Should I get cruise?

Featured Replies

Had it on my Fab, used it all the time.

Don't have it on my S3, miss it a lot.

Will be retrofitting it as soon as funds allow.

In my case, I also want it as it will be an important part

of my forthcoming APR remap when further funds allow LOL.

  • Also very useful for average speed zones on motorways

  • Yeah I bought myself another Fabia vRS.. Infact need to post a thread about it, few mod's on it already

  • I find it invaluable. Good for speed limited zones as well as on the open motorway... Or even crowded motorways if you adapt your driving style - set to 65 and slowly gain on the trucks... Zip out to

I've had cruise control in my cars for the past 6 or 7 years or so, except for a period a year or so ago when I had a Corsa to commute to work.

It didn't have cruise control and I really missed it. In fact it was one of the factors which caused me to git rid of it and get the Fabia Elegance.

I'd strongly recommend you get it done as it's such a simple and inexpensive retrofit on most VAG cars.

Yes. That is all.

Had it on the Golf (only good thing about it!) and got it again now. Wouldn't be without it IMO for day-to-day driving.

There is a guide here: http://www.fabia-vrs.com/technical-info/cruise-control-retrofit/

You can buy the cruise control kit for about £65 from ebay.

I used the above guide to fit mine a couple of days ago. I did it in stages though; did the white wire through the bulkhead and soldering on one day and then the rest on another day to save rushing it. The above guide was really good.

The only annoying thing with cruise control on the Fabia is there is no warning light on the clocks to tell you it's on.

There's no light on the Octavia either. Obviously a VAG thing, as I'm sure my mates Golf has no CC light either.

Initially I thought it odd, but in fact it causes no issues when you get used to it.

Our 56 plate Octavia vRS petrol had a light for cruise (Factory fitted cruise) and so did my old mk4 Golf TDi 150 (retrofitted cruise).

I'll soon get used to not having the light though.

Well worth it, Techie did mine for £150.

I fitted my own a while back a d wouldn't be without it now.

Very handy.

You can get the stalks cheap enough.

My Golf had a light (2002 PD150). . . Factory fitted I assume

The Fabia I think doesn't have a light. My Cordy doesn't.

Cheap skates.

There is a CC light symbol on my Octavia. Just by the Selected Gear light indicator. It is a little speed dial symbol.

No light on my old Fabia and it was a factory fit system.

Guess that's how they made them cheaper than the polo. By cutting a few corners.

Weird. My 2006 L&K DSG with factory fitted cruise has no such light......Does yours have Maxidot?

No light on my Fabia's factory fit cruise.

Nope. No Maxi dot. Mine is only a month old must be a later feature.

Ahh....that probably explains it.

My 56 plate Octavia vRS had maxidot.

Maybe the dervs or non vRS don't get the light.

I've got it on my Mk2 Fabia and Mk2 Octavia

For keeping a constant speed it's great, but, from my experience, don't expect better fuel economy - mine generally starts dropping when I put it on cruise

If you have a nice flat and quiet road then cruise is good on economy. Also if you normally vary your speed a lot.

On busy roads or hilly roads you can get better economy without it by lifting off the throttle etc whereas the cruise would keep the gas on to maintain the set speed.

Nice to see my name pop up a few times :)

Haha. You were the first person I thought of to ask when I was having problems fitting my cruise control!

You're reputation proceeds you.

Tried to swing a bit of business your way :p

I use my CC daily and check my MPG at every fill up so am well qualified to answer the fuel consumption debate - If i'm looking to save fuel then i do not use CC and have the little screen thing set to live mpg so i can see how my throttle inputs are affecting efficiency.

The best i've seen on a run has been 53 mpg using CC, doing the same run using the throttle to chase mpg has seen 61mpg.

Another big thumbs up for cruise control

Had mine expertly fitted by Tech1e last week, and it really transforms long journeys. It's not always the most economical way to travel long distances as the constant automatic throttle adjustments can be thirstier than a steady right foot...
