Cheers

  • It's funny. Before I found this site, I would never have dreamt of doing mods or even considered buying a dash cam! A bad influence you lot are!!

  • This picture should sum up what I got around to today and what element to this task went wrong after I returned from an extended test drive for a comparison video v the Blackvue.........     chrisw

  • Because you'll have a dead phone after a while from it constantly writing to the flash memory, unless you use a replaceable card.   Because you can leave the camera in the car when parked up to catc

Here you go guys. Anyone reading this and wanting a great quality dash cam check this out. I personally bought it because of this great review  great explanations on how to operate it.

Made in Taiwan! Yeah, thanks ebay!

Anyone have issues with inserting a micro sd hc card into the back of the mobius? I bought a 16GB Kingston 1 as recommended on http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1904559&page=53 However it doesnt seem to go in. Any ideas? Cheers

Don't take this the wrong way but... Have you tried putting it in the other way up.

The contacts on the card should face the silver heat sink on the camera.

I was going to say the same thing. IIRC it doesn't go in the way you think it would

My 8GB card on 720p is more than good enough. There is a short vid of mine a couple of pages back, I get 2 hours out of it so my complete commute. You can also protect your 4 minute of footage which I did a couple of times this morning as I witnessed some great pedestrians trying to get killed

Yeah I worked that out eventually. Still yet to see if it works though.. im waiting for the suction mount to come. Il post here how i get on.

Cheers for the reply

Yeah the developers recommend a branded class 4 SD card for pretty much guarenteed compatibility but other cards work also. But you might find buying a class 10 card is much more money for very little gain and possibly with no compatibility to the unit itself.

Oops I replied to the first quote in the 2nd quote. Can you tell im still learning the ropes?!

Back to topic. Anyone thinking of getting a dash cam read the reviews and instructions on use along with real night and day footage. You really cant ask for a better dash cam for £40 odd.

Also did anyone see you can link up the mobius 1080p HD dash cam to android mobiles??

Any Mobius folk know what the craic is with the new FW versions? I finally got around to installing my 2 Mobius cameras into the ZT and updated the FW on both before doing so to V1.20. There are lots of new options inc motion detection etc but also a massive addition of control of camera settings like sharpness, brightness and contrast etc etc. All are set by default to middle and I left well alone, having come back from a Mother's Day cruise I looked at the footage and it's not as good as it was :( Has anyone had a play and found good settings for these new values?

ps, installing it into the ZT was a work of art! I took the time to install 2 independent 12V sockets in boot and my trusty 3 socket one in glove box which I liberated from the vRS. My best point to bolt on my negative cables for all was in the boot!! So it was a bit of a mission getting it all wired in.  :whew:

I bought a Road Hawk recently after having my Octy written off by a guy driving down the wrong side of the road in his Range Rover.

Not the cheapest by a long way but reliable, top quality, discreet and easily removeable if you need to use it in more than one car. Also makes a great track day cam too

I have a dash-cam in my 2006 Octavia 2.0TDI Elegance, and it works great, good quality pictures too. The main problem is that when it powers up and starts recording, it doesn't half interfere with the radio reception. I also had the same problem with the last car I fitted it to (2003 Renault Laguna). Is there any way of preventing this interferance?

Cheers

Did anyone find the Mobius is compatible with their smartphone? I tried to connect mine to connect mine but the Samsung Galaxy S3 isnt compatible with it.

Getting the S5 soon.. hopefully that will be compatible.

Welcome to Briskoda! :)

What make/model of camera have you got?

Have you made sure that the power isn't routed anywhere near the headunit?

How are you trying to connect it to your Galaxy S3? By USB? Didn't know you could do that.

Great thread

If you fancy going down the cam route give me a shout if you need any help.

Depending on the phone, you either need a direct usb or one that offers an extra usb cable for power. I have the wrong one for my Nexus but will keep it for future phones.

This morning I screen grabbed this

Should work fine even on any android device with correct cable. What version of android do you have and did you use the app shown here?

You sure can. It could be a handy thing to have to show a retard in the event that it is their fault to limit the lies and hassle they might call giving a different story.

Many thanks, will do.

Hi. It's a Smartcam HD 1080P, and I have the power lead as far away from the radio head unit as possible. It's really annoying because it's a great camera, but after a few minutes the crappy radio reception gets on my nerves and I end up turning the cam off.

I'm having that issue, but I am used to it and it is only Radio 2. I do want to re-route the cable so I may well go up the driver pillar instead

Can anyone with a E Prance camera help?

My camera records ok, but sometimes it misses a few days when I have been driving most of the day! Also, i have set the clips to 5 mins, but on reviewing, some clips are 20-30 secs.

I have motion detection on, if I turn this off, do i have to press the power button each time i get in the car?

it is wired into a permanent live as i could not find a switched one by the way.

I have reformatted the card, once It stopped recording after a few days, now it records on most days.

I'm not 100% happy with it as I feel i cannot rely on it to record all the time i am driving.

Also, the screen has a permanent imprint of the "review files for playback" (can't remember the exact message)

thanks for your help

After reading other radio related posts, I'm wondering IF it could be that my radio antenna amplifier may not be working fully. I reckon that if I'm not getting 100% of the signal with the camera off, then when I switch it on it degrades the poor reception even further.

Even when the cam is off, my radio does suffer with drop-out every now and then, so it may be worth investigation that avenue.

Mine is only when the camera is on and gets better as I drive and the car warms up, almost like it doesn't have enough power to cope with everything that is on. I'll get it re-routed soon when the lighter nights arrive and I have a few hours children and wife free

What's the best place to get genuine Blackvue camera for a good price? I'm thinking of getting a DR380....
