ELECTRICAL FAULTS ?

Featured Replies

Hi there, I’m new on here and have a query with ref to my 55 reg superb.

I’m not certain if its one fault or a combination of several faults but if someone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate that.

Around one week ago the light panel above the front rv mirror failed, followed by the radio info in the front dash coming/going periodically and the computer clock on front dash freezing on the time displayed when I turn the ignition off.

The front electric windows occasionally stutter when opening/closing

I have checked all my fuses out and they all appear to be ok as do the battery leads.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Water ingress. Look under the passenger side carpets for water or damp.

Back passenger well is very wet..

Recently had mot carried out and new pollen filter fitted so perhaps the garage may have upset something in that area. :-(

have found a blog via Briskoda.net: http://nackuk.blogspot.co.uk/2010/06/with-some-of-interior-lights-puddle.html

which makes interesting but scary reading given that I am a non-mechanical individual.

I have given the details to my mate who is a mechanic and hope that he can sort it for me.

Thanks again for your feedback and prompt replies.

Fitting a new filter will not have caused it, it is bad design that causes it, the plenum chamber grommets fill up with crap, this makes the plenum chamber flood, which in turn breaks down the poor pollen filter housing seal, water then pours into the car.

There is also the possibility of the rain channel gutter that runs across the top of the pollen filter housing has been broken, water would then pour straight through the filter into the car, this will only of been broken by a ham fisted mechanic who was trying to cure the pollen filter housing seal.

...and once you've fixed the front of the car; if you still have water coming in you might want to check out the doors (the metal panel holding the window motor can leak - mine was along the bottom) and also some people get blocked sunroof drains.

As many people have said before... doesn't it rain in Germany???!

Well I'm pleased to say that we, me and my mechanic followed the advice and pictures of nakuk's blogsp...There was a massive amount of water build up in the battery compartment area and came about a third of the way up the battery. It took us 2 days to do the job correctly as trying to drain the water out of the underlay proved the most awkward job going. The water in the back passenger well had obviously been in there sometime as we had to solder all but two of the nodes back together. We've taken the grommets away in the passenger wells and also below the battery. Once we got it all dried out and back together everything was working fine.

A massive Thank You to Cown, Gizmo and danny 57 for pointing me in the right direction and for nakuk's blog with pictures which obviously helped as a ref guide as we were following his lead.

Once again, Many thanks

You are welcome.

My old L&K which I sold to my son had its water repair some 16 months ago and touch wood has not had a problem since.
