Vcds cable arrived this morning, quick question about two cars setup

Featured Replies

My Shiny new Cable just arrived courtesy of Nigel: [email protected] for a very reasonable sum of £250

I must admit i was a bit wary of doing a bank transfer with someone who trades via invoice from an email address

and not a website. However i can now recommend him as it was entirely friendly professional and Order confirmation

was emailed within a few minutes of the transfer and the cable arrived promptly a couple of days later well packaged.

Anyway a quick question for anyone who is in similar position having two VAG cars.

Procedure so far:

Installed the software (Windows 7 x64bit version)

Installed USB Driver

Connected USB Cable (Driver installed Correctly)

Connected Cable to car via port. Light came on.

In the software main screen chose OPTIONS and checked that usb was selected then clicked TEST every thing

came back as OK then i clicked save exited the program and disconected the cable.

All the other options are now available in the main menu and not transparent.

Now i was going to go straight into AUTOSCAN and check for fault codes and save the log, However i think when i

did the cable test in the options menu at the top of the results im sure it said that it had detected the car as petrol and

saved the settings.

Now question is will i have to run the cable test again before i carry out any checks on my other VRS which is a diesel?

or is one test of the cable enough and thats it.

I think that's it. When you plug into another car and use auto detect in auto scan it sorts it all for you. When you first do the test with new software it is just validating the software with the cable. The only time you need to do it again is when you download a new version of the software.

Be aware that autoscan only works on CAN cars, and for vehicles like fabia 1, Octavia 1, Golf mk4, etc you need to select the car from the drop down list. :)

Once the cable is programmed in using the "options" "test" (highlighted USB) and "save" - then it will not need doing again until you either uninstall/reinstall, or VCDS downloads and installs an update.

Ok thanks, Im just paranoid about copying the settings from one VRS to the Other by accident. Seeing as they are seperated by fuel type a face lift & about 7 years i think this would probably be fatal.

I will give them both a scan tomorrow and post up the results. I might create a folder for the diesel logs and one for the Petrol logs etc. Just to keep them seperate.

No worries mate, glad could help you out.

As above, once click of options, test & save is enough.

Dont ever copy long coding/coding completely from another car as it may cause your car or another issues if the modules not the same, be very careful of this, now thats not to say it wont work, just be very savvy with adding features & copying others data :)

I would also suggest that you save a complete log from the Autoscan before making any changes - that way you always have the original coding of modules from before you make any changes.

I recognise that user name :)

Yeap I agree with paul

No need to re-test on another vehicle (I never have) as its just to confirm the software instal and validate the license (cable to software) as being genuine (or something line that).

No data about the car is stored in the cable and only a text file of info is stored on your laptop. All data is read live from the car it's connected to and changes are stored on the car (not the cable or laptop).

Hole I've explained that well...
