Direct Line Insurance - "OE winter wheels are a modification and will cost more"

It certainly seems that way. And still no reply from the ABI. Might chase them soon if I can find the time to draft a suitable email.

Direct line. In my experience peddlers of horse meat, and that's being generous. Had car, home contents, and buildings with them once. Thankfully the medication started to take a effect.

just to add my 2 pence worth:

phoned up Direct Line today (who Ive been with for many years) and recently got House Ins with them:

Yesterday spoke to a lady and enquired about Winter Tyres, and any cost associated with them, and also the fact I had non "OEM" tyre size on the car. (225/45/17) instead of the 205/50/17 the car comes with as standard:

She said there would be a charge for the non OEM tyre size as they were "modified" tyre sizes and there may be a charge for winter tyres as and when I fit them.... Things got a little confusing and I am not sure she fully understod my questions, So I phoned back today and spoke to a chap, who said that:

The non OEM tyres size I had on doesnt cost any more a there was nothing in the underwriter's guide about it, ( its just the wheels they are more bothered about if you change them) and they just put a note on the file that the tyres are different from OEM (incase of a claim and an eagle eyed assesor )

As for Winter tyres, he said just phone up when you put them on / off and they mark your file with a note so they know whats on at the time....and didn't seem too bothered about what size of tyre either, providing the car would pass an MOT and they are legal and roadworthy....

So, looking as the weather is going to be appauling for a while longer I think Im going to invest in some lovely winters..

Hope this post helps someone out... maybe....

This forum has been a great place for me in the past, hoping I can share my experiences / tips etc with you all...

I voted with my feet today :hi: Direct Line wanted an extra £70 for declaring rear tinted windows (which the previous owner had installed). My renewal came through this week and they had increased my excess from £250 to £600 :@.

Conclusion.. moved to Admiral who were £150 cheaper, with windows declare, £250 excess, protected no claims and hire car. I think DL have a few things to learn.

Of course I await the Admiral bashing now

lol! I'm quite happy with the quote I got this year, plus linking the House insurance made it alot cheaper ... quite a few no claims with them so Im happy ... looking at Winter Tyres now .... bring on the SNOW!

Of course I await the Admiral bashing now

Good luck if you have to claim. The cheaper quote has to be paid for some how. Admiral pay out rock bottom rates and are awkward about it.
