As an Octavia II owner, do you "want" the new one?

Featured Replies

Nope would never buy another Skoda, customer service is ****.

Perhaps you just attract **** customer service? It can happen so just throwing the idea out there.

  • Very happy with mine. Mk 3 will have to be very special to tempt me into one when I change. Why do I say that? Because Skoda may be good value, but the dealership network is far from what it used t

  • Can't see there being a VRS Rapid and the Octavia 3 might just be a tad massive to be a Q car like the current VRS. However a 4x4 Octavia Scout might be the car of choice. Unless Merc do a 4 wheel dri

  • how can you attract it?? lmao. It breaks under warranty i ask them to fix it ... they say no how do I personally attract it??

What are the sizes of the Rapid, Octy 3 and Superb?

Does anyone else think the new grill looks a tad Korean?

To be honest, this may be the first and last Skoda I own, for no other reason than i'm just not compelled to any of the others. The MK2 Octavia VRS for me has been a standout car in their range, the Yeti being just a bit too quirky for me.

Personally the current Scout is plenty big enough for me, The Mk 3 Scout will need to be something special to tempt me into a bigger car. When we are all trying to save fuel why make cars bigger ??

The Rapid would need a huge facelift to tempt me into it, It just looks as though it was built to a price & a pretty low one at that, its styling is falling as the Koreans are getting better, may be difficult times ahead for Skoda but I guess they will discount as required to shift them

When I got my scout 1.8Tsi 2 years ago, the intention was to keep it long term, as I did with the prvious car, a Seat Leon MK1 1.9TDi 130SE, which I sold after 7 years of faultless performance and 142K miles (it's stil going strong in the hands of a colleague at work).

However, my left knee is getting worse and stop / start traffic really hammers it with the extra clutch work needed, so I think I'll have to change it a lot sooner than I had planned for something with an auto box.

I do like the Octavia a lot, espcially in estate form so may well stick with Skoda as a replacement. It'll be good to start seeing some MKIII Octavias in the flesh next year as I am sure it'll be a contender as a replacement for the Scout. I wonder what engines will be available too, as the 150Bhp 2L TDi in the new Seat Leon seems to be (on paper) a very good engine performance wise. Time will tell.

Ive never had a good dealing with a customer service team as far as cars are concerned. I think theyre all as bad as eachother.

I remember when the airbag cover for my focus steering wheel cracked open. I logged it with ford customer services and the conversation went along the lines of:

Ford - sorry sir, the cover itself is a trim item and is only covered by a 12 month warranty so you arent covered

me - Oh, can i have the item number for the trim item then and I will order it and pay myself

Ford - Sorry no, you cant order the trim item seperately, you have to order the full airbag system for £800

me - Hmm thats odd, if its part of the airbag system then surely its covered by the 3 year warranty then?

Ford - No sir, its a trim item and isnt covered by the airbag 3 year warranty

Me - This went on for about 10 minutes to which the woman was getting a bit annoyed

Ford - Sir when the the fault occur

Me - About 8 weeks ago

Ford - Oh well, becauuse it has taken 8 weeks for you to notify us then this this classes as neglect and it is not covered by warranty

I hang up.

Getting back to the original question (and having a very good dealer 5 minutes walk down the road)........

No, I don't "want" one, not entirely sure what could really be done to better the Pre-FL that I've got. Takes all I need to carry, takes 4 passengers when it needs to, does it without grumbling, does it relatively cheaply.

The Rapid reminds me of a Proton from the front. Not good. Next car is likely to be a Guilietta.

Had similar.

Rear bush failed causing tyre to wear dangerously on the inner edge. Ford fully admitted the tyre was screwed by the bush, happily replaced the bush under warranty but told me where to go with regards to the tyre.

WTF?

I wish they'd make a 4x4 vrs estate diesel, I'm holding off going to look at 4x4 superbs and trading in my pathfinder until I see what's coming out next year. It's probably a good job the mrs didn't like the superb ( too big apparently) as I'd have probably stolen it even more than I do her vrs octy I love the superb very tempted and this octy might be the right balance.

Maybe they don't like you?

Just dont get hopes up for a VRS for at least 6 months+ after the mk3 launches.

No

My next car will be a Porsche Boxter S in 2 or 3 years time

Agreed, it'll be a good while

Won't stop people asking as soon as the Mk3 launches though, and then weekly questions about it thereafter! :D

Unless I'd get a corking deal then I'm happy with what I've got.

Porsche cayman now that would be tempting lol

Ah seduced by the tall hip wiggling lady in the ad then were we!:notme:

What will it do better than the current one?

I expect it'll be a bit smoother, a bit quieter, use a bit less fuel, be lighter, have a newer MDI system and fewer km's on the clock than the ones we're all driving.

All around I'm expecting incremental improvements in a lot of little areas. Not any big game changer.

...the lightness will probably mean more agile handling as has been highlighted for existing new cars on the MBQ platform and also better crash protection (remember the current car is a nine year old design!), better options (panoramic sunroof being is an important one for me), use of the latest range of head unit and sat nav units, better use of interior space, more boot space..... any three of those would make it a noticeably better car in my eyes! I think it will be a very nice ownership prospect but of course we'll have to wait and see. :)

Interesting discussion.

I have always prided myself on putting my car in the garage at night (amazing how many frosts you get in Geordieland to scrape away) also there are occasional not so law abiding visitors who steal things at night from cars.

I have 15ft 3 " to play with so great for Octavia 2 (15ft I think). I'm afraid Octavia 3 will most likely crash into my work units at far end so its a no from me. My first and last Skoda albeit I'm very pleased with it.

The new one is due to be launched on the 28th in LA, looks a stunner so should hit values of the existing model s/hand making them more affordable so start saving.

Like the Cayman a lot. The existing one is great IMO and drives fantastically well. Plus the spy shots of the upcoming one looks brilliant.

If I were in the position, I'd have a tough time choosing between it and the Boxster really. The added option of open-air motoring might be too great :)

I want to see one before I decide. Personally I can't figure out why they're making it bigger. I find my Octavia is more than big enough and I have never once wanted for a bigger car; if I did I'd buy a Superb!

I don't intend to sell mine for a couple of years yet but when I do I think I'll probably look at a second hand Superb. Perhaps a 3.2 V6 4x4...
