Bought a new battery and it no fitty....

Featured Replies

Has anyone else bought a new battery for their Octavia from Euro Car Parts?

I had one delivered yesterday and there is no chance of getting it to fit.

I went for the largest amp hour battery listed by them for the car, the S5 110 85AH by bosch.

I've been back on their site and I see that it is about 3cm longer than the 096 battery which I know people have

fitted ok albeit snugly compared to the oem.

Just thought I'd post incase anyone else was thinking of ordering the 110 instead of the 096.

Mark.

Bummer. If ECP said it would suit the Octavia, then they will want to know that in fact it doesn't, and hopefully they will be keen to replace it for you.

Any way you can make it fit, get rid of the battery cover, or will it not fir in the bottom tray to bolt down

I've already dropped them an email to let them know. Won't hear back till monday now though.

It won't fit even with the cover totally removed as the battery can't lay flat due to the raised bits at the front of the tray which will prevent you being able to clamp it down.

The front corner of the battery rubs on the air intake pipe too which could lead to problems.

Doh. Hopefully the battery will last a few more days but it is getting a bit touch and go!

I had the same problem with a battery from carparts4less, who get their parts from ECP.They eventually collected it by arrangement with ECP and refunded me.

Have come across this several times with VAG cars and third party suppliers in general, they list correct battery output but are just to big for the space,

on a couple of occasions I had to go to the dealers.

Well, ECP said I could return it but they seemed to think I was going to pay the postage....

I was recounting the story to a mate when the said ECP had just opened a new place in town so I took it in there

and exchanged it for an 096 no problem.

Only a few weeks ago and the nearest ECP was 120 mile round trip so pretty lucky.

Beware folks, the 110 batteries listed on ECP for the octavia wont fit. The 096 and 100 batteries are the same size and fit fine

if a bit more snugly than the OEM batteries.

Bonus was tracking down an infuriating vibration from under the bonnet to the air intake just infront of the battery. Its been driving me mental for months.

You'll have difficulty finding a courrier who will deliver a battery (I tried many). ECP have their own delivery vans and should collect at their own cost.

If you paid by credit card you may be able to get a refund without return of the goods.

Thanks

I need a new battery and having read this I have checked back.

For my reg number the 110 doesn't show on ECP so maybe they have fixed the listing.

My reg no is still giving a choice of six 110 batteries along with the 096 and 100. Mine is a 2006 1.9tdi 4x4 though I think the battery tray is the same size on all octy II. ECP didn't seem to interested when I mailed them to say the 110 doesn't fit.

I noticed this as well, thankfully I checked on here first and verified with someone who had fitted the battery to make sure I chose the correct one. It's a while back but I'm sure I mentioned this to ECP who said they'd look into it, I think they have a representative here as well (or they did).

I wouldn't trust ECP's registration guide, ordered a set of spark plugs before xmas and they were wrong it was for the 1.8T engine, the returns are absolutely hideous took over a month for the money to be refunded, mean time i got the plugs from ebay.

When I got my Bosch 096, 70Ah, I checked the measurements off the ECP site and rang them when I saw it was 2cm longer, there was about 2.5cm to spare which isn't surprising given the proxy 61Ah battery which had been fitted from new, anyway they assured me they'd change it no problem if I did have an issue. All fitted fine :)

Kinda what i did, my new battery from halfords was about 2 cms longer than the original one in there, i just loostened off the battery blanket, re adjusted the plastic surround and it all went in no probs.

Im assuming the battery tray/covers etc will be the same from engine to engine... so chances are as long as it isnt too tall and fits on the battery tray you can get it to fit without to much hassle.

I had a look for a battery on ECP for the Polo a while ago. None of the ones listed are the same type as the OEM one in it.

I got the 096 I swapped the 110 for in no problemo. The 110 is about an inch longer than the 096 though. I think I would have had loads of problems had I tried to get ECP to send me a new battery and pick the old one up. To be honest the local branch had no problem sorting it for me.

Another thought....can you get 25% briskoda discount over the counter or is it only online.... :wonder:
