Rob's 2004 Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Fed up now :(

Bad luck

Option 1 - drive 700km to Auckland, pay $1400 (plus about $150/hr for a dyno, or use street logging), drive back.

So 3 days of my time, plus maybe $2k in costs. And I get to do a nice drive.

that's what I'd do

Good luck ;)

Tried out my new Chemical Guys Black Light polish. I recommend it!! I'm very happy with the results. It was easy to apply and buff off. After leaving for 15 minutes I expected it to be difficult to sh

I'm going to take the bumper off and double check the boost pipework that I can't see. Then if I don't find anything a smoke test is the next step.

my boost pipes looked fine, nice neat and tight, plug in the smoker oh its ****ing out of everywhere :giggle:

Spent an hour tightening clamps at lunchtime. Hint - if the bolt snaps it's too tight.

No improvement, so I gave in and went to an independent garage where they have a Skoda trained tech.

He greeted me with "Have they been letting you use spanners again?"

He had a look round the bay, got a can of brake cleaner and sprayed it around the injector cups, in cylinder 4 it coughed when he sprayed. He handed me the can, said there you go, and walked back inside. :D

So, injector O-ring I assume. Will check it out later when the child is sleeping.

Bah, still not right. That leak is fixed, the clip at the top of the injector wasn't quite on right and it had slipped down in the cup!! No idea how it wasn't leaking fuel - phew.

Have emailed Ben some logs in the hope he can help somehow! It's running really lean, which is bad.

yes its not good, nether lean or rich in any amount are good, try to minimise the driving if you can, as lean means running hotter, keep an eye on your temps, and your fluids topped up

just to have an input here! what about your DV i don't know much about when the springs need to be changed but could it be that now you have the hybrid that maybe you need to change to a different spring inside? i'm sure someone will be along to either tell me i'm a idiot or its worth a shot!

Never thought about the DV - it's a standard Bailey DV30 which I've had for 8 years :o.

But it's running lean, so that's probably not causing problems.

Ben suggested swapping the Saab 350cc injectors that Billy supplied for 225 TT ones, which are 386cc.

Then they are more of a known quantity for mapping.

ah yes it skipped my mind that its running lean when i said about the dv haha hope you get this sorted soon!

I just want it to run properly now, it has been too long!

Asked the local Audi dealer for a price on injectors, should be amusing at least.

Prob cheaper to fly the car to the uk for ben to map and then fly it back again lol

Dealer price was just over $1000 for 4 TT injectors. :D Ex- Germany too so a 2 week delivery.

I swapped the sensor from my old MAF into the 3" housing.

MAF hasn't helped with the cold running/cutting issue. Once warm it revs smoothly through the range.

Sitting still if I hold RPM at 2000-3500, AFR gauge sits at lean. Under and over it sits normal to rich. And bang on normal when idling. So the gauge seems to be giving an accurate representation.

I ordered some 225 injectors online, in case it is them, and presumably Ben needs to send an adjusted map for those. Will leave it in the garage until I can do both.

that sucks, still least you know now and can get it checked

this is a good suggestion perhaps (from the facebook page)

'Niki R-Tech Gower So u having a remote tune on a stage2 hybrid using a base map wrote by another tuner for an other car? Not the best way forward. Start from scratch and get tuned / logged on a dyno as the egt and AIT play a huge factor on each unique setup'

Can you get the setup leak tested once new injectors are in?

My lack of understanding of the mapping process means I misrepresented the way my map was born. What I have is not based on the RTech map. Anyway will wait for the known injectors to arrive then get a smoke test.

I feel your pain mate

Nice work mate

I got impatient so I had a smoke test done today. Very small leak on one of the catch can connections, will get that fixed tonight.

Otherwise all good. All gaskets and boost pipes are airtight.

$20 well spent.

Waiting for injectors now, and revised map :)

Ah the fun of modifying cars continues! I hate when you have faults that you just cant pin point the cause!

Hopefully you will be back on the road soon :)

Hope so! Apparently my LSD is ready at last :D

your gonna need it once the car is running right with all the power! what bhp are you trying to get?

  • Author

Right now I just want it to run properly :) High 200s would be nice.

In fact 200KW (272bhp) would be nice to impress the locals :D

I'd love to be able to say it had 300bhp but that might be optimistic.

Yeah wont do 300 !!!

270 will be a solid number and be fast fast fast

Fingers crossed it all goes well dude

Just hope I haven't got one of the CR Turbos timebombs. :)

Injectors are on their way.

LSD paid for (oh yes!) Thanks Rob @ W8

Will see how injectors/map work out.

But if not, the local place is doing 12 months interest free on ECU/tuning packages.
