HID Aftermaket kit - Help for definitive how to

Anyone?

Just to reiterate that the bulbs and ballasts have NOTHING to do with the CANBUS network. They are advertised as that as a marketing ploy and to make people who don't know about them buy the correct ones for their car.

You can join any ballasts and bulbs together (colours or wattage) and you will be fine however you may get errors depending on the coding of the module. There are very few manufacturers who make bulbs designed for true 50 / 55w HID systems.

Sorry to sound a bit daft but am confused as to which coding should be used as there seems to be more than way of coding - still none the wiser - I have a 2008 Pre face lift VRS - what is the actual coding to tell the car it has Xenons without shutters fitted ?

After reading through this, as I have a pre fl non vRS with no drls, the only option I need to tick to code them in properly is Xenons without shutter?

All done and successful ! Unticked Cold lamp diagnostics for low beam headlights and ticked Xenon Headlights without shutter installed (Bi-Xenon) in VCDS  :D No dash bulb warnings since.

Just had the grille colour coded so now on to the next project......

I have a question regarding installation:

I just received my 5K slimballast (non canbus) london colour set and I'm confused by the 2 sets of wires on the bulbs? When I look at the installation guide/diagram it looks as set 1 needs to connect to the ballast and then connect the ballast to the original bulb connector. But is this the correct installation?

And finally I have the FL 2011 octavia, which coding do I need to do in VCDS? I've been trying to read all posts, but I'm a bit confused by all the suggestions and "it works for me" and then 2 post further down it doesn't work?!?

Is it just: byte 14, bit 4 (manually change bit 4 from off to on (from a 0 to 1 - 10000001 to 10010001) :notme:

All this hurts my head so many different reviews !

Set 2 connect to the red plug on the ballast and then connect to the vehicles wiring. Set 1 connect to the other plugs on the ballast. On a 2011 the coding you quote is correct.

If you are going to install the lot inside the lamp unit (recommended) then chop off the round rubber grommet that the wires pass through. It's only needed if you still a hole in the lamp unit.

All the information you need is in this thread. I would use 35W 4300 as they are close to OEM. Once coded correctly all the issues of bulb warnings go away. Don't use CANBUS loads as this could screw your controllers.

Use London Colour as they have metal bases on the bulbs and the quality is pretty good (again the links are in this thread).

It's the coding bit I can't do and the members map and people with the programming cables Map doesn't work [emoji21]

Working for me.

Anyone else not able to see it?

Might it be because I'm using a Mac ?

Works for me. I found Donovan using the map to code my HID's using VCDS.

BO60BYS - Faboka appears to be your local VCDS expert; according to the map he is in Liverpool.

That link takes me to a random topic ? Can it be programmed then the hids fitted or does it all have to be done together

That's odd!

When I click on the link it takes me directly to Faboka's profile page.

Re: the fitting of the lights. I have heard that you have to programme the HID's in first and then fit the bulbs; do not turn on your lights until after you have fitted the bulbs.

This is what I've read in a couple of places; it may be right or wrong!

Same for me (link that is).....very odd. My understanding is the same as yours that the coding is required first. I wasn't aware that the lights couldn't be used until the HID's are fitted though, probably me not reading properly!!!

Might it be because I'm using a Mac ?

Shouldn't be that's all I use now unless I'm mobile. (Even then it's still iOS / Safari)

Can someone tell me

My car is a 2005 octavia II 1.9 what do I have to do on vcds ?

Is it just untick the cold lamp thingy and tick xenons without shutters and that's it

Good news....I have reset the 09 central electronics back to how it came from the factory, with the HID kit in & get a bulb warning on the dash, so definitely no resistors in sight & not canbus friendly ballasts.

So to the testing:

Firstly, I have tried the Byte 17 bit 2 on it's own & this lost me the high beam, but kept my LED DRLs.

Secondly, I have tried the Byte 14 Bit 3 on it's own which has worked, but lost my LED DRLs.

Which leaves the Mysterious Byte 14 Bit 4 - so set this to 1 in the binary (on it's own) & all appears to be working fine, no bulb warnings - still have main beam, plus all other lights appear to be working - could this be a masked Xenon without shutters??

This is my actual screenshot from VCDS - as setup & working:

WorkingByte14Bit4_zps5fbecf8f.jpg

All on a 2012 VRS, with non-canbus HID kit from London Colour on ebay - incidentally the 4300 are very close to original.

Now just need some spare bulbs & some LEDs for the number plates :)

Thanks to vectra1 & powerx

Result.

I tried doing all these in my 2012 skoda yeti but still getting error. Am i missing anything. I help would be greatly appreciated. I am from india and using 35w ballast (non canbus)

Also i can't seem to find any option for "cold lamp diagnosics for dipped beam headlights", all option in byte 3 related to various comfort operation

Does the cold lamp diagnostics not apply to FL Octavia (2010 Elegance)?

Just coded Byte 14 Bit 4 successfully for xenons without shutters and no problems so far, but cannot for the life of me find cold lamp diagnostics on any of the bytes. What is the controller/byte/bit location for this, if others have unticked it for a FL Octavia please?

Hi has anybody done this with the latest vcds. V.14? As am struggling to find the right part where all the options are? If you have a step by step guide would be appreciated.

Xenons with separate high beam and byte 14 bit 4 on.

That's it for hid's

Sorry for being stupid but how do I get to this part
