Gearbox problems...

HELP! Hello folks,my Fabia's gearbox is getting worse, its an estate 1.9 TDi,'07 plate 70k miles.

If i'm in a high gear/low speed i get an awful clatter from the gearbox, this is getting worse,it happens slowing down for roundabouts etc. And now my gearbox it making clunking sounds when i change gear( 1st 2nd and 3rd).

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong. Do i take it to a dealer to look at? Cost?

My local friendly back street garage seem to be out of there depth, saying they would just turn up the volume on the radio as gearbox faults are never easy/cheap to fix.

I'd be grateful for any idea's,thanks.

Best take it to a proper skoda garage or a reputable garage, google your area for reviews of garages and take it there hopefully you will get it sorted might only need a tinker

Do these have the Dual Mass Flywheel? Sounds like the sort of symptoms these give when on their way out?

P.S. Its only a guess....

Does the gearstick wobble from side to side when this happens?

Sounds like DMF failure to me.

Thanks for your swift reply. The gearstick doesn't wobble when its "doing its noise". Ive bit the bullet and it goes into my local Skoda Dealership soon,i'll keep you updated on how the do /cost etc.

Thanks again.

its fixed!!! a month earlier i had a wheel bearing changed,it turned out to be poorly fitted(not by a skoda garage) and was about to fall off,the clip that holds the nut on the back of the hub/bearing was missing! so as it slowly came undone the noise rattles/clunks got worse,on my way to the garage i got some warning lights came on and an awful scraping sound, think i had a lucky escape. £380 for investigating fault and fitting new bearing. thanks again for your replies and sorry it took me so long to get you updated.
