I hate paying more than I have to!

Featured Replies

Skoda minor service (oil and filter, pollen filter) - £129

Skoda major service (as above plus air filter and fuel filter)* - £249

So £120 for an air filter and a fuel filter.

I've priced up both additional items (genuine Skoda) for my 2007 2.0 PD170 as follows (retail, not trade):

Air filter - £19.00

Fuel filter - £25.00

Total - £44.00

My car is on variable. The oil used on both minor and major services is the same (Long life, low ash VW 507.00 for DPF equipped engines).

So essentially I am paying the dealer £76 to fit these two additional components - or essentially an hours labour.

Now, I asked for a quote for a minor service (£129) plus an air and fuel filter (£90) giving a total of £219, so a £30 saving over what is essentially a major service.

The problem I have now is that because I'm having a minor service plus extra's they won't reset my service indicator to variable - only fixed.

Awkward buggers!

By the way, I know the most cost effective solution here is to self-service but I had a new turbo fitted a year ago and would like an extra dealer stamp as I suspect this one is on it's way out too!

Happy days.

Get someone local to you with VCDS to reset it to Variable after the dealer has carried out the work and stamped the book. £10 beer voucher and you are still £20 better off

I've just been quoted £300 for much the same service!

Tell me about it mate, skoda wanted £370 for timing belt and water pump.... i bought the parts from number1forskoda on ebay and got my local VW Specialist a 5 min walk round the corner to fit the belt, water pump, G13 coolant and a good thorough inspection and grease of door hinges for £270, local dealer is 10 miles away and very inconvenient.

I understand regarding the dealer stamp but you pay for it in the long run with increased labour and parts costs so your "good will gesture" actually isn't "free" or subsidised you paid for it in the long run.

Everyone is different i suppose and thats fair enough

(p.s not looking for an argument over this lol)

well mine was down as a variable when I told the dealer I only do 5,000 a year.....

so for a 2nd service it was £229 told them its an anual service not variable......price ,,,,,£229 :wall:

rang round skoda garages got same service for £145

Actually I think I need to call these guys back and check the price. National pricing should apply and my £300 should be £249. Hmm!

Specialist Skoda in Dundee quoted me over £600 + the 4 year service.

T&P in Burrelton wanted £200 to supply (not fit) two front disks I then got from ECP for £70 inc delivery.

Quite pleased I got the three years servicing with the car ;)

Had a similar experience with our SEAT Altea. Main Seat stealer wanted £300 to change cam belt- 'special offer' as mine was over 4 years (must think I'm daft as how many cars under 4 years old have a cambelt change!). local independant changed it, rear brake pads and took it for it's MOT (inc MOT too) for under £300

Quite pleased I got the three years servicing with the car ;)

+1 didn't we do well.....

First variable due in March for mine and local (Netherlands) dealer when I asked for price showed me the fixed pricing leaflet and gave me it take with me €259 (£210) but that excludes the pollen filter which is an extra €45 (£36.50) if when inspected it needs changed, seems much the same as UK price overall. I bought on ebay from Cardiff Audi dealers a pollen filter from a kindly posted link on here recently so I have a brand new one in its VAG box delivered for under £8 here ready to throw their way since they are already meant to be removing old one might as well fire it in. When I move back to the UK my local dealer is near 100 miles each way!!!! That will be interesting.
