Tried out my new Chemical Guys Black Light polish. I recommend it!! I'm very happy with the results. It was easy to apply and buff off. After leaving for 15 minutes I expected it to be difficult to sh

My LSD:

Processed Through Sort Facility NEW ZEALAND June 2, 2013 1:01 pm Customs clearance processing complete NEW ZEALAND May 31, 2013 5:13 pm

New map loaded. Still not right. I wish I could work out what I have done to cause these running issues. Going to have to start taking it apart again I think.

your get thier soon and when you do

Sounds like someone from shark performance needs a holiday in New Zealand ;)

Dont suppose you have any links to the bits you used to make up you breather pipe set up?

Ooooh new LSD should be fun.

Are you still using the ecu which came with the turbo kit? I'm no expert, but could you use you're ecu and tweak the map from there?

i'd be tempted to go take it to a one stop shop, a workshop that can work on the car, diagnose and do the software, its complicated enough getting this right when you are in the same country, let alone on the other side of the world and another time zone.

No I'm using my own ECU. Shark had a look at the ECU that came with it just for a couple of pointers to see how it had been mapped on the other car, then created their own custom map for me.

I agree! Trouble is the only place locally that can do all that is the place that wants to replace the ECU with a link for $4k

Last resort.,

I'm 99% sure the issues I have are not map related but an air/boost/vac issue somewhere.

$4k....ouch!

i guess you need to just keep up what you are doing an systematically work through everything replacing anything that looks sus, will be a lot cheaper than 4k!

Yep agreed. I think I need to take a day off work and concentrate on it for the day.

Smoke test?

Had one done - no apparent leaks. But the issue only happens when under load.

I was thinking maybe the turbo actuator could be set wrong as I had to take it off to get the turbo into place. Not sure if that would cause this but it's something I haven't checked.

You would need to set the preload up or you will have issues

Local car club meet yesterday:

Goes like a rocket in first, not quite right in other gears.

Seems to be running lean and does lots of popping on lift-off.

This was more for noise than anything, it picked up the popping at the end.

Reminds me of Getaway in Stockholm

Have set to 3 turns for now, and sent CR a message asking what they recommend.

No change :(

No apparent customs charges either - unless NZ Post deliver then bill after.

These issues are doing me head in, I just want to drive it!!

Tried a few more things (see 1.8t diag thread)

No changes.

Consoled myself by running some new audio cables to the boot.

I'm starting to think I only have two options:

Re-fit standard turbo and bits

Go to local tuner, pay $4k, trust them to sort it with aftermarket ECU.

Possibilities are:

Issue still there with standard turbo - if so lots of time wasted, I'm still frustrated.

Issue goes away by going back to standard - if so money wasted on other parts I guess!

Issue still there with aftermarket ECU - if so LOTS of money wasted. But easier option for later tuning.

Issue fixed with aftermarket ECU - me happy but paying for it for a long time!!

It still "feels" like it's a hardware issue rather than software but it's hard to know what to do next!

Nick from R-tech was posting some interesting stuff about piggy backed ECU's on facebook last night, I don't think I'd go this route, but I guess your options are limited.

4k!!! That's serious cash. It wouldn't be my option, unless I won the lottery.

Surely cheaper to pay for a tuner from the UK to come and visit you!!
