Skoda Roomster heavy damage

Featured Replies

Ciao,

I had a terrible experience with my Skoda Roomster 1.4 Style (petrol) I bought in 2008.

It had a breakdown while I was driving home few weeks ago without giving me any danger signal. :@

It run 41900 km and is out of guarantee of about 4 months (I decided to pay for 2 more years of guarantee) and, the most important point, I had my car checked every year after more or less 8500 km and nobody

found out any problems!!!

The Skoda Service in Padua Italy asked me 2800 € to repair it, but I really don't know why I have to pay such a big amount for a car that is almost new.

They told me the stroke valves collapsed and they want me to repair the damage.

I paid every year to have my car serviced and now they asked me to pay again!!

1° check (program service) oil changed at km 12.791

check (program service) oil changed at km 23.465 so after 10.000 km and 1 year

check (program service) oil changed at km 31.933 so after 8.500 km and 1 year after the previous

The Skoda service told me they are not able to find out what happened: it seems to be the petrol (They told me I had to add the additive to avoid any breakdown??? In the instruction manual is the opposite) or the engine is defective (I have to pay for it?).

Nobody seems to be helpful and I am really scared about it, even if I pay for the fixing I won't be sure in my car anymore. I really don't know the real problem and if it happens in a motorway I won't be so lucky again. It is really dangerous ad the only reason Skoda Italy doesn't want to help me is because the car is out of the guarantee.

I am really astonished, I wrote to newspapers, lawyers and now you because I need an help and a good answer.

I was one of the loving and correct customer that Skoda has ever had, but now I am thinking about changing my car with another Company.

Hi there Laragi,

I would suggest you to make a copy of your service book via a scanner and then send the scanned images as an attachment to Skoda headquarters. Also notify Skoda Italy and your local dealer via Cc (Carbon copy) of your email. In your email you should explain them the facts and kindly ask them for a goodwill gesture.

Beyond this you can ask at an independent VAG service expert for a price and even on other VAG dealers (Volkswagen, Seat) too. Another option is to look for a whole engine at scrap yards, there must be a serious number of them since they are identical to Fabia's. 2.800euros is a vast money amount.

Hope you find out a solution as fast as possible and as cheap as possible.

Going by your brief description you must have the 1.4lt 16v (84bhp) BXW or CGGB engine code.........these engines are based on the earlier AUB (100bhp) engines fitted to my 2001 Fabia.

You talk about the dealer saying you needed to use an addative in the petrol........what is written on the inside of the petrol cap???........91Ron..or 95Ron...or 98Ron?????

I'm just wondering as if the AUB engine was used with 91Ron or 95Ron for a long time then it causes damage.......valves....piston rings..........

You also state you last had it serviced at 31,993..........and how long ago was that?????

You also state that the current milage is 41,900..........so 10,000km since last service!

Ciao, thank you all!! :)

I've just scanned the service book of my car and I'm going to send it by e-mail to the Skoda headquarters, I really hope they reply me asap.

Fabdavrav I had my car serviced every year, so they had to know if the car needed an additive (the car book says no additive at all).I really don't know how happened, to me there is a defect in the engine.I had the first inspection in 2009 (after 1 year and 12791 km), 2nd in 2010 after 23465 km, 3rd in 2011 after 31933 km..

By additive I mean octane booster if the petrol you get is low spec!

So what is the RON of the petrol that you use?????

Is it 98RON......or is it 95RON.........or is it 91RON?????????

I'm guessing it will be 95RON at best. 98RON is hard to find in Italy I think.

I'd be surprised if they sold a car in a country with limited availability of the fuel that the car needs to run properly though.

He talks about addatives........and it's well known that the 1.4 16v long term only likes 98ron...........and yes that applies to a lesser extend to his later engine

so the only way around it the use of octane booster.........

As for Skoda selling cars that are not fit for purpose when I got my car 98Ron was not available in Scotland anywhere.........I had to wait about 3yrs!!!.........

Yes standard fuel is 95 RON in Italy, if you want to use the 98RON fuel you have to pay more.

I don't know if some petrol stations use 91RON fuel, maybe the low cost companies, but I've never gone there.

Anyway the car is 41900 km "old", is it possible that this problem happened to my car?

I always ask for 95 RON petrol...:blush:

I always ask for 95 RON petrol...:blush:

They might use that as the reason for the engine damage......

What does it say on the inside of the fuel filler cap????
