looking to get Fabia VRs.. Advice Please fellow briskodians! :)

Featured Replies

Well.....

I've searched the forums for over a month now day in day out,

looking at cars on here and many other forums and came to a decision that the fabia VRs mk 1 is the car for me and in the price range i am after...

BUT....

Im going to view a fabia vrs private seller on saturday, taking a mechanic mate of mine with me for peace of mind but i do know quite a bit about cars or so i think i do anyways.

Any advice from any members of what i have to look for when buying the car like problems etc?

If people could let me know things to look out for etc id be grateful.

btw the car im going to look at is a Black fabia vrs, 2004 reg, 85k miles, 1 owner, 1 year M.O.T, clean (looking at the photos anyways)

any help would be good help,

Cheers :)

Hi and welcome aboard.

look for damp rear carpets (leaking door seals)

knocking over bumps, and uneven front tyre wear (console bushes)

service history (especially cambelt/waterpump change)

otherwise if it drives well, go for it :)

awesome mate :)

can't wait to get it, the week is gonna drag in because am looking forward to it that much, haha

will report back when i get it cheers :)

keep your eye on the NW meets section (I'm in Cumbria) we've just had our annual camping meet :)

Hello and welcome.

awesome, will do! and cheers :)

Got the car, everything going well with it, driving along changede to 3rd gear, just coming onto the boost POP. lost power, car turned loud, thoght oh **** thats the turbo... but popped bonnet tpoo find the pipe had popped off from the intercooler to turbo or whatever the pipe is. hopefully hthat wont have effected the turbo ??? but i just stopped it and ditched it didnt want to move it incase i caused any damage luckyily it was near a turn into a small estate so left it in the estate. would it have damaged the turbo when the pipe popped off and has anyone else had this problem? chweers.,

Nar you wont have done damage, if you had of carried on it would have gone into limp mode anyway to prevent damage. Just needs boost hose putting on properly. Most likely That the clip hasnt been tightened sufficiently.

cheers mate, put it back together anyways and tested it, it blew off again, took it local garage he tried to hold it on with jubilee clips, took it for a test drive and it blew them off, the lugs on it are wore away to ****... so ordered a new bottom section of the pipe the part that comes from intercooler got it for 30 pound through my brother that works at border cars skoda franchise. was quoted 116 and 112 pound from telfords skoda in carlisle ans TPS in carlisle.

dunno if its went into limp mode.. but if it has after the new pipes fitted how do you get it out of limp mode or does it reset when the car gets started again?

You'll know if it's in limp mode as it'll be slow as hell.

Turn off and restart will cure it, but if the problem hasn't gone away (another leaky boost hose etc) then it'll happen again eventually.

As scoop says above just turn engine off and back on. Just a case of checking all hoses really mate. Im sure it will be ok but just have them check them when they replace the culprit . Make sure they are on well.

Yeah got it sorted cheers lads. A checked all hoses myself and lad at garage did too its all sound. He said other than that pipe the cars got a good engine and everything on its spot on so am happy with that. The lugs on the pipe were wore down to the metal looks asif they were never there no joke, so new ones on and it's driving like a boss again :) happy days.

I will get some pictures up after the weathers good enough to give it a good detailed clean.
