2000 Fabia 1.4 MPI Sold, now on the lookout for another.

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Long time lurker, just not had to post much. I guess that comes down to how lucky I was with my W-reg Fabia 1.4 comfort and it's great reliability over the last year. Anyways, that car has been sold privately and I am on the lookout for another Fabia to upgrade to.

I have seen a few around used and have even considered buying new. I really like the look of the monte carlo but DTD.com can't get the specification I want until the end of August. I am now car-less (relying on the motorbike & weather playing nice) and can't afford to wait that long.

Anyways, long story short I have found a low mileage 2008 fabia 1.4 TDI PD 80 3 for £7500. I will be paying cash or with small amount on finance. Link below:

Just wondering if anyone could offer any feedback on:

Oakland Automotive (Bristol) as a dealer?

The price for a 2008 model, I realise it's only done 14k with a few extras but I think it will lose value quickly now?

Is such low mileage after 14k a problem with a diesel or am I worrying over nothing? This will be my first diesel.

Thanks for any replies and I am looking forward to getting a bit more involved in the forum once I pick up a new fab fabia

Thanks Latte, that's sweet but I think the 1.9 will drive the insurance up out of my price range.

Thanks for the reply though.

I'm gonna go and take a look sometime this week at the 1.4 fabia 3 I posted up.

If anyone has any feedback on the price and/or dealer 'Oakland automotive' id be very grateful :)

I was in the same boat. I PXed my 1.4 MPI when I bought a 2008 1.4 16v Fabia 3 with 15k mileage.

I considered going down the diesel route myself, but I was happy enough to put up with the ~39MPG in the 1.4 MPI so went for another petrol.

I'm sure some folks have done the calculations, but you pay a fair bit more for diesel at the pump. Work out how many miles you are doing etc. etc.

Check the CAM belt has been replaced if you go look at the 2008 1.4TDI as it is four years old.

Looking through the receipts I got with mine, I'm not convinced that even though it had a FSH the CAM belt was replaced - I am planning to get mine done ASAP.

Not so sure about the cambelt needing a change at 4 years these days, Skoda uk didnt give me a time frame and said my 1.9 tdi only needed a new cambelt at 80k.

In the hand book it says the cambelt for the 1.4 tdi is 100k...

I was worried about mine, and thought it was slightly ridiculous how a cheap affordable super mini should need such a high cost at only 40k.

So it was confirmed on my 08 plate fabia 1.9tdi that it was only when it hits 80k I should change my cambelt :)

Thats interesting... I refer you to

Lets not turn this thread into a when do we need to change a cam belt as this site is littered with them, but it would be nice if we could all agree on it somewhere!

Of course, I was just saying thats what SUK told me when I phoned them up.

Good luck with picking up your new Fabia! :)

the Maxi dot looks great! :D

Thanks for the advice on cambelt, I will mention it and feedback on what dealer has to say on the matter.

39MPG is good economy from a petrol engine, well, I am used to achieving 25 around town to 35 on a run in my old w-reg. Hence was time to sell. I do roughly 15,000 miles a year and having looked into the better economy offered by a diesel, combined with lower tax I think I will be better off with a diesel for the next couple of years. If I find my mileage dropping back to around 12,000 I will look to move to a diesel.

hi i dont know how far you want to travel but ive found this http://www.skoda.net...px?id=602582520 on skoda used car search

Wow, nice low mile find. I actually live in Cardiff but prepared to travel for the right car. I think I will make my way across to Bristol Thursday and take a look at both the original one I posted and this one you have just shared.

Being as it's a nice easy sale with no P/X I hope to knock them down on price at least a little bit.

Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate the advice and will certainly update with some pictures once I get chance to cross the seven bridge.

I suspect the dealer will deny it requires one at 4 years. The independent dealer that I bought mine from refused to confirm whether my car had a cambelt change and say that "it hasn't done enough miles to need one!"....

The old MPI lump benefited from a nice oil change and air/fuel filters every year, thats how I managed to get 39MPG!

Good luck with the car hunt in Brizzle.
