Thanks Jerry, will make them get it sorted when they finally get that wiper motor unit to replace the burnt one.

Iam cheezed off with them (Skoda, not dealers) as chap I spoke to quite willingly admitted it was a known fault in cars produced from Nov 2012. They should have recalled it as they new motors they installed were faulty and would burn - they have 10 cars in just one dealership with the same problem!

While I have you on here Jerry, I will be dropping oil shortly. How much would it be to get it tested at your lab, or one you would recommend?

  • So he hasn been online for the previous 13 days. How many oil checks do you reckon Jabo has carried out during that time...... At least 13, thats for sure lol

  • meh... if its not over 100 you're not trying hard enough

  • Abit odd he went from posting about 500 times per day to zero. They must have searched his cell and the contraband laptop was seized by the warden.... ;-)

There is thought George, but this would reset my service interval, again, after it was done in January at the garage. However, as they've done it already and it is not "correct" anymore if you see what I mean, it shouldn't be of a problem? I am going to get it serviced according to the service book anyway which states Nov 2013/10k miles as next service.

LOL, obviously do not re-set your Service Interval, that was just an example.

Look and see in 'Set Up' if the 'Oil temp' is ticked or un-ticked.

Re Wiper Motor.

There was a post from a new owner 2 weeks ago, & he was told it was 'a Common Problem', and i took the Pith out of the Dealership.

We knew it happened on occasion, but not that it was common.

Shows i know jack ****.

George and Jabo, I am not talking about the maxidot setting obviously! Adding it to the available info is just one step but not enough and most cars have it enabled anyway (the indication!).

As Jerry said, Oil Temp indication was On (that is all that you can do by messing with the maxidot) but I never got to see anything else than 3 dashes. (don't ask If I had waited 10 mins in order for the oil to go above 50 C !!)

So, I went to the dealers asking If I could actually ever see a temperature there or if this function was meant to always show 3 dashes... And then they came back with the reply I posted above (different setting which hasn't anything to do with Fixed/Variable servicing) and something that one can't do without proper hardware. I still wonder If it can be VCDS enabled as I have VCDS myself but haven't found where this specific setting resides. My guess is that in your case together with the servicing variable this option was changed as well (unintentionally), or it may be that it's triggered by changing servicing and/or independently.

Just wanted to make clear it was not as stupid as taking the car to the dealers for a mere maxidot setting! Probably my bad choice of words in the first post sounded like it!

I've been to the dealers today and meant to at least ask about it.

Problem was that new Octavia - I went there to test drive it and... I really love that car! It was 105PS CR TDi with DSG box and very nice touch screen display (no NAV button on it). I took it for a 20 min test drive around town without a dealer in the car, put it through its paces and couldn't fault it really. Icreadibly quiet insite. If you consider 5 series to be REALLY quiet inside new Octavia was in the same league - massive surprise. Engie, despite being only 105 PS was really punchy, no turbolag perceptible(it was there of course but one wouldhave to really look for it to notice!) and SOO quiet! The best feature was the switchable and customizable "Driving Modes" where you could change steering responsivness, engine responsivness and air con mode, all between Normal, Eco and Sport. Eco mode was brilliant - perfect for my wife whoe recently developed a bad case of heave right foot and goes through fuel like there is no tomorrow! In practice Eco mode boils down to no matter how hard you press the loud pedal car only slowly accelerates- temptation gone :D.

Interior finishes are the same as in my Fabia vRS. Tere ismassiveamount spaceinthe boot, it looks bigger than 5 series boot and on paper is bigger than Passat. Ride is very solid, feels likea muchmore expensive car. Very comfy suspension. Trade off is with a bit more understeer than I would like - vRS in comparison feels like glued to the road!

I think 2.0tdi wouldbe perfect but a tad too pricey and I already have my fast toy ;)

1.6 CR TDiGreenLine would make a perfect family wagon.

So in the end I did not ask about the oil temp display...

So, I had a fun drive in vRS to and from the dealers and test drove some really nice set of wheels - good Sat morning by all accounts :)

BTW, I found an outfit which does car engine oil testing for £35. They need 50ml sample taken from freshly dropped hot oil. As soon as the weather improves I will be dropping the oil and sending them a small receptacle filled my car's juices :)

I am back guys, my vRS just gone over 20k miles and I am still as excited driving her as I was when I bought it! Developed its normal share of squeaks and rattles, air intake plastics failed, burned some oil for a while but it is sorted now and she still gets her daily dose of red line - fuel economy rather crap because of it but grin on the face rather wide. No misfires, and now seems to be pulling better than ever. Will be putting Eibachs on very shortly and managed to locate the Brembo HP2000 pads I want today, albeit with 4-5weeks waiting time - must be blooming good if the wait is so long! Now I need to save money for a nice set of 215/40R17 Federal RS-Rs to go on my lightweight track rims. At the moment gigaros are shod with P Zero Neros on the front and brand new Uniroyal Rainsport3 with SharkSkin tech on the back- Dave would approve no doubt!. I wanted to try them both and see which one suits me better so I will be swapping them around.

Plan is to use lightweight alloys with RS-Rs on them for dry and daily wheels on wet track days.

I want to know the true reasons for total disappearing! :p No, it's ok...

When you say air intake plastics failed was it by any chance similar to mine:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/314698-inlet-manifold-leak-a-new-one/?p=3779441 ?

Hi mate, OK, you got me, I am coming clean!

I spent 6 months building custom rally cross fabia (circa 600 ponies going to four wheels, 1.6s to 60 ) and then toured Euro Rally Cross circuits for a season, Now I am back as I missed Briskie too much. ;)

As for the intake my problem is much more prosaic. Your one was wau more serious. There is a black ribbed flexi tube between intake air filter box and air scoop. The connection between the flexi and the air scoop failed. Few zip ties and some duct tape later and it was fine waiting for me to have the cash for springs so both can be done during the same visit at Letchworth Progress Skoda. One thing which bothers me is the DSG oil change action. My box works just fine and I don't want them fiddling with it really...

Ok, makes sense then...! Well, I didn't notice anything strange after my box was done. Maybe asking them not to do it if you don't want them to? Or else you would have to service your car independently I guess.

I have e years free servicing so it will go to Skoda :). I cannot refuse it really. If I do and anything goes pop it will be an uphill struggle!

The only reason why I'm still getting my car serviced at a dealer.

It helps with any potential good will claims etc if something were to go bang outside of Warranty (which my car now is)

yellowstuff pads Jab... worked well for me at my last track session :)

  • Author

Ha, already ordered Brembo  HP2000 pads - will tell you in a month's time :)

Would you happen to have the Yellow Stuff part number or a link to a place with the best price?

I think they are cracked, the OEM pads, hence those dark burn marks, which appear in different places, sometimes just one line, sometimes more.Braking from high speeds is as crap as it always was. For normal road use more the satisfactory, useless for anything else!

My original ones cracked after last summers castle coomb....  part numbers on here ... a2ft.jpg
