If it goes off, I wonder if that'll be covered under warranty:D

Nah - don't think its any of those peeps. This "clicking" sound comes from a black box mounted on the offside wing IIRC

That rings a bell!

(rings a bell? - perhaps it's an alarm clock that's ticking..)

Seriously, though; IIRC there was a thread about this a while ago - something to do with petrol vapour management. Can't remember what the outcome was, though.

Big K to the rescue per chance??

here is an update on the situation CAB say that if the garage to the best of their knowledge belives the car to be in a safe and road worthy condition then there is nothing you can do but with the bodywork damage i have to contact my inspection company and get them to prove it was not damaged when inspected

i think i am going to try and get replacement vehicle i will go into garage tomorrow and see what they say

I'd agree that if the garage supplied the car in roadworthy condition to the best of their knowledge, then fair enough.

However, you've told them it wasn't supplied in this condition, so they knowledge is now better... ;)

Rob.

The classic source of ticking noises used to be timing chains, but as we know those don't apply here :)

could be if it's a 8v engine these still have chains.

possibly i would have to know what engine and roughly were it's comming from.

It's a 1.6.

The clicking / ticking noise is coming from a box attached to the top of the OS wing. It a large lead coming out of the top, which has a white arrow stamped on it pointing towards the engine, and a smaller batch of leads (there in that plastic "bendy" cover) going God knows where! Where the large lead enters the box, there is a seal with "Bosch" on it. Bout the best I could do a 6.30 this morning!

this is the carcoal cannister it basically re-circulates the engine/ petrol vapour fumes back to the petrol tank the ticking you can here is the pump/valve.

Fabia

I would definately go to your local trading standards office and get some advice - the are usually very helpfull, also make sure any complaints you make against car/dealer are backed up in writing - you don't want to get into he said I said she said they said.....

Also just from a dealership point of view;

When you went in to complain first off - were you "On the Bounce" or were you polite -- I know when people come back to us - those that are polite and have detailed complaints rather than various shouts and moans - they usually get much better looked after - although I can only speak from an Audi dealer point of view.

That said if the car's a nail - get it sorted - go legal if you have to - small claims costs virtually nothing, you could sue for loss of "New car uphoria" or "Depression after buying a nail".

what ever the dealer is unlikely to want the negative publicity - the VW dealer down the road from us pi**ed off one of their customers last xmas - he had printed 1,000 christmas card's wishing everyone a merry xmas -- and telling them why not to buy a car there - and preceeded to stick them to the windscreens of all the cars in the local retail park(about 200 metres from dealer!)

Best of luck, Fabia. What's happening about the engine?

Glad you seem to be getting somewhere!

sorry no reply computer being stra

Good to hear you're getting somewhere - I suppose with the head gasket and tyre fixed, the rest is just cosmetic and won't really affect the value of the car. If it did, a small investment in the services of ChipsAway would probably sort it out... :)

Rob.

Rob is your door pristine again?

Had some problems with a car I bought a few years ago , garage ignored all my complaints , finally wrote to the watchdog pages of Auto Express magazine and was amazed at how quickly things got sorted after the dealer was named in the magazine . Maybe you should give this a try

Yeah, few days at a bodyshop at the insurer's expense sorted it out...would post some pics, but it's a non-dented silver door, so wouldn't really be all that interesting... ;)

Rob.

 I could post a piccie of my 4 inch vertical scratch under the passenger wing mirror, but then its just a piddly little scratch of little interest...

I do hope to post the position of my briskoda sticker soon BTW (which is just slightly more interesting)

Cheers
